I disagree in that it should be the main feature. They already explored violence as a means to an end in the first film, violence without an end in the second; a third film with a violent core would be too much. I would prefer to see it as a chess match between Batman and Catwoman, each trying to outdo the other, add in some UST and BST and we're golden.

See, I love the Bayformer designs. They're alien robots, with heavy emphasis on the alien part. I like them because they're a nifty take on the classic look of the characters, even though (for the most part) it's obvious whom is whom compared to their G1 counterparts. Also, who would believe a giant-sized laser pistol as a Bayformer robot?

Odd. I thought that was Macross Frontier...
-
Unlikely, given the amount of money this franchise has sucked in. The studio will continue pumping them out until the franchise is too old and tired for anything else. See X-Men, Spider-Man...

I wouldn't mind seeing a Live Action update/remake of Visionaries. It didn't get nearly enough love during it's 80s run. (Yes, I can recite all the powerstaff spells by heart; why do you ask?)

The Nerf N-Strike Arsenal Thread

That video makes me want to do weird things with my bank account, then pay a surprise visit to my brother and his kids... -
Solaris was great because it was a throw-back to sci-fi's basic premise: using fantastic settings to examine the human condition. That also means it has no pew pew pew and little in the way of "zomg! Pretties!". Basically, watch this movie the way you would 2001 and you should enjoy it just fine.
-
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of The Fountain and/or Solaris.
-
Well, I can tell what market segment they're aiming for when they include a shot of the actress' ass in the trailer.
-
Annnnnnnd just like that, I swing right back into the "hey, cool!" catagory. This is something that I want to see play out
-
Upon more thought of this, I've swung back to the ambivilent camp. I think we can tell already that Watson will always be able to ring in first, leaving the squishy competetors always getting the sloppy seconds if it fails. That seems somewhat unfair.

Why be so pessimistic? It could just as easily be Multivac! Or HAL9000! Or WACO! Or AM! Or... waitasec, I think I took a wrong turn somewhere...

At first I was 'meh' about this. A computer on an information game? Gimmick! But then I watched the video and saw just how difficult it was to convey that information in natural English into a format that a computer can understand and work with. Now I'm more "hmmm" than "meh". This bears more investigation.

And that's not what happened in Tron. What happened is that Flynn created the code for Space Paranoids and the rest, but before he could take it to his superiors Ed Dillinger swooped in, stole it, and presented it as his own work. Thus he got the promotion and promptly fired Flynn, thus beginning his meteoric rise to Senior Exec.

That isn't the ginormous Devestator that we've seen some pics of, right?
-
Good flick overall, but I think it really would've benifitted from more exposition. What purpose did the Games serve? What was the state of the city? Where did al those programs come from? These could've been explored in the film and really help make it come alive.

In no way does this diminish the need for moar footage. Moar, I say! -

I believe that's from the establishing shot, just after the lander... well... landed. Before Armstrong and Aldrin exited the vehicle, if I interept the trailer correctly. You know what? We need another trailer to discuss this more -
And more Ashley. I also dream of a catfight between Ashley and Miranda, but hope does spring eternal...

The only thing ME3 doesn't need is a new "gather the squad" theme. It was fine in the first game, and worked surprisingly well (and against my expectations) in the second, but doing it a third time would be just a touch much. They already have enough characters and plotlines and romances and cheating and backstabbing to deal with as it is. Wrap them up, give us a good send-off with the existing cast, and save any new characters for another game.
-
Indeed. I'm an avowed movie-phobe and even I want to see this.
-
And you're not wrong on any of your points. My big beef was the lack of skilled progression. As I said, in ME1 I started off with the sniper scope bouncing around like a demented five-year-old on a trampoline, and by the end of it my character was rock-steady in aim. That's what I missed when I transitioned to ME2.
-
I felt the combat was a little too streamlined. One of the joys of the first game, or any RPG for that matter, is levelling up your character and mowing down tones of level 1 critters that gave you nightmares at the start. In ME1, I started off poorly with the sniper rifle but rationed my XP properly and by the end I could put a bead on any geth I desired at range in a windstorm. That sense of progression was missing from ME2, and I miss that.
