  1. So I've been away from Macross fandom for quite a few years now. I just wanted to know about this Arcadia company. Are they a whole new thing or did Yamato change it's or something?
  2. I've been out of the loop of Macross stuff for the last few years. But, I decided to watch DYRL a few days ago and that renewed my interest. After a quick google search i read rumours about a new macross series or movie in production and can't find much on it nor can I find a thread here. Is there any truth to this rumour and can I get pointed to the thread? Anyway it's good to be back.
  3. Roy and Hikaru both used the FAST pack mounted laser-y (or plasma-y) cannons in DYRL and Alto had the Tornado pack in the first Mac F movie. (which was a very cool new type of weapon. 360 degree coverage, oh yeah.) Doesn't the YF-19 have machine guns located at the waist in battroid mode? I don't think i remember ever seeing those used.
  4. I never really got into Oblivion, but I loved Fallout3. Is Skyrim coming out for PS3 today, too? If so, maybe after this weekend I'll buy it and play like mad until Dec 20. I'm going back to university full time in Jan, so I'll only have time for 1 game next year.
  5. 1/60 YF-21 (the first run that came in a giant box with the clear stand) It was the only toy I've ever pre-ordered. No surprise considering the YF-21/VF-22S is my favourite valkyrie design, the most innovative valk design, IMO.
  6. Oh well, it doesn't start until friday. Just make sure you get the client downloaded, it's around 20gb.
  7. I agree about doing the characters much better. Sheryl was always my favourite MacF character, but the movie did her even better. Though I do wish that they hadn't slashed Cathy's role to the extended cameo that she had in the movies.
  8. I'd bet there are fanfics that are much better written than RTSC.
  9. Glad to see my topic is still alive after all this time. I've really been on this Japanese 70's exploitation Katate movie kick. Stuff with Sonny Chiba and Etsuko Shihomi. Can anyone give me some suggestions within the genre? (think The Streetfighter)
  10. I quit WoW a year ago and haven't been interested in a new MMO until i found out about SWtOR. It seems close enough to WoW in gameplay, so it is familiar and new enough in setting and other features (companions, spaceships and interactive stories) to draw me in. Ever since I played DA: O i wanted a MMO with choice based quests rather than the WoW style of go here, do this, come back for reward quests. More RPG in MMORPG, yes please.
  11. Wow, over $300, wow. I like the toy, but $300 for one toy is way too much.
  12. A reboot with brand new footage would be much easier to get on TV or sell for alternate distribution than an anime from the 80's. Theres a lot of anime kids nowadays that would never watch a show from the 80's and only watch new stuff. But, do such would require Tommy to do some work. Making new designs for everything to get away from Macross seems to be way out of Tommy abilities as well as being in control over a production (blaming the boobs in RTSC on the Korean animators just makes it seem like he didn't know what they were doing) HG may not be able (or willing) to do a reboot, but is it possible that some competant company may be able to purchase the trademarks to Macross, Robotch and the merchandising and distribution rights to Macross? That's pretty much my best hope for a proper relationship between RT America and Macross Japan.
  13. Overall, I really liked this movie. It provided a brand new story so it kept me surprised rather than just predicting what would happen based on the show. I really appreciated the lack of reused footage from the show (was there any reused footage?). I really hate anime movies that are primarily comprised of reused footage from the show but use a different story (RahXephon movie). Thanks, i did't want to waste any bandwidth after i already downloaded the Popgo raw.
  14. Yeah but the difference is that the Highlander franchise failed while doing something, actually producing some new stuff(crap it may be) Robotech just failed while doing next to nothing. (i don't count comics or fanfic, i mean, novels)
  15. I would very much support that if HG gave up their stranglehold on the Macross trademark. But since no one would willingly give HG any money to fund such a production, that'll never happen.
  16. I've pretty much resigned to the fact that Highlander will mever be good ever again. I don't think there has ever been a franchise so badly handled. I loved the first one, I screamed at the 2nd, i was generally indifferent about the 3rd, i vomited at the 4th, and i didn't even know the source movie existed until i stumbled across a video online of the villian drilling himself into the ground. Add to the fact that I loath the entire idea of remakes. If a movie was good enough to invest money into a remake, why not just rerelease the original? For some good video reviews of the mess that is Highlander check out The Spoony Experiment
  17. Considering you started with calling this thread "mindless hate"... Really everyone knows fanfoys like to complain and whine about stupid things. However, Macross fans are one such group that actually has legitamate complaints. Considering that HG is claiming they own a product they had no part in creating, has threatened people with legal action form selling Macross items over here, and have shown a general disregard and disrespect towards the original creators of Macross. Not to mention the vocal part of the RT fanbase is volitile, ignorant, holier-than-thou types. You say you like Macross7 and MacrossF, well doesn't it bother you a bit that they will never be released in NA because HG will demand a huge cut of the profits and force the distributers to put their name on a product they had no involvmemnt in? Yeah, my dislike and loathing of RT is definately not "mindless."
  18. Macross Zero seems to me like a 6 episode OVA where they forgot to make part 5. Watch it, it has a terribly awkward transition between ep4 and ep5. Not to say that there aren't more flaws than that in it, but that is the most glaring to me.
  19. The thing that makes me wince the most about sentinals is the Karrbarrans...You get it??? Kar Bar...its a bear alien and kinda sound like Care Bear. You know that thing that was popular in the '80s, it's topical! First rule about trying to make a timeless story, don't reference something everyone will forget in a few years. I have been gone from this site for a while, but does anyone remember when one of the RT fanboi brigade proposed the theory that Transformers 2 was rushed because jerry and micheal were afraid of the compitition from RTLAM. Well i guess thats why they had enough time to produce and release a 3rd Transformer movie. Maybe by the time Transformer 12 comes out, they will have a first draft of the RTLAM script.
  20. As for Macross7, you really have to switch your mindset to watch it and not compare it to the other series. It is much sillier and more monster-of-the-week style than the other macross series. I have the strange opinion that it is a parody of mecha anime and macross in particular. But, there is a lot to like about it. Some of the battle scenes are awesome and Max and Millia are great to see, especially when they fly their custome VF-22. And Gamlin is one of my favourite Macross characters. Back on topic. I really doubt there will be any Macross production for the 30th. That's next year and there hasn't been any news about it. I kinda remember when Frontier was in development, and i'm pretty sure we got confirmation at least a year in advance.
  21. I have to put myself in the proper mindset when i watch MacII. Heres how it works: You know how DYRL fits into Macross canon? I'd like to think that MacII is also a fictional sci-fi movie within the Macross universe. Otherwise i wouldn't be able to stand the bad script, boring characters and make-no-sence plot points. I'm probably gonna get some flak for this, but i liked MacZero more. I also found the romance to be very badly pigeon holed into the story. I didn't realize it was supposed to be a romantic triangle until Ishtar said to Sylvie, "You made a great rival." what? where did that come from? what indication did we have that Ishtar had a thing for Hibiki? On that note, the romance between Hibiki and Sylvie seemed rushed with little to no build up. I don't think MacII was all bad, I guess it had potential. The mecha designed were nice and the idea of using music as a weapon was interesting. With a better script and a episode or two more, it could've been much better. Oh and cut out that terribly cliched cyborg villian. And i like the dub for MacPlus.
  22. Got my max and millia vf-22s in the mail from hlj holiday sale a few days ago. The landing gears are a floppy mess and the wing joints are very loose. I have a first run yf-21 and the wings and landing gears are tight and unmoving when you set them. I guess i need to get some flightpose stands and just hope that the wings don't start drooping any more.
  23. The single longest OVA of all time, i love LoGH. There is much more depth to the story than in the average space opera. I really like the questions it raise about bad republics vs good dictatorships. Plus, Reinhard seems to be an amalgam of Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great (at least i though so). the only thing i didn't like about the show is the blond kid (Julien, i think his name was) I found him kinda annoying.
  24. So, last night i saw Legend of the Fist: the Return of Chen Zhen Donnie Yen's newest movie. It was really good. Directed by Andrew Lau, the same guy who made Infernal Affairs (the basis for The Departed) so the cinematography is really nice. Donnie Yen choreographed and directed the action scenes and it seems to me with every movie he does his action scenes get better and better. This movie is a sequel to Fist of Fury, the Bruce Lee classic, and also Donnie's remake tv show of it made in the early 90's. Unfortunately the the movie seems to bear little resemblance to the original story. If i were to describe this movie it would be a period superhero movie (like the Phantom or the Shadow) mixed with chinese patriotism. Basically the story is Chen Zhen returns to China after fleeing to europe during WWI after the events in Fist of Fury. Chen is part of a freedom fighter organization opposing Japanese invasion. He eventually dons the iconic Kato outfit to become a masked hero. Now the story may sound kind of goofy, but it really is a good, fun movie. Lots of graphic violence and blood and great fight scenes. I like that Yen doesn't try to imitate Lee's character. That's probably why i liked Jet Li's remake Fist of Legend so much too. Li and Yen weren't trying to be Lee, they were making the character their own. Speaking of Bruce Lee, i recently found the full 36 min fight scenes in the pagoda from Game of Death. If you remember the original cut (hack job) of Game of Death only spliced in 11 min of Bruce's filmed fights. Looks like this footage is almost the complete final act of the film.
  25. So since Tatsunoko has the international rights to SDF Macross, about how much money does HG pay to them. Is it a percentage of the profits or just a licensing fee? Related to that, does anyone ever think Tatsunoko will ever end their business relationship with HG?
