Or cony dogs. Well - ok - they don't look like cony dogs, but I sure do miss those sometimes... Now...where's some more art of beautiful Macross girls? Pete

That is an extraordinarily good point. And of course HG cannot bar Kawamori from coming to America and talking about Macross and showing samples of his work on Macross and advertising Macross because Macross is not Robotech. Great point. And I imagine that up to this day, there are people who, in spite of the internet, still think like your friend did back then and have trouble getting an answer. They see Robotech, they "understand" the plot, and to them the notion that the three parts are NOT connected and could exist seperately and that indeed Macross is a totaly seperate entity that means something completely different to what they think it means is completely inconcievable. It might be because I am a relative noobie to all of this, but I have yet to be privy to witnessing "bad" Macross fans and one side of that "lot of offense on both sides" .... Yes. And what's more - please consider for a moment... think of any websites that you transact business on. Do you use a website for banking? (I do my banking via the internet). Do you buy things off the web? Now imagine please that you go to do your banking on the web and instead of the regular bank website you have this: "WE WELCOMING YOU TO BANK OURS. GIVE US MONEY YOU NOW DO!" Or let's not even stick with the internet...let's say you went to your favorite bookstore and there were signs everywhere that said "BUYING YOU SOME BOOKAS!" ... My point is - while EVERYONE sometimes makes a typo, makes a mistake or says something dumb - nobody in their right mind would make typos, caps-lock and the zanny company line that seems to be the norm over there the...well...company line Ah I dunno. I was gonna write more - but I have to go to the bathroom, and that's more important than writing about HG and Robotech. If I was writing about Macross 7 or something, then I'd fight the bladder, but as it is - one must have his priorities. Pete Bad to the Bone Macross Fan

I lost my Macross 7 (and everything else) to a system restore as well. It happens. But we're only on episode 2. So it's not like you have to download all 47 episodes right now. Just download 1 and 2 and join us! Worry about 3 on Friday Pete

Not to get ahead of myself but...this is one of the stereotypes I hope this thread will challenge. Like...what exactly is wrong with the "first 13 episodes" (or 8 or 10 or "the first few"). It's just a stereotype that doesn't hold up. Maybe part of the "problem" is that indeed, there are no deep, insightful big explanations for what's going on in the beginning - Bassara never really tells us why he's playing his music, even when baggered in episode 2, we get zero explanation about the Protodevilin - in fact..they aren't even NAMED as the Protodevilin until way past episode 10 - so we the audience don't know who these wierd cross dressing vampires are. Lord Geplerich mummbles something about a Yume (dream? did I use the right Japanese word here), Gigil seems more preoccupied with being a pawn, we do see that the Vampires seem to be running tests regarding spiritia level but OTHER than the plot thread of "will Fire Bomber become a successful band or not?" all of the other aspects of the show are shrouded in mystery. And this is bad...why? It's NOT true that all they play is Planet Dance. It's NOT true that all that happens is the enemy attacks and Bassara goes to sing. I really encourage people to jump in and WATCH THE SERIES with us because you'll see that the first 10 episodes have a lot of plot and a lot of variety packed into them. You might STILL hate them. But I highly doubt you can argue that the stereotype holds up. Soooo much happens over the course of the first ten episodes beyond just the singing to the enemy stuff - 1. We have the plot thread of whether Fire Bomber can make it as a band? 2. Their concerts start out really small - only a few fans in attendence 3. The constant work to get gigs and shortage of money comes up 4. The morotcycle gang theme/plot thread 5. The vacation resort plot thread 6. Gamlin and Mylene's courting/dating plot thread 7. Max and Millia's relationship 8. Mylene vs. Michael and the Gaurds plot thread 9. The myseterious nature of Project M slowly begins to be revealed 10. Dr. Chiba begins his study of the victims of the Protodevilin 11. Exodol has several thoughts which he keeps to himself and his analysis will lead him to conclude that the enemy ARE the Protodevilin There's plenty more in there - but it's heavy. It's not repetitive. It's fresh and exciting. 12. We see Bassara slowly and methodically working on his next song - My Soul for You. We hear how Submarine Streat's Drum beat was just something Veffidas came up with on a rainy day... How can people have such a stereotypical view of this anime? join us and watch with us:) Pete

Geez guys, just pretend the witch was Scottish or something.... Or maybe you can work your way back to normalcy; it could turn out that it's just a plastic dildo and if you remove it, everything is ok? Wait...that's not helping... I need to shut up now Pete

But there must be SOME reason to keep this thread open. I mean - for one thing, it's just way too fun to close for lack of topic. Even if we risk beating a dead horse every day almost - look how much exciting stuff has happened that was totally unexpected. I mean - just look how this thread archives the misadventures of banned RT users such as yourself, the introduction of Cpt. Donovan, my suggestions of the Robotech cast that I'm not allowed to re-post because I'll surely get temp-banned ... The point is - this thread is full of silly win So maybe it's good to keep it open. Maybe a Robotech fan will stumble in here in not too long and give us some good kicks? Maybe they'll write something new at RT.com soon that we'll all be eager to dissect? Keep the thread open I say - other wise somebody's just gonna start a new topic on one isolated matter when it happens - and where's the fun in that? Pete

The problem with this is that the only reason we hunt the witches is to learn the secret of their magic spells, but when we look under their skirts, there's no magic, just big fat dicks! Translation of my gross metaphor: We hunt for Robotech fans because we really want to finally learn the secret as to WHY people bother BEING Robotech fans, but every time we find a Robotech fan, they're usually Robotech fans only because a) they never saw the original Macross (yet) and they weren't aware that it was a seperate franchise b) They really like childhood memories and can't be assed to nitpick about it c) They want to know the size of the SDF-1 You get the point. We've got Robotech fans in our midst - but none of them are crazy enough to argue that this series is the second coming. On the other hand, the vast majority of us really do love Macross with a passion, and folks are pretty good about giving reasons. Personally, I find no point in hunting RT fans if we can't have any fun with them. On RT.com they hunt Macross Purists and ban them because apparently they think banning people is fun. I don't think it would be fun to hunt RT fans and ban them. I think it would be funner to engage in discussion - even heated argument - with them. But last one to show up and give it a try was Capt. Donovan who, I am said to note, never returned. And it was with his departure that this thread went from interesting to same ol' same ol'.... Well - we CAN also continue to be a kind of running editorial commentary on RT.com. That's kind of fun. Checking out what they write and then pointing at them and laughing like 3 year olds teasing some poor little kid. That's always fun. Pete

Well, since all the lemings are walking off a cliff... Gubaba is a little brown furry space alien animal that appears in the production Macross 7. But I don't know what a Wanzerfan is... More so - I have NO CLUE what a "VF-TF-1" is... if anything, now that I'm not a TF fan...the name is so terrible that, as you can see from my sig and from the fact that I sign my posts "Pete" - I do everything possible to escape that name... but I can't. It's stuck to me like a big fat scarlet A!! the horror!! waah! and Robotech still sucks. Pete

Oops. I didn't notice it was just one e... and there I was always having flashbacks to Beebop and Rocksteady whenever I saw this anime title... I know - I suck...I failed...sorry Pete

Re: Toys/Cost If I can summarize, some people have voiced the opinion that these are "just toys" and affordable ones at that, unlike say -Yamato - therefore making them desirable. I understand this point of view, but my feelings are very different. You see - I will put it first shortly, and then explain at length. The short version: Yamato Valkyrie are CHEAP. Revoltech transformable Valkyrie are EXPENSIVE. Huh? Here's my explanation: Given that the Yamatos are an excellent balance of durability, anime accuracy, detail, perfect transformation, have decals, come in ever nicer collectors' grade boxes - then for the price Yamatos are going for - they are worth every penny. Given that the Revoltech variable Valkyrie are clunky, chunky, totally not accurate to even the worst of the animation cells in SDFM TV let alone line art itself, given that they are not really perfect transformation anyways (I'm sure the fists need to be detached for TFing), and given that they are in no way MORE poseable than Yamato's stuff - and yet they are prices at effectively 50% of the price of a Yamato valkyrie. Yeah - that's right - 50%. 50% because you have to figure in shipping costs and compare please what the shipping cost on a single Yamato valkyrie is to a single Revoltech. It's nearly identical. You spend almost half of what you would spend on a non SS Yamato to get this ugly thing. That's what I define as expensive. I agree that this is a good idea for people living in Japan who can walk into a store and get these for fairly cheap - although 2 thousand odd Yen for this cack is IMO, pretty expensive anyways given that it doesn't live up to the standards that other Kaiyodo Revoltechs do live up to - but whatever. In the long run, if you amass a small collection of these things, you'll have spent about half the money that you would have spent amassing the equivalent in Yamatos. Is that really worth it? These are not pretty, they are not versatile in ANY of the three modes. They lack details, they are clumsy. They are a complete mess. They're not in scale with anything else. I dunno - to me - these are way to expensive at that price point. I mean - notice how most people who complain about Yamato prices always complain relative to their WALLET not to the quality of the product. In this case, sure, relative to your wallet, maybe this isn't the most expensive thing out there -but to me personally - money spent on this is money wasted. It's nice that they tried, but please go back to the drawing board. Pete

Well actually, not just Bobby. Barbra Streisand I can do without. Bet Midler...I only know the name... But ABBA and Cher? ABBA is cheesy, but it's just so classically fun - and I have fond memories of how ABBA cheered up my semi-ex-girlfriend once...the girl I'm still in love with? ...the girl who I still talk to everyday...I dunno...I have no idea what to call her... but we were down in the dumps and went to see that corny movie with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan where they sang ABBA songs to eachother and she was soooo cheered up that she went and bought an ABBA cd and kept singing and dancing and was happy. Thus, I am forced to love ABBA because anything that made her that happy has to be good in my book. As for Cher- I'M a big Cher fan. Not that I can remember any of her tunes real well mind you, but just in general she had the right musical touch. That said - my main gripe agains having them in Macross would be that they aren't Japanese. By this I mean - one of the things I really love about Macross is that it exposes me to Japanese rock and pop music. I don't need Macross with a Poison, or Meat Loaf or Bon Jovi sound track. I like those bands/performers - but I KNOW them already. Meanwhile, it's always fun to watch Macross and be exposed to performers I don't know and wouldn't know how to find. Pete

I love the high bar of critical thought set by the MW owners On that note: BANDAI WHERE'S MY 1:1 SCALE BLOW UP SHERYL SEX DOLL WITH SMOOTH JAZZ VERSION OF ALL HER SONGS FOR ALL THOSE LONELY NIGHTS!!??? Nuff said Pete

Well in all fairness to the Unicorn design team - note that the instructions EXPLICITLY show that you have to take the Gundam apart before transforming it. That is, the instructions recommend that you remove the head, legs, and arms and then seperate the waste and upper body. Then, the instructions ask you to transform each individual portion and put it all back together. Transforming Unicorn when the whole thing is together is indeed delicate business and usually doesn't work out too well. As for pieces coming off - yes, this happens sometimes. Heck, my new RX-78-2 v.2 likes to shed the "stomach" part that slides open to reveal the cockpit sometimes. But it doesn't really bother me because these aren't toys - you shouldn't go running outside with them to play. That said, they ARE PERFECT for making photo comics because they LOOK great and they are extremely poseable and well detailed. And in the confines of a safe environment - so what if something falls off? You just put it back on. As for Exia ignition mode - haven't built it yet, so I'll join you in whining when I do probably... but generally - don't vacume before making sure there's nothing important on the floor Anyways... for my part... I have decided NOT to build Guncannon. I'm going to hope against hope that we will get a version two, what with the new Gundam and the new Guntank, then for goodness sakes there must be a new and improved Guncannon on the way too, no? Pete

Yeah, what he said. I do of course agree with Maverick LSC about the future of television - but it's a pretty big leap from there to "Harmony Gold will be at the forefront" with Robotech... Actually - step back a second. THINK Maverick LSC. You yourself (correctly IMO) write: Good. But then you write: Bad. Why? No - it has nothing to do with my dislike of Robotech or Harmony Gold - that's beside the point. The point is, by your own admission of the future of entertainment, it will be impossible for there to be any forefront! That is to say - in a world where people can choose at liesure what to watch and when, and the corporations no longer fight for "prime time" scheduling slots and advertisers no longer pay more for those slots than others - the whole concept of forefront or prime time goes away. What you will have is entertainment that is more niche on every front and tailored to specific groups - and those groups will not be based in one country or one demographic or one region - they might as well be scattered across the globe. It would, in fact, be IMPOSSIBLE to plan a schedule for them "in prime time" or in any other EXCEPT THEIR liesure time. This is because if your fans are scattered across the globe, then all the more reason why capturing a "prime time" slot on television is totally USELESS. Half your potential viewers are going to be asleep anyways, the other half might be at work or school etc. In any event - THIS is precisely what the true benefit of making something available to watch on the internet is for companies themselves. It cost a lot of money to get a prime time slot and yet it appears that the benefits from prime time slots are small - and will become smaller as the internet broadens in temrs of being able to provide entertainment. Thus, it is wrong to say that HG or any other company for that matter will be "at the forefront." The forefront is going to be ABOLISHED along with the rest of the dinosaur media. We will have a multi-polar front. A front that reflects the natural diversity and variety of tastes already present in the market, which are compelled into regimentation as a matter of economic expedience - but it is becoming less and less economical to regiment them in this way, when you can just put everything on the internet. Pete

Now now Don't be like Gubaba from the Rivera episode of Macross 7, who runs in the opposite direction only to make Mylene pay more attention to him Although, that particular episode DOES show us that Gubaba has LEGS...which usually remain unseen throughout the series... Um... anyways... Behave please and continue being an upstanding example to all us folks Pete

Technically we watched episode 2 last Friday. We're trying for 1 episode a week, so Episode 3 will be in 5 days. I cheated and have watched up to episode 9. That is why God struck me down with bronchitus, phenonia, a 39 degree celcius flu, and lungs tht leak icky goo like a rusty faucet in a decrepit upper Manhattan neighborhood where the only reason they say it's not as bad as the Bronx is because it happens to be on the island, even though it IS as bad as...oh...I'm totally going off topic here... But - anyways - we're on episode 2. Gubaba has been kind and responsible enough to write the synopsis of that last Friday - which I, as thread starter, should have done, but I think I was passed out or in a haze of fever. Um... anyways...yeah - so just watch episodes 1 and 2 together and tell us what you think Then we can all get to 3 on Friday... As for Max... Yeah...Max was a surprise for me too when I originally watched it. And on that note - perhaps I'm breaking my own rules and being broad and general again...but beginnings lend themselves to such broad and general speculation so... I wonder how the entrenched notion that Kawamori leaves old characters and old stories in peace and quiet (which is why no Misa/Hikaru in future Macrosses) squares with the fact that not only does Max (and later Milia) appear in M7, but that the characters are quite well developed. They clearly are suffering from the crisis that befalls most marriages after a few years - and it's almost a bit like the post Rain of Death episodes of the original SDFM TV series, where we later see how the surviving Zentradi try to assimilate to Earth life. Well - in M7, we have a continuation of that theme - at least IF you regard Millia from the vantage point of her origins. Second generation post-Rain of Death Zentradi like Mylene (who actually is also half human) don't really fall into this category - like I presume Klan Klan in MF. These are Zentradi who are born long after the Zentradi human alliance is a fact and the two species have been coexisting long enough that new borns don't find there is any problem of assimilation to the "dominant" culture or anything like that. But in M7, Milia is still assimilating, I think. Or, at the very least, some latent remnants of her origins MUST surely remain and influence her thinking. She has also, I think, clearly found that she has no use for Max anymore. This is interesting here because...look .... What was so endearing about Milia in SDFM TV (besides her fine breasts and long legs?) - well - it was her innocence. Her complete ignorance of basic male/female relations, not just sexual, but the entire romantic spectrum. And Max WAS an exquisite gentleman - that was clear before he met Millia. But it was MOST CLEAR from how he dressed her up to meet Hikaru - he dressed her like a true lady - not like some bimbo, not like some sex toy - but like a true lady. And he also taught her manners and graceful behavior. It was clear that Max was a fine instructor in how Millia was to become a Lady. But then, by the time we meet the two again in M7, I get the feeling that Millia no longer feels she NEEDS Max. She is no longer under the spell of first love, nor does she look to him with the awe of a woman. Instead, she has reasserted herself and found that a strong woman DOES have a place in the "protoculture" way of life. She has found that her Zentrati rearing is not something that she must necessarily totally discard in favor of being a Lady. And this is interesting for me - because I get the feeling that Max, on the other hand, has become preoocupied with taking care of the entire Macross 7, rather than this one woman. In SDFM TV, when he was a pilot, his genius as a pilot made it seem like he didn't really have to exert a lot of effort in his flying or combat. This left him lots of energy for the only truly challenging confrontation - living and loving Millia (the coffee incident was just one good example of this - have you EVER seen Max get very angry and upset and fail to stop something bad happening in ANY other situation, particularly combat situation? No. But here - with this woman in a domestic situation - it wasn't so easy for him. So clearly his marriage got the brunt of his attention)... Now he is Captain of the ship. He wants to watch Mylene play in episode 1, but is called back to the bridge and is upset at himself for missing her concert - even though he admits that he can't really undestand contemporary music. But then again - in SDFM TV, Max wasn't exactly a big Minmey fan either, was he? Oh sure he cheered her on because it was the polite thing to do and he was gracious to her in person because he's a gentleman - but I never got the feeling that he was the musical type really. Well - anyways...watch! watch! and let us know ! and join us! Pete

I'm sure Wanzerfan knows that Unless I'm not getting something ... which is quite possible.... Pete

That picture is wonderful But it also gets me thinking that maybe the next Macross should be a compilation OVA with four 45 minute long "acts" - each taking up a seperate aspect of the Macross universe - so you'd have a more serious real robots type story, a super robots story, a panties story.... or some kind of combination...I dunno... I really don't want the "tensions" resolved - I like the various aspects to Macross and I like how they are all told in the realm of the same universe/continum. But wouldn't that immediately make the two Basara's fighting over the third Basara imposters, since they demonstrate their inferiority to the real Basara by fighting over him rather than focusing on their own singing - thereby proving that there's only one true Basara (the one they're fighting over). And then what you've really got is Gaycross. I feel like I missed something important in life, what with my not being here for Zero and seeing Zero so late in the game - but it would have been really interesting to see the discussions that went on here when Zero was fresh and new and MF was a pipe dream that most people could not imagine being around the corner... And thank you for acknowledging the panty fetish - but in all fairness, I will admit that PRIOR to watching Macross, I never had any panty fetishes, just like I never imagined myself potentially attracted to high school girls. Thank you, Japanese anime, for showing me these two important factors that were missing in my life! So - where are the panties? Pete
