  1. Naturally, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - particularly in terms of what is physically attractive and what isn't... but here's my (totally subjective) list of ugly Macross characters: -Exedol -Kakizake (could be argued to be ugly - look how Minmey reacts to him in SDFM TV when Hikaru takes him and Max to Nian Nian to show off how he's now a commanding officer) -MISA HAYES (Let me explain before you lynch me: I think Misa Hayes, particularly in SDFM TV, was portrayed as being an od fuddy duddy. Not hideously ugly, of course, but certainly not sexual. She was stiff, unlady like, her hair had an old fashion hair-do that basically seemed to be saying "why do I have to have hair anyways?" She hardly used make up, her face was always plane. I bet you she never tanned, and was pale and vapid like an airlock... So - yeah - Misa is "ugly" - at least in the begining. Also, check out the pics from Macross Ace - doesn't Misa look expressionless and therefore ugly? She looks like the Cameleon from Spiderman - again - all of this because she needst o look like this at the beginning for the story to work. - Vanessa Not exactly Hustler material. Not "ugly" - but - well - and NO, it has nothing to do with "the glasses" - she's just the kind of girl who doesn't take care of her self. Look at that hair. Where is it going? It looks like Gubaba is sitting on her head. And look how she dresses! It's totally mismatched every where. Kimy and the Swedish girl at least have good hair dos and dress well. Vanesa is the "bookworm" in a a fashion sense. - Honey Please don't tell me you think he wasn't ugly? - Vefidas Ugly - unless you think Miss Universe or Miss Atlas or Miss [insert Body building titel] is the pinacle of femininity. - Graham No, not our beloved webmaster. The Zendradi whale-empathizer-death-wish-seeker-hunter who stopped shaving, brushing his teeth and washing between his legs the minute his wife died. - Gamlin I personally never thought he had any sense of fashion. His hair looks like something out of a dated vampire movie, but yet he dresses like Mr. Rogers and chases 15 year old girls. Freaky - Edward American burgers...mumble mumble.... -Ranka I think she's beautiful - but from a different point of view she could also be: a) skinny/bony/crooked little girl legs, b) no developed breast - which could potentially qualify her as "ugly" -Ranka's Manager SUPER BIG NEWSA! I AM NOT A STUD! Pete
  2. Was there ever a DYRL 1A fastpack for Kakizake? I don't remember - and if there was, then it was even less prominent than the VE-1, which at least got an ass shot and a couple of lines for the pilot... From what I know - the VF-1D and the VF-1A Kakizake and Max TV colors are ONLY being sold as standalone. And good. Cheaper Valks are nice from time to time. Besides - this way there's no "how to display" dilema - you can have the VF-1s with SS parts displayed in their booby ducks, and the ones without will show the beauty of the Yammie without boobies. Pete
  3. I voted Ranka. Here are my categories: 1. Song must move my heart 2. Grace (as in the characteristic, not the person!) must move my heart 3. hot body must move my heart I would have voted Basara, but even in his assless chaps, he fails to qualify for point 3 Pete
  4. See! See! Look Wasn't it worth resurecting this thread? I just didn't want to spam the boards with that picture, and I thought it was cute, what with them holding hands and going for a walk in a sunny field Pete

  6. nugundamII - that collection is great! I have maybe 1/10th of it, so feel lucky Holytoledo:) I especially envy your Ideon - I soooo want one of those...one day....one day... Pete
  7. A black hole will do. Pete
  8. Again: an ugly girl in a pony tail who needs to shave her face and has small breasts does not count for a guy in the Macross universe oh wait... Ok - I forgot about him My bad Pete
  9. This poll is about the best GUY in Macross. So just leave that woman out of it. Pete
  10. No body is ok with breakage. I've had 3 Yamato Valkyrie come with a defect out of the box over the entire span of collecting them. Each time, I was not "ok" with it, and I would prefer it if this kind of thing didn't happen to me or other people. That said, I think the problem is over-exaggerated. If you only buy one Yamato fighter every once a blue moon, and you happen to get a broken one, I can see how that would convince you that it's not worth "risking" to get more. But - I have a relatively large collection of very well built, durable and beautiful Yamato pieces, so the risk I run is low relative to what I already have. I mean - am I going to suddenly stop collecting these things if, once every 7 or 8 Yamato fighters, I get a dud? No. I'm gonna be annoyed, peeved, and go find a non-dud and that's it. And I'm not anti-Bandai either. I have a ton of their products. I'm just anti-DX because I think it is a big let down for reasons already mentioned at numerous times. For those who fear the v.2 1/60 line - my advise is: DON'T! It's worth getting. Pete

Movie color not advertised as such vs. Movie color advertised as such? Pete
  12. So much lovely Robot goodness I'm finally getting Daimos - should be in my collection by March or so Anyways - this might be a bit retro, considering all the cool stuff coming still ... but I could really use a Getter Poseidon... Pete
  13. Mr Maarch, Has anyone every told you that you ought to have a medal or a plaque or something for all this info? Pete
  14. Hm... ok - I'll give it a try; but it's not math so forgive me if my argument has many holes in it... For me, personally, one thing that draws me to anime as a medium for story telling is the fact that animated forms allow for a greater range of interpreation in terms of how people, places and events LOOK and are seen than any other medium. Because everything is drawn, you then the anime artist (writer/director/people who draw/CG people etc etc) all basically get to create everything from scratch. Now - naturally, this form does not always work for all stories, but I think it works exceptionally well for stories where you have things like giant robots, robots the size of entire galaxies, lots of cute girls, aliens bouncing around with panties...you get the idea... Anyways - I think that by necessity, something that "live action movies" force onto a story, in terms of form, is excessive "realism" - to show that "oh look - this is how it would REALLY look like." But, for me, persnally - as wierd as this might sound - the world can and does look like an anime if you look at it through "anime-goggles" - and I like for the world to look like this more than say, if it didn't. So while I can be awe struck by "live action" renderings of lots of previously cartoon/anime films or comics or whatever, I'll still usually prefer the drawn to the "live action" version anyways. This opinion isn't set in stone and doesn't really have much concrete evidence backing it - it's just how I feel - which is why I'm not going to argue the point too sternly - since it would be like arguing that my preference for...I dunno...Cheesbergers as opposed to Hamburgers has some deeper grounding than the simple fact that the Hamburgers don't taste as good because they are missing the cheese...? Gosh - I don't think that was consise but I tried Pete
  15. This doesn't beat the Sith attack on the Church of Jedi in the UK... have to dig up the link, but it happened... Pete
  16. Ok, in the interest of equality, and since we have soooooooooooooooooo many "Sheryl vs Ranka" and "Minmey vs. Misa" threads, posts and whatnot - why don't we look at the various franchise series and DYRL? from a different angle: namely - the guys.
  17. I was wondering where to post this, and I guess since two out of four ain't bad then... Ps: saw the movie when it came out in New York. Complete garbage, but fun. Pete
  18. That's a great sales strategy Very impressive Walmart. Bow of Respect. Pete
  19. Good Gosh guys... Whenever I come into this topic, I feel like I've just entered the Cancer Ward or a Morgue! I have 5 beautiful version 2 VF-1s behind me as I write and all of them are doing fine, even shoulder hairline cracked Roy. No further breakages have developed, and all of them are angry that one of my 1Js got to play with Minmey and they didn't... Pete
  20. Alto had a different name and changed ti to Saotome in order to get ladies? Pete
  21. I wish that line had been used in the dub! It's sooo much better than "How dare you disobey my orders" precisely because of the allusions to the entire theme of DYRL? and the fact that it's laden with irony and Misa looks wonderfully sexy when she gets bad and tries to be a-sexually bossy Pete
  22. Thanks everyone for the kind words and lols. There's nothing more pleasing than to think that someone smiled because of something I wrote - so it really is nice of you guys to write your reactions like that. Very big forum group hug! As for me, I'm probably not going to have kids. My girlfriend already has a daughter and numerous other factors seem to indicate that the best I can do is have a dog... But - who knows...maybe a kid will pop out of the woodwork eventually when I least expect it. Although - I don't think I'll necessarily want to name them after a Macross character. Like I wrote - I'd rather re-name my girlfriend(s) than name kids. Kids are bald. They don't sing and they poop all the time. I just would hate it: "Minmey's crying! Minmey just shat her dipers! Minmey just spewed her baby food on the wall, Minmey barfed! Minmey burped! Minmey farted!" It would SO TOTALLY RUIN every good thing you associate with the name... Don't do it guys! Pete
  23. Ahhh...so that's where the "chauvinist" line supposedly comes from. The version of DYRL that I watched was subbed by Macrossworld's Hurin (who was elevated to God in my book when I saw the credits for that version as having him in it) and there wasn't any "chauvinist" - it was just "how dare he disobey my orders?!" On that note - I never got the feeling Hikaru was disobeying her because she was a woman - he was disobeying her ordes for the same reason he disobeyed in SDFM TV when Kakizake's Valkyrie was damaged and he ordered a retreat: because he felt that saving lives was his job and some REMF bridge officer without a clue wasn't going to prevent him from doing that. In other words - he would have disobeyed even if it was a man giving the order. Just to prove this point: notice that when he got caught in the VT with Minmey in DYRL, he wasn't all like "I'm a macho man! Yo go back to cooking! I'm not landing" - he apologized and obeyed - why? - because in general he IS obedient - especially when he's in the wrong. He just refuses to obey when he knows that the order is wrong. But also - remember that in SDFM TV in the later episodes when Misa left the Macross for Alaska Base, Hikaru flew escort and told her that her work had saved everyone's lives countless times. So - he didn't only love her as a woman. He also respected and acknowledged her competence as an officer. He just didn't like the idea of women being exposed to danger, which is very gentlemanly and chivalrous and great Pete
