  1. Well, I was wondering about making a "Best Anime of all Time" thread - but I see this exists. It's not the same, because I was thinking not of 25 (way too easy to throw in lots of great anime in that list), but just ONE. So - since this thread has been dead for five years, I'd like to re-animate it (ha ha, see that great pun...ow! stop throwing tomatos!)... but with a twist: Rather than talk about the best 25 anime of all time, let's talk about the best anime EVER. PERIOD. I don't blame this thread for asking for the best 25 - that was back in the days when you could plausibly argue that many different anime existed to contend for the title of "best." But now, we have Gurren Lagann - which is clearly the winner and deserves to be the Best Anime Ever. Macross in its' various incarnations is a close second. But nothing tops Gurren Lagann. What do you guys think? And why? Pete
  2. Yeah, but how are you supposed to get Ratchets into that neck? Besides - G1 Grimlock in the cartoon/comics didn't have a ratcheted neck but had...what we see here. I like it. The non-poseable fingers are a bit of a put off - but I guess if the alternative was to have him unable to hold his sword, then it's a trade-off I can live with. "Flopy sword holding Grimlock" would suck. This way he can be powerful and mean. Pete
  3. Robotech.com is enough of an April Fools joke in and of its' self. They don't really need to do anything more today than - be themselves. Pete
  4. The World has the Three Stooges. Macrossworld has...The April Fools ? Pete
  5. Well, I'll be able to laugh in one hour and one second. But by then I'll probably be snoozing. Gotta get up at 6:30 am and make trouble tomorrow Edit: Wake me when the "Yamato makes 1:1 Lyn Minmey Sex Doll!!" thread gets started. Pete
  6. Are you serious? I need to see this! Pete
  7. What does FLCL stand for? Flying Clowns Come Landing? Frank Lewis Clarence Lawrence? Fortres Love Concert Lubricant? Pete
  8. Oh cool Taks is in Australia. If he's Austrlian then it's alright. I'm also Australian Pete International Man of Mystery Who really is Australian by a certain twisted yet plausible logic
  9. Triple bomba! I think I'm gonna watch Gurren Lagann again. As I get older, it is fast becoming my favorite anime series of all time. Still need to finally watch Getter Robo though... and Combattler V and all that... so much stuff to watch! Pete
  10. This reminds me of the "humorous movie posters non-humor which was, ironically, humerous." It's funny because it's not funny Whatever. Taks got me. I actually believed it - mainly because it is March 31st. And it's only 9:25 PM where I'm at - no where close to midnight. Pete
  11. It's March 31st where I'm at. Pete
  12. I remember how pretty much the same "thing" pretty much happened to me when I got into Macross again as well. Not really knowing what was out there, I sampled a bit of this and a bit of that. Ended up getting a 1/72 YF-21, 1/60 Elintseeker (v1), Toynami "Masterpiece" VF-1S and a shadow alpha fighter as well as 'Scott' Bernard and then I got my first 1/48 some time later. I have to honestly say I was going off my Robotech nostalgia here; mainly Palladium Books nostalgia. At that point, I hadn't ever actually seen EITHER Robotech OR Macross. One BIG thing that swayed me towards Macross was Yamato's rendition of the valkyrie. I basically thought along these lines: Hm. So - if the Americans make these crappy cheap Jetfire imitations and call them 'Masterpieces' - then imagine what they did to the actual anime when translating it? If the Japanese companies make these beautiful, precise cool things - then perhaps it's because the anime merits it? Welcome and happy hunting. Oh - and prepare some tissues to cry when you get your first QC problem Valkyrie Pete
  13. Who would have thought that at the same time that the world is ending, Grimlock would get the Masterpiece treatment? Truly - the future is a bizzare unknown... Pete
  14. Have there been any more pics of the Ozma and Armor in the previous pages? Thanks, Pete
  15. great job As usual I'm in awe of people who customize anything. The last time I tried to customize something was my Beast Wars toys - I used kiddie paint on them and they were all sticky and gooey. I also tried to customize my Laser Rod Optimus Prime and accidentally used acid on him - burned a hold straight through the plastic ... scary. Good thing I didn't get any of that stuff on my skin. When I was little, I made a Custom Ark out of my bedroom shelves. I used a hammer and nails to keep it together and was well pleased with myself. It looked like a big box stacked on a little box. I suck. You customizers rule Pete
  16. All you have to do is go to your ...what was it called? DUI? No...that's the bad alcohol thing..oh...the...um...motor vehicles department? Whatever!!! Just go to the place where they give out drivers licenses and ask them to make an International Drivers License for you. Then you can drive all over the world with your International Drivers License. However - it's harder if you're a US citizen overseas with an expired US drivers license - because you can't get it renewed through the US embassy (since the Federal Government doesn't issue drivers licenses, only the states do) and you have to go back to America, renew your drivers licence and then get an international drivers license. It's possible that you can do this through snail mail with the help of your US Embassy - but I dunno. In any event - I didn't feel like nor have the money to move back to America for a month just to get a drivers license, so I decided to do it here. Pete
  17. If I had a country it would be illegal to make laws. Edit: And just to stay on topic: Yeah - I am really unhappy with myself for NOT doing my driving license when I still lived in the USA. But there was always something getting in the way... Whatever. Like every other hurdle life puts before you: ya just gotta jump over it or drive right through it Pete
  18. You mean those ring things? I thought they were meant to be like that? Or something else? Pete
  19. Roughly it's: Jingle Bells Sheryl Smells Grace Laid an Egg Ranka rocks and Sheryl sucks But not necessarily Alto's peg Hey! Do you remember love? When we looked into eachother's eyes And oh what a surprise? When did you realize? That I was your prize? Oh yeah Uh huh Come on Baby! Come to me! Sexy Moma! Let's make a family tree! Oh yeah! ... Sounds better in Japanese IMO. Pete
  20. Well...Since this thread has been bumped I'll update everyone on my driving courses I'm only about 6 hours short of finishing all of my driving lessons. This means I should be able to sign up for the tests by next week and hopefully take them after Easter. I have to take a theoretical exam and then a practical one. I'm confident that the practical one - where I drive around the city, park and do all that stuff will go flawlessly. I enjoy driving and I'm pretty good at it. The one part of the practical test I hate though is that they have this "driving course" where you have to drive backwards while turning left and not hit a bunch of cones. To quote that guy from the Wedding Singer: "They were cones!" I feel the same way. I feel fine and do just fine driving with people and cars all over the place. Heck, I've even gone in reverse through a dense parking (and in Europe everything is dense!) - but I can't stand those frickin' cones... And the theoretical test might be a problem too. I can only make 2 mistakes out of 18 questions. And they like to put "trick" questions in... although... whatever - keeping my fingers crossed. As for what car I'd like to buy - I'm pretty much settled on a Toyota RAV 4. I don't know yet whether I'll be able to afford one (even used) - but that's my goal. Barring that, we'll see what's on the used car market. After I have my license. Which hopefully - God willing (please!) - will be by May. Keep your fingers crossed guys. Then I too can be a full fledged member of this thread. Pete
  21. Very cool Pete
  22. The wierd thing is that I can totally see Yotsuba LETTING Grimlock do that..."can you carry me around in your jaw like a dead baby?" It just seems like something she would do Nice pic Pete

  24. Well - it's good to hear that someone thinks things aren't so bad. I'll admit that, having not lived in the USA since 2003, everything I know about the country comes from the media. I try to diversify my reading/viewing - usually going to fox and cnn for mainstream media, and relying on other niche sites for non-mainstream news, but I guess it is all NEWS coming through a filter in the final analysis. Add to that the fact that here in Poland...knock on wood...there really hasn't been a crisis. Yeah, unemployment is up from 8 to 10% - but we've been living with 8% unemployment for many years now (down from a peak of 18% in the mid 1990s) and this is the first time that instead of falling, it's gone up. There is absolutely no banking crisis in Poland (Gordon Brown is talking out of his poopo hole on this point). In fact - it's impossible for there to be any kind of banking criss in Poland, because NOBODY has any savings. 94% of credit holders (people in debt) make their monthly payments (up from 92% this time last year), and even if all the banks collapsed - the majority of people would not loose money - because they don't have any significant savings. This is largely because - up until very recently - Poland was still way below a level of per capita income that could actually sustain savings and capital accumulation. Yeah - there was a bit of a real estate bubble - but it lasted about - oh - six months - and it exploded pretty quickly because we don't have HUD or FDIC - so as soon as things got rough globably - all of the banks here decided to stop handing out credit TO ANYONE. There's been a credit freeze on for about six months now - but the only effect is that I can't buy triple my warehouse this year rather than, say, doubling it (which my sales will permit me to do), and my neighbor can't buy a fourth car, and his neighbor can't buy a fifth condo. In other words: the credit freeze is a good thing because we were all on the brink of over-extending ourselves. I have a credit line, a credit card and a loan that I'm paying off. I paid off my credit card in January and am now again in debt, but will have it paid off totally within about a month. Then the credit line gets paid off by summer. The loan is paid off over 7 years or something and it's pocket change per month so it won't kill me. Most people here are starting to make money, and the economy is growing - in fact- I think Poland has the only economy in Europe that is still growing despite the crisis. But this is likely because the government here - as well as businesses - all reacted in a very simple manner to the crisis: they cut spending, stopped giving out credit and started saving. It was painful last year - but - I'm being a bit adventurous here - I think it's over. I honestly think that the crisis (globally) is over. It will only continue in America - and the dollar will go bust. China will no longer take American dollars and send them back to the USA for pieces of paper saying "IOU" and with the flood of dollars on the horizon, things don't look pretty. I might be wrong - we'll see.... I'll be curious to read this thread three or four months from now and wonder whether I'll be swallowing my words or relishing in the fact that my feelings on this matter were accurate Pete
  25. Awwwwww.... that's sweet I love both my Yotsubas - and it's true - she gets little love in the world of photography and fan gushing Pete
