Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
sketchley replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
Indeed. In addition, Kawamori-san was quoted as saying that there will be more atmospheric combat in the movie(s). So, the more aerodynamic look and feel of these new super packs is in line with that. I've picked up the magazine, and intend to do a translation of the relevant section. Just looking at it, there's an interesting comment from Kawamori, and there are things like the name of the large beam cannons written on the beam cannons themselves - something barely visible on the pictures shown so far. -
I think it's simply that some of the other members automatically associate not liking as synonymous with dislike. Which is hardly the case. Case in point: there are many Macross series' that I do not like as a whole, but I do not dislike nor hate any of them. And I like certain aspects of each one.

I just saw one of those new commercials on TV - and not at a time that no one watches on an unpopular station. One of the most popular stations, during the middle of the day, and during one of (if not "the") most popular shows across the whole country! Now, if onyl Macross F had that kind of promotion... ah well, trickle down advertising is good.

Nah. Just commercials. Considering the content, the music, and the age of the model, it's clear that their aiming for a mature audience.

Re: NT article tagline: There are suspicions of a spy surfacing in the song princess (either people are thinking that she's a spy, or she herself is thinking that there is a spy). Interesting... adds a new dimension to the dual Sheryl (black - evil alter-ego, white innocent) and the face-half-covered and surrounded by gears and machinery Sheryl that appears in the preview. Hmmm... I sense a refocusing and a heavy revamping of the Sheryl/little queen storyline... and was that a new Galaxy Fleet ship or a new Vajra ship starting to poke out from behind the asteriod? (Just before the first appearance of the Macross 1/4's new guns?) -
Voted fighter, but it has to be justified: all modes are great. I was initially attracted to Macross precisely because they had a realistic looking fighter aircraft that changed into other modes, yet still retained features of the main mode. I think what hooked me is the realism inherent in the VF-1. Fast forward a few years, and I'm still fascinated that the creators are throwing things in like vapor cones when passing through the sound barrier and the condenscing of atmospheric moisture when transforming into gerwalk or battroid from fighter mode. It's this level of realism that makes Macross more than the average animation or live-action series, to me.

You are most likely: a) older, wiser and more experienced (the same old shlock doesn't wind your clock anymore (re: Transformers live action movie). I'm in the same boat) b) more mature (the juvenile, coming of age, breast fetish, et al aspects of the latest series belong to a phase that you've already grown out of) c) stressed/troubled/insert appropriate word here about your life, and yearn for the simpler days of childhood. Therefore: welcome to adulthood! Nevertheless, I dig aspects of 7, 0 and F. But I don't like them in their entirety. I think the last Macross series that I liked all aspects of was Plus. But I overwatched it, and don't like it anymore. So yeah, time to make your own Macross series? (I'd plug the Macross RPG site that I play at and the transforming fighter craft manga that I'm penning, but as this is your thread...)

As well as the movie discussion thread (applicable post with lineart): http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=794460 and corrected (but still incomplete) translation: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...mp;#entry794556 If I understand Kresphy correctly, the source is the 2009.11 issue of Newtype (not released at the time of typing this).

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1
sketchley replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
Hmmm... in a way, the SDF-1 would make a lot of sense. It'd be in-line with the tail end of the first book (Prometheus, et al) and could also segway into an expansion of the VF-1 in space (or viceversa). Though, as that's been covered (perhaps not in great depth, but still in great breadth) in the first book, I doubt that'll be happening. For example, Pg 124 has a squadron marking for the "Planet Eden New Edwards Base" VF-1... -
Heh... if you want Destroid action, Macross style, check out Macross Plus Game Edition. In the player vs player mode, you and your opponent can go at it in any of the SDF:M destroids. Though, it's a bit disconcerning seeing the HWR-00-MkII Monster hovering and making building high leaps. Ah well... at least you get to pilot it. The reverse spinning leap kicks of the Regults are also pretty funky, too.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1

Probably the VF-25... T.T Though, I am hoping that they'd do something on the VF-11, and it'd have a little bit on the variable vehicles in the era leading up to it's development. -

My fixes in bold. It should be obviois that the image is too small and the text is illegible in many places... *The image doesn't identify them as such. But that's the name been consistantly applied to them in other materials. -
Hmmm... you've said something that got me thinking... different classes of ARMD. 1st: SDFM ARMD 2nd: DYRL ARMD (going by other canon sources, the movie is supposedly filmed in the 2030s, using ships/vehicles/equipment that exists at that time in the main chronology. Couple that with the DYRL ARMD stylized arms of the SDFN class) nth: M+ ARMD (if that's what they prove to be. I'm not just referring to the one on the desk, but the one's outside the windows floating in space) nth+1: M7 ARMD: Guantanamo class Hmm...

Which makes a lot of sense. I've noticed 2 other typos on the past few pages I've translated. Which makes things that much harder for us translators. >.<
-
I'm getting the impression that it may work in some or many cases, but not all. For example: the muddling of the DYRL designed ARMDs in the SDFN that appears in Macross F. (Of course, I'm saying this before translating the glossary entry for the SDFN and before we've even seen a page devoted to the SDFN; if such a page is forthcoming...) Anyhow, this'll make Graham happy: VF-171 Nightmare Plus: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...g35423#msg35423 Still a work in progress, but I just translated one hell of a loaded paragraph. In short: in addition to the previously known VF-171 and RV-171, there's also a VB-171, a sniping VF-171, an electronic warfare VF-171*, and an unmanned fighter commanding VF-171 :!: *I translated the term as considered, but the term could also be translated as "thought of". Another translating question has come up, that my internet-fu isn't solving. This is re: glossary sheet 01's RC-4E Rabbit: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...g35343#msg35343 I've translated the term as "Dimiddo Bunny", but I don't think that's the best rendering. In Japanese it's ディミッド・バニー. I'm guessing it could be a typo, and was meant to be ティミッド (Timid), but does anyone know of a rabbit or bunny with a name similar to Dimiddo?

And has he? Is he planning to? What's your point other than further dilluting this topic into a pissing game? If you're going to demand thanks for time spent translating Macross related text from Japanese into English, you have to demand it be said to ALL who are doing it. Lastly, I have http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=793765 and am planning to continue to do so, as soon as the publication's canonicity is clarified (thanks Gubaba and Azrael) and the other translation projects on my plate are cleaned up. -

You do realize that pointing out the obvious in a condescending manner while failing to answer the fundamental question destroys your intellectual credibility, right? Gubaba and Azrael have done a lot more in clarifying the question. In summary: because it's based (wholesale copied?) on a 1984 Doujinshi that wasn't considered canon and despite having Kawamori-san's approval, it shouldn't be taken as canon at face value. -
I think the change was deliberate. Macross Chronicle lists an SV-52 on the SV-51 sheet (as in the successor design, like the VF-4 to the VF-1), and one of the Great Mechanics.DX articles has a line coming out of the SV-51 leading to a question mark in a VF design flow chart. It's entirely probably that the SV-51 design continued and was eventually brought back into UN VFs by General Galaxy in the VF-25, possibly others, too.

And there has been some upgrades during the years. http://www.geocities.com/snipersoldier3000...04_maverick.htm has an image created by Miyatake Mazutaka for one of the Macross games. (Forgot which one, and I'm not 100% that Maverick is the correct name for it.)

Finished VB-6: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2344.0 It held out some juicy tidbits of information right up to the end! Work proceeding on glossary: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2349.0 (I'm scratching my head over why the Guantánamo class is listed as the ARMD 362... and the stuff on the movie version of the ARMD doesn't really clarify things. Are they simply remodeled ARMD specifically made for the Macross? Or are they a class of ships produced to act independantly OR attached to SDFN class ships? Do they, or do they not include fold equipment? (I recall translating somewhere that the DYRL ARMD have the capability of having fold equipment installed, but don't.) Moving on to the VF-171... and hopefully the VT-1C.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1
sketchley replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
I do. The reason why I'm asking is that a) it contradicts information contained within itself and b) it contradicts information published concurrently in a different publication. Therefore, the question isn't "has it been retconned", but "why is it not consistant with other publications published at the same time?" -
Grumble, grumble, been there done that, grumble, grumble There could also be one other factor at play: the intrinsic differences in words in English and Japanese. In this case, it could be perfectly correct in Japanese, if each word specifically means the parts indicated, whereas it doesn't exactly work in English because the meanings are more broad and less precise.
