  1. And has he? Is he planning to? What's your point other than further dilluting this topic into a pissing game? If you're going to demand thanks for time spent translating Macross related text from Japanese into English, you have to demand it be said to ALL who are doing it. Lastly, I have http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=793765 and am planning to continue to do so, as soon as the publication's canonicity is clarified (thanks Gubaba and Azrael) and the other translation projects on my plate are cleaned up.
  2. 彼だけですか?そうか・・・マクロス・クロニクルや色んな翻訳してるけど俺とグババなどのありがとうは・・・?
  3. You do realize that pointing out the obvious in a condescending manner while failing to answer the fundamental question destroys your intellectual credibility, right? Gubaba and Azrael have done a lot more in clarifying the question. In summary: because it's based (wholesale copied?) on a 1984 Doujinshi that wasn't considered canon and despite having Kawamori-san's approval, it shouldn't be taken as canon at face value.
  4. I think the change was deliberate. Macross Chronicle lists an SV-52 on the SV-51 sheet (as in the successor design, like the VF-4 to the VF-1), and one of the Great Mechanics.DX articles has a line coming out of the SV-51 leading to a question mark in a VF design flow chart. It's entirely probably that the SV-51 design continued and was eventually brought back into UN VFs by General Galaxy in the VF-25, possibly others, too.
  5. And there has been some upgrades during the years. http://www.geocities.com/snipersoldier3000...04_maverick.htm has an image created by Miyatake Mazutaka for one of the Macross games. (Forgot which one, and I'm not 100% that Maverick is the correct name for it.)
  6. Finished VB-6: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2344.0 It held out some juicy tidbits of information right up to the end! Work proceeding on glossary: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2349.0 (I'm scratching my head over why the Guantánamo class is listed as the ARMD 362... and the stuff on the movie version of the ARMD doesn't really clarify things. Are they simply remodeled ARMD specifically made for the Macross? Or are they a class of ships produced to act independantly OR attached to SDFN class ships? Do they, or do they not include fold equipment? (I recall translating somewhere that the DYRL ARMD have the capability of having fold equipment installed, but don't.) Moving on to the VF-171... and hopefully the VT-1C.
  7. I do. The reason why I'm asking is that a) it contradicts information contained within itself and b) it contradicts information published concurrently in a different publication. Therefore, the question isn't "has it been retconned", but "why is it not consistant with other publications published at the same time?"
  8. Grumble, grumble, been there done that, grumble, grumble There could also be one other factor at play: the intrinsic differences in words in English and Japanese. In this case, it could be perfectly correct in Japanese, if each word specifically means the parts indicated, whereas it doesn't exactly work in English because the meanings are more broad and less precise.
  9. MAT book?? Full name please and thank you. On here? http://macross.anime.net/production/print/first/index.html
  10. Does anyone know exactly how canon this publication is? I'm noticing a lot of little details that are "significantly different" from other published sources. For example: Pg 079-080: the VF-1 is indicated as having thermonuclear turbine engines that go from 0 to Mach 2.5, which change to thermonuclear ramjet engines that go from Mach 2.5 to 7.2, which change to thermonuclear scramjet engines that start at mach 7.2, and finally thermonuclear rocket engines for out-of-atmosphere use. - the larger speeds being in excess of the mach 3.87 at 30,000 m that the book itself states on pg 020! Pg 094-095: ARMD 01 to 14 were produced. Other sources state only 8+2 were produced. Pg 117: what I think reads as until the VF-4G, the VF-4 couldn't change to battroid or gerwalk!
  11. Psst: the Gjagravan-Va isn't a Destroid.
  12. Who said they're gone or completely unused? Invariably, the newer productions focus on new designs because it's one way to hook viewers into a new series, as well as a way to get sponsors, as those sponsors will be able to sell a bunch more books/toys/models/whatever. In universe, we have to keep in mind that what we are shown is only one facet of the armed forces in Macross. The destroids are primarily used by the UN Army. When was a Macross anime ever focused on that branch? Let alone the UN Navy or UN Marines? It's been primarily UN Spacy and UN Airforce - both of which primarily use Variable Vehicles. Destroids have shown up in the 2040s in Macross Plus, Macross Plus Game Edition, and Macross 7 (mostly converted into construction units, but present in the fleet none-the-less). They've also shown up in the 50s in VF-X2. The one consistant is that the designs haven't been changed nor improved upon. Therefore, it's easy to come to the conclusion that the Destroids are the pinnacle of ground walking mobile artillery units, and there's been no need to fix what isn't broken in the limited uses that they are applied to. The Destroid (aka Cheyenne II, but officially as Destroid) that appears in MF is specifically for anti-air purposes, and is also designed to move around the city - aka civil defense work; but in concert with the Beatrice (see: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2151.0 ) The "toning down" of it's uber destructive abilities is in line with the reasoning that Destroids, in general, are too destructive for close-in urban combat. Nevertheless, until we see a large land-invasion sequence in Macross, I doubt we'll see much more on the destroids. fallacy correction: HWR-00-MkII Monster is the Destroid. VB-6 König Monster is the Variable Vehicle. For more information on the variable vehicle, see: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2344.0
  13. From what I've read, there aren't any changes (or any major changes) to the yellow and red vajra, but I've heard that they're going to get some new abilities and/or new units that we haven't seen before.
  14. Just as long as you're not within the blast radius. I made the mistake once of flying into the radius... game over. The Hatchet class destroyer also fires off nukes with blast radiuses, too. More of them at the higher difficulty levels.
  15. Just looking at the pictures, it's fairly clear that Sheryl's been added to the scene. Perhaps her limo took a wrong turn and she ended up near where Aruto crashes after being shot down by the red vajra and they all get to watch Gilliam squished together.
  16. Who said anything about backlash? I'm guessing it's based on the lack of significant plot points (other than those related to character development). Also, careful about using made up Palladium terminology. I direct your attention to exhibit A: TIAS: MII for collaberative evidence on the proper nomenclature.
  17. Before it slips my mind... the sheets in #32 are: Macross 5 Fleet 14B (Zentraadi styled Stealth Frigate & Neo-Noputi Baganisu Bis) - complete with line-art of the Frigate's bridge for the win! Noputi Baganisu 5631 03C (DYRL) - starting from the end? Buritai / Exsedol 01a (DYRL) - both on one? Minmei 01B (DYRL) - costumes up to the orange pilot suit she's seen in while riding the VT-1. We can expect at least one more... (The other mechanic and character sheets are all A sheets.) Timeline is up to the intro of Emerald Force. Is it just me, or are they going light speed through M7? History 9B Operation Stargazer (the rescue the citizens of the M5 fleet) Worldguide 23A (2 sheets) Space War 1 - shouldn't this be covered in the history sheets? Anyhow, some cool pictures, but no VEFR-1 (er, VF-1G). But the ARMD charging into battle with the SDF-1 is a nice touch.
  18. set your browser to display Japanese encoded text? PS: this thread is for Macross Chronicle translations only. Fanfics go in another forum.
  19. I've been planning to start translating the glossary pages for a while, but have been holding off since I've got too much on my translation plate. However, #32 had something that made me drop everything and charge right at the translation: confirmation of a line of text in the MF novels about a certain SDFM bridge operator  Top of page http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2349.0 (contains 01 to 08's entry names only). Page 08: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...g35350#msg35350 (scroll to very end - Kim Kabirof) I've been thinking that I'll attempt to try one glossary entry per day. We'll see if I'll be able to keep to that schedule...
  20. Careful. "Taking part in development" doesn't necessarily equal "test piloting". For all we knew, the (re)designers may have only asked her questions about what worked, and what needed to be improved upon.
  21. We are due for a B sheet (FAST packs et al), but I'm also hoping that it's the first of a handful of sheets for designs that appeared in non-animated parts of the series.
  22. The only weapons escalation was the development of the Ehvil series that were envisioned to basically have the firepower of a (Zentraadi) battleship in a Zentraadi. Anyhow, long story short: Zentraadi technology hasn't been advanced since the end of the Protoculture. Humanity acquired Zentraadi technology (first with the ASS-1, later directly from the Zentraadi who joined Earth at the end of SWI), renamed it OTEC, and have been created derivative technologies and advancing technologies ever since. Case in point: the super fold booster. The technology it has that allows it to bypass (or pass through) fold dislocations has been described in Japanese text as something the Protoculture never attained. Therefore, human technology is inherently more advanced then Zentraadi technology, and some aspects of it it are more advanced than protoculture technology. Also, Zentraadi who have come into contact with humans to varying degrees, have improved upon their technology. The stealth versions of the main mecha (VF-X), the Pheyos (VF-X and VF-X2) and the Variable Gluag (Macross M3) are prime examples.
  23. Not sure if I added these before or not. They're the second set of postcards received from the Macross Chronicle mail-in:
  24. Not quite Macross Chronicle per se, but I finished the VF-1 section in the Great Mechanics.DX 9 article: VF Evolutionary Theory: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...g33518#msg33518 There are some interesting things in it, especially the oblique references to other VFs and Zentraadi equipment. Perhaps most eye-opening, pretty much in all of the recent translations of recently published material on the VF-1 is the almost negative light the VF-1 is portrayed in: essentially it's "it was the first VF, and it had a bunch of flaws". Of course, it's a good justification for the plethora of variable craft designs seen relatively quickly thereafter in the timeline. Nevertheless, it's surprising. On MC translations: about 2/3 of the way through the VB-6. I kinda ran out of steam at the end of the long weekend last week and couldn't quite finish it...
