Actually, the U.S. Constitution Bill of Rights Amendment VII says: "In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law." Back when the Constitution was written, $20 was a lot more money. Kind of like $2000 would be today. So to ensure that cases dealing with that much money were fairly prosecuted, a jury was required. Of course $20 is nothing today, but the cost of trying to get the Amendment changed would be prohibitive for the issue involved. So if you want to keep a jury out of the picture, sue for $19.99.

Isn't that three catagories? Seriously, I think it's the Western mindset that things have to end with the hero riding off into the sunset with the girl, the bad guys conquered, evil destroyed, etc., that warps our perception of Anime endings. Culturally speaking, we Westerners like nice, neat, all loose ends tied up endings that leave no question as to what happened. "And they all lived happily ever after" ends many a fairy tale. When the story deviates from that, I know that I at least feel cheated somehow of a proper ending. Just my $.02 worth of psychobabble BS at the end of a work day.

Ready to throw things at me? I was hooked by none other than Robotech. Back in 1985, that was all the Macross loving us poor American kids could hope for. That brief exposure of Macross, twisted and perverted though it may have been, was enough. I later purchased (ready to throw something else?) "Macross in Clash of the Bionoids" thinking in my confusion that it was Robotech. Later, when Macross II came out, I began to realize the truth. Finally, by Macross Plus, I really began to seek out pure Macross goodness. Now, I own the original SDF Macross on DVD, which holds a higher place in my collection than the Robotech VHS tapes. Now if only I could convince my wife to sit through anything with subtitles instead of English dubbing, or they would do a proper English dub of Macross, I'd be set.

Hey! We have a Frank & Sons here in Maryland, although it is just a father and son operation in Glen Burnie and he sells toy trains and model kits.
