  1. guys thanks for the input.. i know that digital animation litterally blows away the old school animation. Hikuro. i can see where the engines are able to operate in space and use a different fuel but just because something is smaller doesnt always mean its better. That would be like me comparing the tomcat to the hornet. Granted the tomcat is bigger and faster with a greater range than the hornet but the hornet can carry more missiles but doesnt have the range of an F-14. I do however understand your point that with a smaller airframe and stronger better engines than the 0's the 1's have a greater range and can probably handle better than their older counterparts. Im gonna check out the info you guys gave me and see what the differences are. hmm kinda interested in seeing a thermonuclear engine myself..wonder if they use plutonium as the power source... Again thanks gentlemen for the info.
  2. not to change the general theme here but its a basics of supply and demand. If there isnt much of a demand for a product then naturally the makers are going to take their time with it. I remember when i first started watching anime and the first series i collect was bio-booster armor guyver "waits for the laughter to stop" and man i had to have everything from the series all the videos, toys, model kits ect.. then after a year or so of collecting and several hundreds of dollars later a friend of mine in high school told me about an older anime called macross. Well he brought it over and man i was amazed. So naturally i went for the macross stuff and completely forgot about the guyver stuff. Now that im older and getting back into the macross series theres more i want to know about it than i did when i was 16 or 17. AND its true that the press "ie cartoon network, boomerang ect" do look for younger crowds to market their products too. I have a 5 year old son that refuses to watch macross but loves to watch sd gundam and every weekend its daddy can you build this for me??? As for robotech im not really going to go there. have the series on dvd watched it and even thou some of the characters are the same it just doesnt have the same feeling as macross does. Its a shame that after 20 some odd years that hasegawa is starting to do a wonderful line-up of kits and even revell did some great ones for robotech but as in all good things i guess it will finally end and something newer will come out to replace the old but hey if the 70's can come back then why cant the 80's...thanks for reading and i hope this made some sence.
  3. Ive been watching Macross Zero "thanks to the guys on the board here that told me about it" and is it just me or does the VF-0 seem more manuverable than the VF-1? Maybe its just the way it was animated but looking back on DYRL it looks like the 0's transformed faster and had better handling capabilities. Please correct me if im wrong but thus far im really getting into the Zero story line.
  4. Just to let you guys know ive spoken to the PAO and VF-101 will be decomissioned in August 2005. They will still be doing their normal airshow schedual this year and may make an apperance next year if time/ training permit. After August the new RAG squadron will be VFA-106, as the east coast hornet training squadron
  5. ahhh.. ok i see what your talking about now..
  6. Yes, I know. The VF-0D appeared in episode 2, in both Shin's blue/white version and the standard gray/white version. Shin's was destroyed in episode 3. I'm referring to a 1/72 VF-0D from Hasegawa. OK, never mind then As for the D model hasegawa, it's just a matter of time before that baby comes out. Umm guys isnt the VF-0 twin seater a B not a D and if your looking for the kits i bought 4 of them today from hobby link japan
  7. christ..ive missed alot.. i do have DYRL on dvd now..hmm thanks for filling me in. can you explaine the macross zero to me. from what ive read on sites . its supposed to take place before the valks were even built.. is this true?
  8. i know what those surges were.. it was all the homeless people screwing around trying to ge the lights to come back on ...
  9. Ive seen Macross 1, 2 and Plus.. What am i missing to get caught up on this series? I had to stop collecting and watching anime before i was married but now im divorced and want to start back up my collection. I guess you can say im still a newbie when it comes to it. Its really bad when your ex-wife wouldnt even let you watch the guyver series. So can you guys fill me in and kind of give me an idea on where i might be able to find anything ive missed?
  10. just money down the drain.. having to repaint
  11. David.. thanks for correcting me on the 2 tomcats... i couldnt remember and just looked it up. Your right on the hornets..somebody doesnt want any colors on the tails.. not even black. The picture of the VFA-103 Hornet is the color scheme that was put on the plane before it left the factory from what the PAO tells me.. kind of sick looking if you ask me. I mean i dont mind a 3 tone TPS or even a 2 tone Tps but as for myself personally I like a little color on the plane. VFA-2 just wont look the same without the red, white and blue stripes. Just like 103 doesnt look right without black tails. I was thinking about the color rule but "correct me if im wrong" all of VFA-41F's have red fin caps on their planes. Im just wondering how the mant. crews are going to handle that spray-on radar reflective material on the leading edges when their on the carriers...
  12. err, I could be wrong.. but modex numbers are generally issued by airwing, not the navy overall... as in, at one point, there could've been multiple CAG tomcats out there with the modex number 100 or 200 (or 300, 400, etc) Well lets see VF-101 uses modex 100 and there CAG bird is modex 101 and showbirds are 163 B tomcat and 164 D tomcat. Their workhorse birds have modex numbers going up to 124 if im not mistaken. Im not saying that 101 uses all the 100 modex numbers. As for CAG birds they are always marked with the first series of modex numbers ie: 100,200 and so on. You are correct in the modex being done by the squadrons. I was making a general statement on the modex that 101 uses which are the 100 series. Nothing more nothing less. As for the Top Gun issue both F-14's were borrowed from VF-124. As a matter of fact one of the planes, cant remember if it was icemans or mavericks was done with an S-3 squadron marking. If you have a chance and can spend 60 bucks on a book, I suggest that you pick up Tomcat Alley: A Picture Roll Call. It shows pretty much everything you want to know about the different squadrons and even gives info on the planes from the Top Gun movie..
