  1. DVD's the world over are going down in sales. What the content producers need to realize is that the 20th century mechanisms for distribution are an anachronism. We had music and arts before we had the recording and publishing industries... and we'll have them after, if they fail to adapt. These big companies aren't needed to produce such things (things like private funding and sponsorship predominated historically) and they're increasingly not needed to distribute them (the Internet works quite nicely for this)... I would be happy to pay someone for a decent quality copy of Macross 7. I was happy to pay an HK bootlegger for relatively great picture quality, even if the subs were ok at best, decent most of the time, and horrendous at others. I would have much more gladly paid Bandai Visual, ADV, or even HG, but I'll stick with the Psycho Korps fansubs until Big West (and the rest of the collective industry) pulls their heads out.
  2. Think I got mine for 120 or so from HLJ preorder. Also got the 1/48 FAST/STRIKE pack set (currently on my Hikaru 1S). I have one out and stickered and the other lingering in its box. Always meant to get some Takatoys decals to put on 182 instead of the Yamato stickers on 181.
  3. I was expecting a mod on the Taraka MP1...
  4. How much does MP SS go for at Wal Mart? THey had several at Frank & Sons today ranging from 70 to 90. Takara Skywarp is 80-90 at the same Vendors. I buy frequently from these guys so would realistically be looking at 70 for Hasbro Starscrem and 75 or so for Skywarp... Also if someone could compare the QC and materials... I'm expecting the Hasbro to be cheaper and less (if any) die cast similar to the Prime/MP1... I definitely prefer the G1 colors (which I didn't get the Takara SS and I hate being a guinea pig for a first release) but Skywarp was my very first transformer back in the day....

    F*ckin BP8...

They should have made that damned part in die cast. As is, it's a potentially fatal flaw. Hopefully if/when we get a new 1/60 VF-1, it will use that same design but in metal... at the very least some metal o-rings on each side of each loop.
  6. I can't wait for the YF-21. Definitely my favorite Valk. Looks incredible! Hopefully they hide those screws on the shoulders with some covers or something... Can't wait to see the FP and gun pods. The thrust vectoring panels looks quite different from the 1/72 flatter and with no curve. More line art accurate, and probably more realistic, but I think I like the 1/72's better aesthetically... Everything else, there's no comparison (and the 1/72 FP remains one of my favorite Valks to this day). Is the eye gonna light up like in the commercial?
  7. Very nice progression, Ghostkiller. Looks great! Overall, I still prefer Dobber's scheme but it looks much more complicated (and thus time consuming and expensive). I definitely see Ghostkiller's as more likely for Yamato to give us and Dobber's to remain the customizer's choice.

    SV-51 CF!!!

Yeah not too fond of this. I like the Ivanov and have been meaning to get a v2 if/when that happens. The Nora scheme I didn't like at first, but it's grown on me. I would prefer the "Dobber" scheme to be my CF... How/when do the Ruskies decide what scheme they're going to use, anyway?
  9. But yeah, that's articulate, I think. :ph3ar:
  10. Are they articulated?
  11. Looks like I'll be a tie breaker in favor of Rock Band. Not interested in either of these really but I could see the potential of some fun with two other friends...
  12. Picked up a Cobra Legion pack. Wish this one didn't come with CC or Storm Shadow with the outlandish paint scheme.. Nice to get a new outfits (especially for CC), but this would have been best as a troop builder pack. Put these variant costume figs in variants of the original Cobra 5-pack...
  13. Hmm... the cardback for "Sgt Flash" makes me hope they have a greater attention to detail. He's listed as a sergeant but is ranked E-4? Iron Grenadier Destro will be mine, though. Hopefully we get some IG troops, most definitely, as well as the Sergeant Major character. They can keep that goofy Voltaire guy, though.
  14. I'll add Warhawk, Motorstorm, and Resistance to Mike's list.
  15. I like the movie 1701/A design the best myself with the TOS design a runner up. No complaints about Excelsior design, though. I agree, Ent D TNG is pretty homely. Sovereign is a good design, too. I do like the evolution you can see as they go towards the Sovereign and Intepids... NX01 "Akiraprise" definitely is an anachronism... amongst the rest of Enterprise's issues...
  16. I was smelling conspiracy, too. :adjusts tin foil hat:
  17. How can you tell the fixed versions from the old? I was looking at Frank & Sons yesterday at Beachhead, the Red Ninja, and Firefly...
  18. That plot actually sounds pretty goood. TOS and the war episodes of DS9 are the only Trek I can really stomach. Quinto looks surprisingly in character, too.
  19. The difference is between playing AI, even the best of which is predictable. THe most challenging single player games are either click on everything until you get it right types (Myst, etc) or those where the computer has inhumanly superior speed or multi-tasking, etc. From Command & Conquer and Warcraft to Unreal Tournament and Janes ATF Gold, were the first games where I got to see this. I could thrash them all on the hardest settings... but play against people and you can't predict what they're going to do. Sometimes they do dumb things... but they're far more cunning than the computer could ever hope to be. That's why I was playing BF: Vietnam long after BF2 first came out. The game was still entertaining. Now I'm still playing BF2 even though 2142 has been out awhile. My console gaming is all Warhawk at this point since the game has a great mix of different skills you need (mastering dogfighting in a Warhawk/Nemesis is entirely different from doing infantry which is different still from vehicle combat). Getting on a good team with good coordination on objectives (Capture the Flag: Offense versus Defense) and Zones is great. Effective small unit tactics also greatly help in Team Death Match, as well, which have the simpler objective of "kill the bad guys more than they kill you).
  20. Ah rah, Devil dogs.
  21. It wasn't for a lack of trying. They did some test cases with select units at Edson Range and the proportion of Unqs was much much higher. IIRC, the main problem was from 500, but there was also a much higher proportion of miss from 300. Just not enough barrel length and no way is the USMC ever dropping the 500 yard range. The M16A4 is the current iteration, mostly with the same acoutrements of the M4 (MWS and RIS). We were already seeing units with the M16A4 in Iraq in 2003 and it has now almost entirely superceded the older M16A2. That's because of your myopia as a Marine. It would be similar to asking where the Marine Armored Divisions are. Just not our thang. Mostly, though, the dedicated infantry division, mechanized of course, is a victim of Combined Arms. Even when we have complete 3rd Marine Division was effectively disbanded outside of the headquarters group and a few key units in the same period. US Army went from 55 down to 36 active combat brigades and the national guard went from 55 to 39 combat brigades. We're supposed to be to 43 active combat brigades by the end of 2007 IIRC and they were considering going to 48 for 2008, so that end has already been on the uptick...
  22. Picked me up a new BFG 8800GT OC for my new build (E6750, 4GB of DDR2 1066) Haven't really fired it up with any games yet, but will most likely for Crysis.
  23. Sounds like it's gotta be your TV
  24. It would have been better if Sylar, Nathan, and Peter had died in teh explosion at the end of season 1. Their stories would have ended on a high as their character arcs were completed.
  25. Yeah just watched Countdown yesterday from my new Animeigo set and I remembered Hikaru using them in his 1J from my Robotech set. Who could forget the DYRL Hikaru. Nice summary, though VA!
