  1. Yeah even KOTOR had Canderous, the Mandalorians, and guys like Carth. TotJ had the Republic Rocket Jumpers, which would be awesome to have in a game. There was also the Sith underlings in KOTOR who had no Force ability (and their TotJ analogue, the Massassi). The worst about Galaxies is that I kind of like the NGE. I always wanted the game to be just like Jedi Outcast/Academy... with the original class/skill structure and player-based economy. I hope that if/when SWG dies, they let the homebrew community at its code so we can bring some of that stuff back.
  2. I think most of the problem with the prequels lies with Lucas' direction rather than Hayden's acting. More than a little may have been due to the edits for time. Hopefully there's a chance to get extended editions later on. Specifically, I'm thinking the "love story" of AOTC. The Birth of the Rebellion scenes from ROTS should most definitely be reinserted at some point, hopefully for a Blu-ray release.
  3. That Baroness makes me wonder where Jynx is. I always thought the trouble bubble was kinda corny. Probably won't be getting that... I don't remember an irradiated Snake Eyes... what was up with that? The Lady Jaye looks great... much better than the current release.
  4. You don't know many people in the know, then? jk. At least wrt PQ, it's only in very difficult material/scenes that the average mortal is going to notice an increase from 20mbps to 30mbps. 20 to 40 it starts to be come more evident, especially on a larger 1080p set. Remember, HDDVD's total MUX maxed out at 30Mbps or thereabouts, whereas Blu-ray can do up to 40Mbps for video alone. 48Mbps for combined audio/video and 54Mbps total mux. The practical application of this saw Blu-ray with lossless audio on 67%, or 310 of it's 486 titles currently in release while HDDVD managed 23% or 93 of it's 406 currently released titles. Lossless audio doesn't mean much to some people, but to me it's just as integral a part of the high definition experience. Most Blu-rays use AVC more than anything. Right now it's 37.9% AVC, 33.8% Mpeg2, and 28.3% VC1. Unlike many people, I think MPEG2 is sufficient at Blu-ray bitrates and titles like Kingdom of Heaven, Crank, and Blackhawk Down show what that old codec is capable of. Which is GREAT Picture and sound! Great source for stats on both formats: http://www.blu-raystats.com/index.php http://www.hddvdstats.com/index.php
  5. The main title will always play on older format players. Course, I have a hard time understanding why anyone wouldn't just want a PS3. People too set in their ways, I suppose. I have the Serenity HDDVD. I'll buy another if it's an extended cut and hopefully has a PCM track. Going to be a long time before we see remasters optimized to Blu-ray's superior bitrates.
  6. It wasnt just, or even primarily, the Jedi thing that borked galaxies. The loss of the player based economy (and the reasons many people had multiple accounts to begin with). The NGE following so soon after the CU (and completely borking the just recently released expansion). The annihilation of entire classes that some players worked for. They were all well intentioned changes, for the most part, but an utter disregard for the existing subscriber base is what caused Galaxies to sputter. Even in that restricted setting that's hardly at all conducive to the centerpiece of the Star Wars experience: Jedi versus Sith.
  7. 3x would be a great exaggeration for anyone who followed the threads at AVS, with the commentary from the relevent insiders. The biggest additional expense of Blu-ray was the requirement for AACS for pressed titles. IIRC the rule of thumb was roughly $1.50'ish for a 30GB HDDVD and about $1.75-1.90 for a 50GB Blu-ray. We never did get pricing or yields on HDDVD combos...
  8. It would be better if KOTOR3 is not the MMO... but I would hope the MMO is based in the KOTOR (if not TotJ-KOTOR) time frame. Good reason for lots of lightsabers from people not bound to strict Orders, etc. ANYTHING but the time period anywhere in the original trilogy, especially the time between IV and V.
  9. Read good reviews of it at AVS. I have the Nyko and it works flawlessly with my Harmony 720. I usually power up the PS3 by putting either a game or movie in anyway and almost always eject the disk and hit power when I'm there picking it up. Hopefully Sony will allow mapping of the PS button one of these days.
  10. 20 minutes? Never heard of an install taking that long. My 360 OTOH is getting a nice layer of dust. The PS3 just feels so much more polished and integrates with the 7.1 setup flawlessly. The main thing is that I never fear the Red Circles of Doom like I do with the 360, which feels like Russian Roulette before asking for the coffin delivery.
  11. I saw all of the wave 3 sets at Frank & Sons but instead bought the new SW Evolution figs (Darth Nihilus and Darth Bane rock, as does Vader's Secret Apprentice and the Jango/Boba. A bit disapointed in the Qui-Gon, though). Almost couldn't resist getting the Fred removable helmet CG/scarred trooper... I really wish they made the chest articulation like Cobra Commander instead of where it is. I hate that ball joint as it ruins the sculpt of the fig IMO.
  12. Can't wait for Heat and Ben-Hur. I'll find the Dirty Harry set hard to resist... I already have Batman Begins and V for Vendetta on HDDVD so will not re buying those right away...
  13. Silver PS3 for Japan. http://kotaku.com/352633/new-satin-silver-ps3-for-japan-[update] I hope we get an 80,120, or 160GB silver here. I'd like backwards compatability, SACD, and all the USB ports for my main tv room. I could accept a 40GB for the bedroom but all my HT stuff is silver...
  14. Love my FP, so I would definitely recommend it.
  15. My 24" Dell does 1920 x 1200. I sit maybe 2-3 feet from it. My 60" SXRD does 1920 x 1080. I sit 8-10 feet from it.
  16. All depends on the size of your screen. By 60" or so, it should be noticible from a decent range (6-8 feet or so), but if you just came up on it, you woudln't be able to tell as much as if you did an A/B right there.
  17. Got Blade Destro today. I very much like it. The cape is a bit awkward on any pose other than arm down. MY real nitpick is the size of his head. If that's a "real" mask, it's either paper thin or Destro has a teeny tiny pin head. It should be a big bigger than other heads. I really wish they had done it as a clamshell so he could take it off like he did in the comic (at the end of the Snake Eyes trilogy was it? When the Baroness was all confused and distraught and what not). Ah well, I love the gold sheen and how it wasn't the dull plastic of the original release. I almost paid an outrageous sum for gold headed pimp daddy Destro.
  18. Assassin's Creed is really repetitive. It's graphics are great but the gameplay gets pretty old after the 1st few missions. It's a shame they couldn't have put the depth of Oblivion in there, for example. DMC4
  19. Looks like it has some potential, but most likely they'll screw it up.
  20. Hate those multi-packs. Snake Eyes versus the Red Ninjas could have been very cool if it was an ordinary Snake Eyes v3. As is, it's still pretty decent to build up some more red ninjas. I hate the 3 packs. I would have liked 2 regular CG's with a CG officer. The variant hooded Cobra Commander is neat but the nature of that set precludes army building, as does the Cobra trooper one (who in their right mind wouldn't have the smurfy blue CC yet, yet still want that set? That set SHOULD have been 2 regular Cobra troopers and a Cobra officer (maybe). They need to do some sets like they had for the old 3 3/4. Something like 4 CG's, red CC, red Baroness. All in one, army builder with the variants.
  21. Yes! Imagine the variants. Maybe sell them in two packs or something, too. I'd have to have 2 or 3 regular ones, at least one scout, and at least one missile launching regult.
  22. Also distorted helmets. Most figures with helmets tend to have "normal head sized" helmets. So when you have the removable helmet, they either need to go to pinheads or the RH figs have oversided heads/helmets compared the non-removable helmet figs. This is most common with clones/stormtroopers from the Star Wars line.
  23. As nifty as removable helmets are, I would prefer swapping anyways. Ball jointed heads make it easier.
  24. Argh. What's the release date on this thing again?
