  1. Yeah he used to do the patern making too. I worked there for a few years in the early 90's and got involved in renovation of some of the older tools, Acording to my boss who worked with my dad when he was there, the oldest tools and molds were the best due to the amount of time spent on them. The newer ones were always desingned with removable parts and sections, and a constant supply of these bits were in production. Its a shame that the Computerization of it all has lead to a decline in some of the "real" skills. Not that CAD and its various cousins are unskilled but the whole hands on thing is getting pushed away in many businesses, not just mold making etc.
  2. I voted maybe, just because I have of late slid away from Toys and more to models (mostly because of room) but provided it was a good sculpt and didnt fall over (like the old vf1 1/60s) and have shoulder probs etc, then I'd get one just because it is an iconic design. Fast packs must be included though.
  3. LOL if you didnt have a certain boat you'd have loads of room
  4. Yeah and I bet in Ye olde Dayes they didnt use any form of cad to replicate them, a lot of work would have been done by hand. My Father was a tool maker and the molds he used to make could sometimes take months to produce even with mills and lathes etc. A model kit is way more detailed than some of his work had to be.
  5. Oww you berry bad man you linky from othders site berry bery bad man !!
  6. Good to see them some of them are familiar others are new to me thanks.
  7. Yeah he often used CGI to realise his charaters before they made them in solids, also had CGI compliment the physical stuff as in T3 and Zathura
  8. That happens to me too Well when you have model planes in a cabinet and people still refer to them as toys your on a looseing streak already. When it comes to peoples opinions we are all judged by and Judge people its Human nature, so like it or lump it it is important because one persons opinion can and does affect how other people perceive you. It maybe my house but im not the only one who lives there.
  9. An obvious choice would be a yellowed one from eBay as they are normally cheap and prime for total paint customs. add it to the odds and ends fast pack bit we all accumilate and you have a great candidate. For the grey you could look at Halfords grey plastic primer as its quite light.
  10. x-aco blades and tools are the best. I use Revell liquid glue in the applicator thingie and Tamiya liquid poly cement in tubes. the Revel stuff is great water like and great for small stuff and tin layers etc. It is fittled with the hyperdemic like aplicator but is prone to drying up and you need to pull the tube out and soak it in some solvent or poke a very thin strand of wire down it to push out the blockage. The Tamiya stuff is great as a gap filler and a stronger glue for load bearing areas etc, it sands well too.

  13. For those who dont know An evil Jetfire is Jetfire who joined the Decepticons instead of the Autobots. In the episode Fire in the sky (IIRC) Jetfire was still undecided whom he should join as before the autobots found him frozen in the arctic he was a scientist and not a soldier. Starscream trys to trick him into joining the Decepticons and eventually he sees them for what they are and joins the Autobots. The evil Jetfire follows the What if he didnt idea. I think the 1/55s look great eaither white or light grey with primer grey Fastpacks and the purple replacing the red change the eye to a more Decepticon like colour if you like too. you can get the Decepticon Decal sets for Jetfire, Which are basically the Autobot set but in Purple with Teh correct Logos for the wings etc.
  14. The only thing that really bothers me is that IF it sucks, the uneducated guests in my house will just see Macross stuff and say oww you liked that crappy film. I have a hard enough time now getting them to realise its not Robotech ( notice I put Robotech and not RowBlowTech) but Macross. One guy actually thought the Japanese version was a rip off of the HG Frankenstein. Crosses figers and says "do a goood job... do a good job"
  15. Yeah if you can get it (I cant in the UK) Krylon is good. I seal with Future but its not strong. I have also used Clear Auto Gloss but this has to be shot from an Air brush or gun as its mix only paint shop stuff. Works well though as its meant for cars, although it can be a bit thick.
  16. OMG I was just reading the book the day before. I really wanted to be like that guy everything he did was great even if the story/films sucked. Prop making is one area I would sell my soul to work in. A tragic loss to the whole film industry.
  17. Thanks for that
  18. Basic cheap kits would be the best to start with. Cheap = basic/easy. Grab your self a tube of modeling glue and pair of nail scissors or something of that nature and a scaple knife. then you good to go at the basic level. Follow the instructions and you away. Getting better is just a matter of doing it again and again. If you can do lego you can follow the easier kit instructions.
  19. Yeah! Id love one of those. What is it 1/4 scale...
  20. The three most helpful books I can think of that you are most likely to get via eBay are the "Macross Perfect Memory" you often see these on the Bay for around £20, it is mostly sketches but has a pictorial guide of the series made from screenshots. 99.9% is in Japanese but thats not really why you want this book. The next one which pops up every now and then is the "Macross Design Works" there are three flavors of this book one by Miyatake Kazutaka who designed a lot of the Macross vehicles and also the interiors of the SDF etc. I got mine for £15 on the bay The next which came out about the same time was by Shoji Kawamori same colour binder (turquoise) this is all the mecha designs along with a few colourised prototypes and finished mecha and the all important cockpit sketches, a must. IIRC I paid £25 for mine The third one has only been out for a few years now and Im fairly sure you can still get it on Amazon Japan (thats where I got mine) it has all the stuff right up to the end of Macross Zero along with old Greats like CrusherJoe and some Gundam things and Patlabor that Shoji designed, it has a funky metalised cover, and is about £20 IIRC A lot of the art books do repeat the sketches so you will find that what ever you get will have some pictures that you 'll find in other books. The main thing to remember is the Hasegawa kits are the DYRL versions so the cockpits depicted in the design works books are the TV versions which are different, with a little bit of work you can make the DYRL one into a TV version though. Colours wise the Hasegawa colours are bang on, but watch the anime and decide for yourself. Unless you make it a pink interior nobody here will argue.
  21. Sounds good to me oh yeah. In 25 years time this could be like Macross, we could be getting all mushy over it.
  22. I got mine today Work of art as usual. A break sounds good to me... well for my wallet anyhow
  23. MMM. ME WANT DINOBOTS!! Seriously anything is better than nothing But we need more seakers for Starscream to interact with
