Gley Lancer returns, I hope Gaiares is next.

I’m not that familiar with the game, but that’s pretty cool that they would do a physical re-release. I wonder how hard this will be to get in the U.S.

As for Gaiares, that isn’t a very expensive game, so I don’t see as much of a need.

Thanks for the info SH9000. So my VT-1 DYRL Hikaru is too chunky for it. I guess those Big Macross burgers made him a bit chunky.

The only problem is my TV Hikaru is a HM and not a HMR, so i think Hikaru, IRRC, is glued to the seat. I got him stored away, but i am pretty sure, the original HM line did not have actual removable pilot figures.

I may use a pilot from my VE-1 for a few pics in the HMR Defender.

I think the problem you’re running into is the fact that the DYRL pilots are larger than the TV ones, so the VE-1 pilots may not work either. You are correct that the HM pilots are glued to the seat, but they can be removed if you carefully pry them to pop the glue loose.

With my limited understanding of photography: understanding lighting and composition gets you further than good equipment.

This is generally true. The lens also makes a much bigger difference than the latest and greatest camera. Agreed that @Saburo clearly knows what he’s doing, at least in photos; not sure if he knows the full extent of what he’s doing to our wallets!

    And army building!

I think this is probably the main reason for their current scarcity and price. The VF-1A mass production is in a similar situation.

If we’re talking about the missile Regult set, those were originally a limited edition, making them more rare.

I love the look of fighter mode, it’s just so different from pretty much any other VF, and looks more like a futuristic space plane than most others.

Agreed, fighter mode on the VF-4 is beautiful. That’s likely where mine will stay, since I’m not as much of a fan of it’s battroid mode.

Interesting to note that based on @sh9000‘s photo above, the VF-4 appears to be the longest HMR valk released so far.

There was some talk on one review about something being loose but I had no problems. The knee joints and the back leg fillers were super tight on my copy.

Does it feel like there may be a need to initially be careful so as not to break any joints? The VF-1 shoulders tended to be really tight and needed to be turned slowly until they loosened up a bit.

    Finally beat Front Mission 3

total time with Alisa's story 66:31

    going to do Emma's next

So is 60+ hours a fairly normal length of time for this game? Seems like a nice long game, especially with multiple paths to choose. I’m probably going to pick this one up — and add it to the ever growing backlog.

  7. I’m also surprised that Max is the next DX VF-1, but glad to see that they are sticking with TV for now and working to build Vermillion.

I agree with @Convectuoso that they should have already made this in HMR.

They have to do a DX Roy 1S at some point, and I can wait.

On the plus side, this is probably one of those rare releases where you're really not missing out on anything if you leave it in the box forever.

Agreed. It is pretty cool to look at. Personally I'd pass on buying, but I can't help but think that this is exactly the Super VF-1S set that I keep hoping Bandai will release in HMR. I still consider getting one of the original 1/55 sets (the Bandai reissue, not the Takatoku original).

I might be interested in the Castlevania one. Konami's being coy about what the other four games are (the four announced are Castlevania, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, and Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge). A lot of fans are speculating Rondo of Blood it Symphony of the Night, but those two were already just packaged this past fall as Castlevania Requiem. My guess is that the other four will be Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Castlevania: The Adventure, Castlevania Legends, and Castlevania: Bloodlines. I'd love to be wrong, though. I'll happily trade Simon's Quest and the Gameboy games for the GBA games, especially Aria of Sorrow.

I agree with your guess. I think there’s a chance Rondo and Symphony could be on there, since Requiem wasn’t released for the Switch. And given the Gameboy games, I think GBA could be a possibility. I guess it depends on how retro they want to go, and I suspect they’ll lean toward the older titles.

Since I have physical copies of most console Castlevanias and Contras, the arcade titles are more interesting to me, since there hasn’t really been a good way to play those legally.

That's like, the last 3 games in a row that people have bought, that I have mint copies of ready to sell.  Seriously, just PM me if there's a retro PS1/PS2/360/Xbox/SNES/Dreamcast/Saturn game you want---I guarantee my copy will be minty-er, and cheaper, than getting  it from ebay.  :)

Good to know. I'll have to keep that in mind.

to bring back my first front mission experience i got this game. came in the mail today^_^

Cool. Have you ever played the original Front Mission for Super Famicom? That's the only one of the series I've played, unless you count Gun Hazard.

  11.

Was fascinating to see how many English translations were included with that video. It’s like they know...

I noticed that, too. Whatever the motivation, it’s nice to see.

I'll look into that Satellaview  version. Never heard of that before.

I thought people liked Adventure of Link back when it was released. I know I did. The music is really good. I still listen to it on occasion.

I only remember sunsoft for NES Blaster Master and Batman. Two really good NES games with good music and gameplay. I have a Sophia the 3rd blueprint somewhere around here.

I also really liked Adventure of Link and still do. I think it's mostly people who didn't experience it at first and look back on it now as being so different from practically every other Zelda game. It's still a bit of an oddball in the series. It also has a few things that make it rather difficult in parts, which I think frustrates people.

Sunsoft also made Fester's Quest, which was (in my opinion) not a great game at all, but did have some amazing music.

Also a while back, someone here was interested in speakers for retro games.

Yeah, I think that was me. I was trying to figure out what I might use for speakers if I got a PVM, which didn't work out. With my tiny space, limited budget, and interest in retro things, I'm currently using an old pair of small Sony SRS-67 speakers I used to use with my Discman back in the day. They're not amazing, but they definitely sound better than the internal speakers on my consumer CRT. I also have a pair of the smaller SRS-57 which are more compact but don't sound as full.

  13. I’ll put it this way. When I got into Macross a few years ago, I bought one HMR (thanks in part to @jenius) then quickly realized I needed 3 for the various modes. Now, including the original Hi Metals, I have over 20. Their price and size make them so easy to collect, in my opinion.

Arcade classics so I probably won't need this. The one retro collection or games I want that no one seems to want to make is a Legend of Zelda 1 and 2 remaster. Like they did with that Mario All Stars game.

Zelda 1 and 2 remake would be great. The new Links Awakening remake gives me hope that it could happen, though I can’t see them doing it as a 2D 16-bit style at this point. There is the 16-bit BS Zelda Satellaview version of the first game, in case you weren’t aware. Zelda 2 was so polarizing that I don’t know if they’d be willing to revisit it.

And @Black Valkyrie — Journey to Silius is a cool game, if a little on the difficult side for me. Sunsoft really rocked the NES era with some solid games and killer soundtracks.
