  1. So basically, it's been stagnating since after it's initial popularity wore off in the 80's then. HG is truly the necrotizing fascitiis of robot anime, if not outright gangrene. That's something along my original thoughts on this: the material they devise sucks, and cannot match the quality of the original in any way. HG simply doesn't get what makes a good anime (or anything else for that matter), nor do they care. Considering that no one wants anything to do with RT after the mess they've made of it, that's essentially waiting for the rights to run out. The only thing "Shallow Chronicles" could attract is a bad case of dysentery.
  2. What'd ExoSquad ever do wrong to you?! rofl! "Shadow Chronicles" should be part of the bad dream Hikaru had when he was in his coma following the Daedalus attack on Earth that took out his fighter.
  3. Let's face it: HG is in trouble and has been for some time. RT has stagnated because they painted themselves into a licensing barrel with the whole HG/ Tatsunoko/Big West steaming mess. "New material" isn't really forthcoming because anything HG devises isn't going to match level of the original, and they've played out what they had to work with long ago. I personally think HG is playing a "waiting game", hoping desperately that if they can just keep a death grip on what they have long enough, everyone else will give up and they can finally do as they like. JMO, for what it's worth.
  4. Picard probably resigned when he saw the armada couldn't stop CBS from making Discovery.
  5. okay...looks like my model has been doing some moonlighting while I wasn't looking:
  6. I wonder if they'll reissue the Macross Storm Attacker w/ Daedalus and Prometheus?
  7. I chose a color I felt was best and told my doubts to go burn in a lake of sulfur...
  8. Hopefully I can get in on this and find a couple of hasegawas for detail parts and whatnot.
  9. Definitely to both!!! And of course, post this pic somewhere that HG can see:
  10. You and I both my friend. I think that year will be a Macross celebration for a great many fans (and a day of weeping and gnashing of teeth for Disharmony Gold).
  11. Well, for what it's worth, i finished the VF-1S (FINALLY): Panel lines are a bit heavy, weathering a bit too much, nose gear doors broken off, but I really don't care. I finally finished it, and it's done. It looks halfway decent and that's what matters. Hikaru and Roy enjoying a bit of hunting. Hikaru: "Roy, I get the feeling that something's behind us...." Roy: "Hikaru, I'm NOT turning around.; YOU don't turn around either. If we don't turn around, then we're safe..." Hikaru: "Um...not to question your logic sempai, but that...er...doesn't sound like a very good plan." Roy: "Yeah, well I'm all out of rum back at base so getting 'liquid courage' ain't gonna happen this time around, little brother." Hikaru: "We're screwed..." Roy: "Yup. But look on the bright side: at least you don't have to listen to Misa bitching at you for being late getting back to base."
  12. Well, my solution was to remove the doors from the other valkyries as well, seeing as those also had cracks that were waiting to open up. I'd rather just leave the tires exposed a little on the bottom than wrestle with this.
  13. When I did a 1/48 F-14 Tomcat conversion to a GI Joe "Skystriker", I used a large wooden dowel that I cut to length and then machined the ends using a dremel tool.
  14. Incredible work!! Absolutely LOVE this!!
  15. Progress report: picked up the cockpit to work on it, and instead managed to snap the landing gear doors right off the nose- This really pisses me off. This $#!+ always happens when I try to build Skull-1. Anyways, needing to repaint the nose after stripping it (long story) and I really would like to finish this model someday. Half-tempted to just glue the damn landing gear shut and add a plate over this section. Stay tuned folks.
  16. I often rebuild those joints that are a royal pain (case in point: the VF-1's bicep swivel). Sometimes it's just easier to do that than try to follow their plan and end up with either a joint that may as well be a revolving door, or one that is so frozen in place that freeing it would also free the limb in question from the body!
  17. Now you just need the "Disco" version of the Star Wars theme and a small disco mirror ball Death Star! lol Anywho, some progress on my VF-1S: I did some panel line work on the Battroid Nose/ cockpit so that it looked like the Fighter/ Gerwalk Version. A closer look here: I also found a spare pilot from my first build of the VF-1S and did some reworking on him. I didn't really care for the "I hope no one hurts me" near-fetal pose he was in (sorry about the blurriness, my camera doen't like it's own close-up mode): I also reworked the cockpit a bit; I plan on redoing the side panels in the "tub" with greeblies added for throttle and control sticks. I'll also see about a transparent HUD as I go: I also did some panel engraving on the topside of the fighter: after the VF-1J, it just looked a bit too plain to me. I may go back and redo the 1J at some pint with a blade and some darker paint to contrast the panels, but that's for another day when I feel brave: Battroid mode: I rounded the fronts of the thighs/ intakes a bit as the felt a bit boxy: I don't plan on going "overboard" on this one, but just touching up a few things that often bothered me about the Imai VF-1 Variable kit. I may also revise the tail and add a bit to the ailerons (they seem a bit skinny to me). Stay tuned...
  18. ROFL!! In all seriousness though: while I like the detail, the neck mechanics look a little too exposed, unless the armor for it is omitted in the sculpture for the sake of viewing. I know on the VF-1S, it has a series of "gussets' between the head and the neck.
  19. You can buy white or clear decal paper and print them on an inkjet printer. You just have to clearcoat them and then cut them out, as the carrier film is all over the backing paper. Only thing with it is that if you're printing on clear paper, "white" comes out as transparent (unless you have a printer that can actually print white ink such as ALPS), so you would have to either print that on white decal paper and have another color over it for contrast, put plain white decal film just underneath it, or place the decal over a white surface/ paint white on the model where you need it before putting the decal down.
  20. Really nice job there! I like th gold on the stand, it brings out the plaque and the wording on it.
  21. Thanks! I found it on Ebay; ended up paying 40 bucks including shipping (was 10 but someone decided to mess with me in a bidding war and i got tired of their crap). It was also missing the missiles, but I really didn't care so much about that.
  22. I've had this issue on my tomcat builds: after gluing the canopy in place, I scraped the plastic do match the level of the clear canopy. You probably don't want to try that, but I'm nuts anyways (just ask folks here! :P )
  23. Well, I'm back after a considerable hiatus (and a cross-country move that was the move from hell!) I recently found another valk (a Bandai reissue of Imai's original, 90's vintage)- Aside from missing the pilot (thankfully, the only thing), the kit is complete. I plan on printing actual decals in my printer to replace the old ones that came with this kit. They're pretty yellowed and I tested one that shattered when i did so. I think I'll attempt Roy's valk one more time. Stay tuned...
  24. On that note: has anyone ever considered that Voltron's main weakness is most likely a gigantic ball of YARN?
