    Hey so I know this is a Star Wars thread, but if you were sorely disappointed by TRoS and want something to cleanse your theatrical palate and remind you that good filmmaking and good storytelling still exist in this world, I highly recommend you see the movie 1917 as soon as possible. It's really, really, quite incredibly good. I only bring this up because as I walked out of the theater I found myself comparing this to TRoS and found the latter so utterly lacking in every way despite having so much more inertia propelling it forward and every reason in the world to be a commercial and critical success. This film was cathartic. Okay, tangent over, back to Star Wars.

    Seconded. I was thrown off by that price tag at first before realizing it was just the magazine plus instruction DVD. While we're on it, anyone know what the total price is, or have they not released that info?

    I feel like 1917 deserves its own thread. Saw it late tonight, and Holy. frakking. crap. I came out comparing it to my last theatrical outing, which just so happens to be Rise of Skywalker, and man, that's just not fair, it's not even a competition. This movie is so frakking good, you guys. Go see it as soon as you possibly can.

    Just saw this listing on HLJ. First magazine is up for preorder, containing the build instructions on DVD. And apparently yes, it is diecast. Dunno if that was a thing you all were wondering, but there you are. According to the listing, parts will release weekly.     ...I think all three of them look fine. What am I missing? I mean the Eva I'll always prefer the original anime to any of the revisions including this one, but even this isn't as overdressed as, say, the Metal Build...

    You're pretty close. Officially, neither line aims for a scale so much as an absolute size: IIRC Metal Builds aim for 18-20cm tall (7-8 in.) and RD for 12-15cm (5-6 in.). There can be a lot of wiggle room in there, especially on the RD end; again IIRC, "smaller" designs like the Wing and Victory Gundams tend to the same absolute size as "larger" Unicorns and Sazabis, etc. Even in the ostensibly stricter world of model kits, scale can fluctuate slightly. The HGAC Wing Gundam, for instance, is similarly larger than it "should be" despite the 1/144 advertised scale. I suspect that scales actually came second, ie toys were designed for a certain size first and then a rough scale figured out later, but then scale eventually replaced size as the standard. Is the GFFMC line in roughly 1/100 scale? I think I was confused by this back when the line first started because up to that point, GFF was all 1/144 scale (and specifically 1/144 scale, at that, no wiggle room).

    Metal Build and Metal Robot Damashii are different lines, the former larger and clearly more of a premium line. Semantics, but still. Anyway.

    Shows how much attention I paid that movie, then... I don't get it. How is it any different from what other characters have done, and why does it need to be A Thing in the first place? It's just spooky Force shenanigans. It doesn't need, like... a special prophecy or whatever. Maybe it's pumped up a bit (okay, a lot), but still... If color itself was exclusive to the Jedi, then I could buy this reasoning more; sensing the Force is like seeing color in a grayscale world, Pleasantville-style. But there's nothing to suggest that's the case. For all intents and purposes, color "behaves" exactly as it does in the real world, and in the real world, people change colors on a whim all the time. Hell, STAR WARS LIGHTSABER COLORS changed for no other reason than because people wanted different colors. There's significance to be found in lightsaber colors, sure, but... I dunno, the way Star Wars does it just feels so flimsy. It doesn't have to be this highly ritualistic, symbolic thing. It could just be that Mace Windu's lightsaber is purple because dude thought it was a rad ass color. grumble grumble grumble The Force as I knew it was always a pretty near facsimile of ideas of chi and dao, and while yeah it came to operate in a similar fashion to that of new age mysticism garbage, it was always more... intangible and unfathomable than that. A lightsaber is a physical item. The Force is ineffable. What was it Yoda said? "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." Maybe I'm getting too philosophical, but material things being needed for enlightenment... it doesn't sit well with me. Exactly this. The OT lightsaber is "the weapon of the Jedi," sure, but it's also... not. "The Force is my ally," says Yoda. The PT, or at least that bit in AotC where Obi-wan tells Anakin, "This weapon is your life!", the lightsaber is a katana, it's a sloppy samurai bushido metaphor. Somewhere along the way, the lightsaber, the Force, and the Jedi all became the same thing. One could not exist without the other two. It's... inelegant. I was always under the impression that lightsabers were simply esoteric tools, with too many obvious design flaws to be safe, and which were replaced by other, equally as or more effective alternatives (like blasters). The only reason Jedi were able to effectively use them from a practical standpoint, and why they became so tied to the collective image of a Jedi, is that Jedi have the requisite precognitive abilities to not horribly maim themselves with them. A "normie" could use them with similar proficiency if they simply practiced and dedicated themselves enough to it.

    That's not a Metal Build, it's a Robot Damashii. Smaller scale, not as premium a line.

    It came out around the same time as others that are commonly thought of as being influenced by Eva. While there's almost certainly some influence, they all also probably drew from the same creative wellspring, too. As for the show itself, I don't remember much about it, honestly. There WAS a bit of... a similar "man and his metaphysical connection to his machine" vibe to it, I think the main character slowly starts to mind-meld with his mech over the course of the show? I remember there also being a big Shinto ritual thing, with one of those dudes with the traditional garb and the long red hair/scarf... Anyway, this is pretty cool to see out of nowhere. Not sure it's something interesting enough to get, but it's neat all the same. Clearly it was someone's passion project, which I can respect them being able to see it all the way through to production. As for scale, in-universe these things were really small, maybe like... 4-5 meters only? Votoms, yes, like @Keith says. I remember in one of the introductory episodes they go up against tanks, rappel up and down buildings, etc.

    I mean the idea of the two of them specifically being tied together by the Force in a way unique from all the other Jedi in the past, did that come from TFA or something? Maybe an interview with JJA? Supplementary material? That's a problem with the storytelling, then, not so much the ability itself. In which case, I see, that makes much more sense. I'm just being a pedantic ass at this rate, so feel free to ignore my ranting, it's mostly disingenuous questioning. Is that then the only way a lightsaber is made? Are they exclusively a Force user weapon? I always got the sense that anyone could use a lightsaber, but only a Jedi had the Force-derived level of premonition to wield such an inherently unsafe weapon. If a Jedi doesn't like the color of their weapon, what then? Can they change it? Does the color of a lightsaber change as the Jedi grows and their "nature" changes? What if a Jedi dies? If a Jedi gives their lightsaber away? If it doesn't really matter that you personalize your lightsaber, why not mass produce them in some fashion? What's the point of making a crystal "bleed"? Does it make the resulting lightsaber stronger than a regular lightsaber? Doesn't seem to. Seems rather extraneous. I mean, if the crystals call to a Jedi and indicates a Jedi's nature, wouldn't one that calls to a Sith already make a red lightsaber if red indicates hatred and anger? Or is red like an "artificial" color, one that doesn't naturally occur? I dunno, that sounds perilously close to some new age mysticism BS. I mean even if we hold that to be the case - which it seems to be?, at least in-universe - like... what if someone just wants a different color lightsaber? Are they literally just stuck with whatever one they get at age 16, 17, whenever they make a lightsaber? Surely someone would have desired a different color enough to invent that technology? And it would then be arbitrary to change one's lightsaber color like you do in every Star Wars game ever? When did people start using the term "dyad"? is what I'm specifically asking.

    Yeah, but the Robot Damashii wasn't sculpted by Bandai's hobby division. If they brought over whoever from the toys division did do the sculpting, I'd be a bit optimistic, but they'll probably just try to Katoki/RG it up like they always do.

    The fact that they and their associated show (I'm talking about Invisible Victory here) came out something like a decade after their time certainly didn't help, methinks. That iron was ice frickin' cold, Bandai, c'mon.

    I've got a question of my own: Where's this "Force dyad" thing coming from? I don't recall such a term ever being mentioned in the movies. (If it was in TFA, then I guess that shows how much attention I paid that movie.) I just assumed it was funky Force mojo working on them across space-time same as it always did. I don't get why this movie in particular suddenly has people questioning Force powers. It's weird space magic that sometimes blindsides even the most "adept" at harnessing it; Rey and Kylo Ren were both clearly weirded out by their "ability" to communicate in the last movie, as well as by how much stronger that "ability" progressed throughout this one. Kylo Ren looked like he was about to crap himself in terror when he saw her necklace in his hand. Is it, and do you? I mean yes, healing someone probably involves expending some effort, but I picture it less as "you put your life energy into them" and more as "you manipulate the Force and how it interacts with their body to promote cell growth" or something. Why is lightsaber color such a... a thing for Star Wars? I mean I know why, I get it. I just find the in-universe lore about them really stupid. They were red and blue (and green) in the OT because red is a threatening color and blue is a cooler, peaceful one (and green was different from blue but still A Good Color). (And of course they were originally colorless IIRC but that was maybe because the effects hadn't been finished yet and/or the concept of a lightsaber hadn't yet included color and/or something else, I'm sure someone here can explain it all.) Then somewhere along the way red became ONLY a Sith color for Reasons, or maybe Sith ONLY used red lightsabers again for Reasons, whereas Jedi get their pick of the entire frickin' rainbow for their own Reasons, and it's all symbolic, and all this attention paid to this. one. Specific. THING. and none of it bothers to think about actual reasons for color-coding. Like, I'd buy the lore if it just included, somewhere along the line, someone having X-colored lightsaber and casually explaining, "Yeah I thought green would look frakking cool." And then someone else is like "That lightsaber totally does not go with your outfit, what are you thinking?" And then a third person chimes in with "So what? No one asked you, Brenda." And the pragmatist of the group goes, "Shut the frakk up and hand me your orange lightsaber so I can cut a hole through this wall," because he's colorblind.

    What's the difference between the -0C and others? - 0A = Shin/CF - 0B = two-seater - 0C = two-seater(?) + all Ghost add-ons except for Ghost itself? - 0D = delta wing trainer - 0S = Roy/squad leader EDIT: Also I didn't realize the VF-31J is a LE kit. Are all the Delta releases LE? IIRC that wasn't the case for the VF-25, right?

    I'll say this, though: For the past week or two now, I've been obsessively choreographing in my mind a battle between Some Dude with an extra large lightsaber claymore and Some Girl with a lightsaber polearm. It's been years since I last did that. So... I mean it's got that going for it, I guess.

    By "design" you mean DAT ASS!!!! But no for real, I have that second figure and it is wonderful. (Managed to get mine for a relative steal (~$120 shipped) on YJP.) I agree it adheres better to Sadamoto's style than the 1/7, though I'm sure that one's not bad either, it's all a matter of taste.

    "Go, Hand, go!" Luke whispers urgently as he releases the harness on his hand. In an instant, it shoots through the halls of Cloud City, scrabbling on five spindly finger-legs. At an intersection, it pauses, raises index and middle fingers into the air to smell, then squirts a bit of blood from its stump forearm for Luke to follow before darting down another hallway. This way, definitely this way. It would know the smell of Wookie anywhere.
