Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st
KingNor replied to Blaine23's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
i'm not getting these. it's totally glaringly bad to see cg mixed in with 70's film, just horrible. StarWars (just the original, episode 4 ) is such a superb movie in it's original format... the tacked on forshadwoing.. cg.. weird edits.. its just ugly. sorry i'll pass.. and all this talk about the stories not being finished and all this.. it's bull. Star Wars. was originally intended to be a single movie. its original theater showing didn't say anything about "episode iv" it was all added later. the 'oh so famous' Imperial March isn't even in the first movie. everything past "starwars" i can just given a 'meh' -
I'm fairly sure that drawing is "officially" black and white. I'm pretty sure any colored version of it were done after it was published.. know what i mean? i'm pretty sure i've seen that exact same drawing done as tv hikkyroo

too many superheros standing around has always looked tacky to me.. i'll take the "elite" justice league thats been on. more "special forces" ish than the "we'll just send 15 super heros to handle it" approach.

MACROSS PLUS MOVIE EDITION JAPANESE GOOD OR NOT?!
KingNor replied to isamu-ad's topic in Movies and TV Series
There's a reason for that, a reason why widescreen exists and why televisions are moving to a widescreen aspect. It's closer to how we naturally see. Try and put your fingers at the very edge of your vision. We actually view the world in a wider aspect ratio than most movies are filmed in. I know. I also know that some people can't stand to have a screen that isn't completely full. isn't annoying when someone is like "hey, they're covering up the movie i want to see it ALL!" arg! they dont get it. -

Try and put your fingers at the very edge of your vision. We actually view the world in a wider aspect ratio than most movies are filmed in. well the REAL reason for wide screen was originaly as part of the gimick craze in the early history of movies. smello-vision and the obsene Cinema-scope (cool but over kill maybe?) fell by the way side but the wider aspect ratios stood the test of time. movie makers like to give audiences something they cant get at home, but wide screen is becomeing so popular (both because it is assosicated with high quality, and probably because of the reason you stated above) that its makeing the jump to TV screen size. personally i like square tv's with the wide screen shown in the middle. i prefer it to using a wide screen tv and watching non wide screen stuff with usually grey or black bars on the sides. or streached, i can't stand streached. -
how else do you pronounce it? Most dub studio's (including those who did robotech & macross plus) will usually pornunce it "Mac-ross" (lower "o" sound used in such words as "boss," or "moss." Macross however is properly pronunced "Mac-ROSS," sound used in such words as post, most, hose, etc. As such, its unconventional for anyone who's only seen robotech to pronunce it properly. ive always said it like: mac and cross. just combine the c's so thats wrong huh? ***edit*** as a odd note, i noticed in robotech, the anouncer guy (who sounds like hes from the 50's ) pronounces it MACruss.

Really? Maybe just me, but this doesn't strike me as the best way to get folks peaceably on topic: Yes, it's obvious that rocks floating are related to Mayan markings and Sara's singing. But it's not completely obvious that it's flat out non-mystical protoculture technology. It certainly hasn't been presented that way at all-- in fact there's a heavy dose of mystical in the presentation-- and that's what folks don't care for. Fanboys paying attention might conclude that the magicky effects are protoculture technological in nature, but it hasn't been proven decisively either way. And those of us have issues with the presentation have issues not so much for whether those effects are magical, but rather, have issues with the series showing that sort of thing and not being given real explaination so far... and fearing that at most we'll just get "it's protoculture... and stuff" as clarification in the final episode. That's not a comfortable and satisfying ending for those who don't care for the mystical in their Macross. Hopefully that won't be the case. There are plenty of reasons to believe that SDF might not have been intended to incorporate the mystical, beyond simply not having the time or budget for it. But these of course, are too inconvenient too mull at length over, at least for those holding certain agendas and hopes. This is amusing... on one hand, M7/M0 defenders are claiming that there's nothing mystical at all about Spiritia and the weird freaky floating rocks in M0-- on the other hand, we have M7/M0 defenders claiming that they're outrightly mystical, so much so that in some weird way, it shows the mystical to be present in SDF as well. Then there are those stuck in the middle who just don't care much for the idea altogether, who were rather enjoying SDF and M+, before Kawamori decided to take a long hike towards Weird. -Al you've summed up everything i wanted to say about MO much more eloquently than i could do myself. thank you!

well it's an anime con, i think you can go dressed how ever you want. dress up like captain america, why do they care what you dress as? are you suggesting they have people at the doors with a big book of characters you can and can't be and only admit people who dress up as certain characters?

girls are so pretty. It's really amazing.

males don't pilot the Q-rau, just the females, the guys have a diffrent kind of power suit that they wear, they don't "slip into it" the way the girls do. the guys arms go down into the arms of the suit, their legs go into the legs of the suit. its alot smaller than the Q-rau. look at it this way: the Q-rau is something like a tiny mech that the girls "pilot" the male "battle armor" is more like 'armor' the guy wears. i think thats how it goes.

well i think the problem with that is theres no money to be made...please let me explain before you bust out your flame-throwers. now, its safe to say if yamato made a plain ol monster, we'd all buy it right? but how much could yamato charge? or retailers/etailers? meaning, they can't justify a high price tag since it lacks any real features. it doesn't TF into any modes, it just sits there like a robot with big cannons. how much would you pay for a toy that did nothing? personally, at 1/100 scale, i wouldn't pay more than $50 tops. so what the next move for yamato? "hey why don't we make the koeing monster? it TFs into 3 modes just like the VF's". and since it TFs unlike the Q-rau that we ripped everyone off with, we should be able to justify the price which should be around the same price as a non FP 1/48." now, i don't know if that was anyone exact words but i have a feeling it went something like that. Not gonna use my flamethrower here. Totally agree with you there:D Isn't that Q-Rau thing doing good thouhg? Seems like that fits the same market. In this case I'd be much more willing to buy the original Monster than the transformable one. I wonder if I'm in the minority.
-
I don't play with my 1/48 as much as I'd like, not because I'm above it or anything (I play with my Banprestos daily) but because [vin deisel] It scares the crap outa me [/vin deisel], it's just so big and pretty and $$$, I don't want to break it.
-
1/48's can't solve ALL the worlds problems, the Q looks better battleing the 1/60's its the proper scale.
-
what about the 'original' monster, is there a chance of one of those?
-
FUNNY! I'm happy now! thanks for finding that agent one.
