Haven't we heard this all before?

Answer, yes. multiply by 50-100? where you get those numbers from? sounds high to me. 1,700,000 is a hell of alot of people. but.. lets say for the sake of argument, that it IS that high. that's still only a small % of the population of one of our many large citys. really i think there just isn't THAT much of a fandom in america for Anime. though it is kinda the fad of the day. i dont' think that many people are "seriously" into it. i'll agree its grown at a fenominal rate, staggering really. thats arbitrary however. 10 years ago no one even knew what anime is. i just really don't feel anime has taken hold here at all. i think its a fad at best right now. don't forget that us here at macrossworld represent a tiny minority of people who dig anime ALOT. thats basicly my opinion on this. -

honestly these numbers just dont' impress me this much. Otakon is like the biggest anime event in the US isn't it? 17k? i mean its alot of people but compaired to the nation its nothing. 4k is even more to my point. maybe my numbers are off, but when the BIGGEST convention pull 17k people, i din't think that really puts it in mainstream. i could be wrong. -

sorry i forgot to quote who i was talking too: no mention of skill is in here, he's simply stating that he wants jobs taken from non japanise and given to others simply because of race... thats what i'm reading anyway. oh well what ever. -

complete and totall bull, anyone can draw anything if they work enough at it. its like saying the japanise could never do good oil paintings because all the masters were european. bull total racism.. what ever. long live good anime, rot in hell bad anime and greedy buisness practices. in the end though, remember that these shows we know and love are really just half hour advertisements for themselves, these things exist to make money and if they don't do that, no one will make them. so its to be expected they look for cheaper and cheaper ways to do buisness. if they industry runs itself into the ground it might set things back a bit, but if anime is considered true art in the comunity, it'll have a reviveal. kinda... eh.. like.. ..... rotoscope -

wow, imagine if this had been a white guy talking about blacks.... an animator is an animator dude, if they can do the work they should have the job no mater what the race. i really wish anime would have caught on a bit better here, especialy with the more mature storylines and long story arcs, i'm not a huge fan of purely episode based shows. -
this really is the truth, i long for the day when all peoples in the united states will be proud enough to call them selfs.. "americans" and not "x-american" i've adopted this country completely, i dont' consider myself german-american, or irish-american or euro-american. i'm american. thats it. i'm sure there are other races in my gene's backround that make me who i am, and they're only there because of my familys being in america. my ethnicity is american.

actuall, i think since brittan was the last "super empire" alot of terminology started there. so, i think "the west" actually refers to anything west of brittan. brittan being the center of the empire. european countrys were east of brittan but still in europe, i think you had to be east of europe itself before england considered you "the east" i've never heard that term occidental before, i wonder if europe considers the americas to be one big "occident" get it? bad joke. personally, i think this disscussion has pretty much resolved it self, i learned a whole bunch so if the mods want to lock it before it has the opprotunity to go sour, thats fine by me.

Why the MAUVE ( from YUKIKAZE) would beat the VF 0
KingNor replied to sktchrtst2002's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
so are we compairing hardware, the jets within their universe's or are we compairing studio animation? just because a stuido animates its jet to look like its going super seyan fast, doesnt' mean tthat the tech specs on the jet are as such. it sounds almost like you just like the way teh mauve looks so you want to talk crap. f360 is right by the way, if the mauve is a 3rd generation fighter in it's universe, you should be compairing it to a similarly refined fighter like the vf-19 the vf-0 is a prototype to the vf-1, even in the serise its limited and not considered complete. its like saying my f-15 can totally beat a me262 because it's animated better... uh no. get some hard numbers ont he performance of your plane and post it. the only description of your planes performance has been that it got new engines that increase its "speed" tenfold. so uh.. what was its speed to begin with? what's its speed with the upgrade? what kind of damage can it take? (and i don't want to hear "in episode 2 it gets hit by 3 missles, oh its super tough", how strong were the missles then?) what kind of damage can it dish out? you say it can transform? whats that mean exactly, i don't have episode 4, be more specific. if this is going to be a viable discussion you need to post more than "its better cuz i like it, oh! roy got shot down" and the Humongus will steal your gasoline. -
one of my favorite snes themes was the slow zelda theme from link to the past, the one they play during the end credits with the polygon triforce in the backround. i'm really kinda miffed it never showed up again in a later zelda game

Why the MAUVE ( from YUKIKAZE) would beat the VF 0
KingNor replied to sktchrtst2002's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Eh... I totally disagree. Different anime have their own different set of physics and rules governing their world (usually based on the creators whim). Because this is so, any versus discussion becomes moot since you can't accurately determine how something from one anime would work in another. Now, if they were set in the same world, adn we knew this going in, THEN one vs the other threads would be cool. ........? isnt' that kinda exactly what i said? Oops. I meant to reply to the "Fun to geek out on" part of your statement. <- (stupid wdc) no worries -
Mechamaniac: to answer your question, people use ethnicity just as any other describer. to help people tell other people apart. generaly, we use the most obvious ways of identifying someone when we are talking about them. if its a really tall person, people say "i know this guy, real tall, bla bla bla" its just a description. generally speaking, race is often an easy way to pick someone out in a crowd.. so say its a room full of whites, two blacks and an asain.. its easyest to say "yeah, thats my friend joe, hes the asian guy over there" than it is to say " my friend joe is the guy with the black hair" or "the guy with glasses" or any of the other things that most likely are shared by at least a few other people. say i was meeting someone from the internet in a resturant in japan, i would tell them to look for the white guy. ethnicity is often (but not always) an easy way to tell people apart. i'm sure most other countrys don't give this sort of thing much thought as in MOST countrys the ethnicity of the people is pretty uniform. hope that makes sence. in kind of a twisted way, someone COULD say that "this guy/girl i know" singles out their gender. i don't think useing generalizations simply as a means to help paint the picture of someone is necesarily a bad thing. Stamen008: i think the way the language classification would work is you would simply be considered a English and Viet-Namese speaker. You'd be both. the cool thing is that it doesn't really imply anything about you except what languages we can comunicate in. wich in the end is realy all thats important... to me anyway.

Production F-35 too heavy to take off vertically
KingNor replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
i've always heard that the f-18's wern't as good as the f-14s. as a navy brat growing up on navy bases all my life, there was always just SOMETHING about the f-14. it just looks RIGHT as a navy plane, like it was part of the aircraftcarrier design to have them. its really too bad that f25 thing never made it. the few naval pilots i talked to always would make comments about how f-18 pilots were just in training for f-14 jobs. is there anything on the web with clear cut comparisons of how the f-14 out classes the f-18 that would be readable by an amature like myself? -
That's the only way to have fun in a racing game! It's no fun if you drive clean the whole time. personally, in GT, it is. it's so rewarding to take a corner, feathering the break or gas, loose as little speed as possible and come out the other side with at just the right angle and speed to use all the track to my advantage. much, MUCH more rewarding that rearending my midnight club friends who all pick vipers and xj220s and spin out at every corner, then complain the game is sucky.

i liked the CG tv show better than the movie.

an f-14 would beat them both because not only can it really fly (the closest you can get with a vf-0 is to throw it's 1/60 ass really hard) but it can also shoot missles. even the best animated sequence can't beat a real jet. just kiddin i agree the vs threads are kind of lame just because none of these vehicles opperate in the same universe. but... sometimes these discussions are fun to geek out on.
