  1. Hey all! I'm back after a long absence... life and other stuff has gotten in the way, mainly my dad passing away in March. Anyhow, thought I'd show ya all my slowly growing 1/6th collection... the first two are Customs me and my GF did of two of my comic characters, BlackStar(the Asian chick), and Crimson Angel 2.0(showed off a previous version of her here last year or so.) Then the HT AOU Black Widow and Vision, Batman, and Medicom Ultraman B version.
  2. Yeah, when I saw the price for the option set I said, "NOPE!" I HATE how Bandai jacks the price up for web exsclusives, and this just isn't at all worth it to me. $300 or more for a new StealthGao, driver and stand? Nope.
  3. I am hesitantly interested. I do however wish that THIS was the show to premiere instead:(and this isn't JUST an excuse to post fanart I made for a fancomic I am working on)new condor saga posterFINAL.bmp
  4. There is model work in the film. And night shots. I completely disagree that it doesn't look good. After not being able to see the cartoony CG in Edwardszilla cos it was dark to hide how cartoony it was this is a bold move. And I think it works. My only gripe is how the tail always seems up in the air. Looks unatural.
  5. Supposedly, and this is NOT confirmed but has been implied from various sources, that it MAY be the original Godzilla somehow regenerating himself. We'll have to see the movie to know for sure. THIS. IS. AWESOME. THIS is what I wanted from 2014. And this is design is much, much more impressive in action. Still not what I'd have done but I have really gotten behind this version.
  6. HOLY CRAP!! That is F@$$ing incredible for legos! I wouldn't mind trying that, me and my girlfriend sometimes mess around with legos. Damn is that cool.
  7. Heh. I am really not up to speed on these newer shows. Macross II AND Plus are the most recent iterations I have seen. And the only one that catches my interest is Zero. Well... that's a thing. Glad I've NOT seen it then 😄
  8. That is correct. But its also just a justification for the design. But again, it gives it that feel of being believable. Like the original intent of the VF-1 transforming into a robot is to be a ground unit to go toe to toe with a Zentraedi. It doesn't TOTALLY work(why not just have a dedicated humanoid robot for that?) But it gives a plausibility to it. And the more practical design of the VF-1 makes it much easier for me, at least, to suspend my disbelief at giant mecha stomping about. Like I look at the Macross Quarter, and the first thing I said to my friend Jon(also a big Macross fan) was, "why does it need actual hands? And why does it have a shield made outta the carrier deck? Why do its legs move? It's never gonna be able to walk planetside!" The SDF-1 is equally absurd but they made it a "not" robot. It has the look of a robot, but other than moving its arms it never acts like a robot, and is treated as a ship regardless of appearance.
  9. The Enterprise design isn't practical, but it was designed to look practical. Matt Jefferies actually did a pretty realistic first stab, with a small command section attached to a boom that connected to an engine pod with a spinning gravity generator/warp engine, but Roddenberry wanted something that while feeling realistic was more visually distinct. So in using the Enterprise example I should have clarified: the basic design may not be realistic but HOW it was detailed, painted ect. Was intended to look realistic and practical.
  10. I agree. But there is also today this notion of "make it look cool first and worry about logic later", as well. It really all started with 2001, where the Discovery was detailed with all those greeblies for no logical reason. Clarke is rumored to have been annoyed by that as he envisioned the design to be a clean and uncluttered version of what was on screen. Then Star Wars really ramped it up. I think the best compromise between logic and looks would be(for me) the refit Enterprise/-A. All the hull paneling is painted on, and intended to JUST be noticed. The ship itself is low on external detailing. And I think it works. I get that Kawamori has been trying to make the mechanical side of the transformations more realistic, but I firmly believe simplifying the transformation and simply try to adhere to a concept of (and I hate the way this terms being thrown about alot), "grounded" handling of it would go a long way. If you're simply doing something like Getter Robo, then logic is not a concern. But the more real you want something to feel the bigger the challenge is to suspend disbelief.
  11. This. That is exactly what I see when I look at Bayformer movie ads. And frankly, it looks silly. Its like when people talk trash on the TOS Enterprise and say JJprise looks more realistic... uhm, no. You don't design something like that to look "sexy". You design for its purpose. Practicality. The VF-1s are another example. Not to offend anyone who likes the new shows, but none of the newer VFs are as practical and believable looking as the VF-1S. Sexier? Maybe. More complex looking? Yep. But from a military/technical standpoint, something as complex in transforming as a VF-25 would most likely be an incredible maintainence nightmare, as well as dangerous should the thing malfunction. While those problems certainly would exist with a VF-1, they are not nearly as big an issue... except for the weirdness that is the leg delivery systems. ☺
  12. Looks decent... except for the frankly stupid Bayformers design esthetic that everyone rips off now. And if an actual Robotech or Macross LA film would have that look, auto out for me. I hate that design asthetic applied to stuff like Transformers or Macross. Simply too overblown.
  13. Pics of my Voltes V and his older sibling Combattler are comin sometime tomorrow.
  14. Thanks! If only I could afford the Falcon Base playset for it... NEVER gonna happen. I am stunned at how posable the combined mode is. Not Madtoys Golion posable but far, far more posable than all my other SOC toys EXCEPT GGG.
  15. I GOT MY SOC HOLY GRAIL, VOLTES V!!! 😆😆😆 Squeeing like a damn girl! I've wanted this set since it came out, but could never afford it. Well, thanks to our contract signing bonus and luck, I found one on Amazon for $200! Box is dinged, otherwise mint. Could care less about the box. And I LOVE this set! Officially my favorite SOC, even topping(barely) my beloved GaoGaiGar!
  16. I hate those crotch hooks, mainly cos as you see in the photos I like to have dynamic poses to my figures. ASAP I am getting a waist claw to replace it. Creasing the rubber isn't a thing for me unless that could damage it cos I am more concerned with a good pose. Unless as I said creasing will damage the rubber to the point of splitting. And the Keaton Batman is the only one I have or will have. I always liked his version of the character even if the movies are a bit meh.
  17. Yeah, but he could fight fairly well in them, so I hoped that it'd be able to do a good fighting pose. It's not the suit that seems to be the problem, either. The joints seem to be just a tad loose in the legs, he can stand unaided even posed but the joints just can't seem to hold more extreme poses. And he has a padded undersuit that seems to be a problem as well. I'm not cutting his suit apart to remove that though. Another issue is those dumb crotch hooks that HT use. A waist claw and/or flex stand would help alot.
  18. Well, I got the Batman Returns Batman! Not as dynamically posable as I'd hoped, but still sweet.
  19. I have gotten to the point of completely ignoring most modern versions of things I grew up on since they throw out everything that made me love them. Nuwho, JJTrek, this, and to a degree Godzilla 2014. They keep saying(companies and fans) OH BUT WE HASTA CHANGE EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT RELEVANT FOR PEOPLE TODAY! No, you don't. Simply TELL good stories. Take the lions, detail them more, maybe give em digigrade rear legs, and then you look at your STORY. take the best elements of BOTH Golion and Voltron, flesh out ALL the characters, expand on the world and universe, and NO SPACEMICE!😛 Seriously, it's really not that hard. But whatever. They will continue tk appeal to nkn fans, and I will go watch what I grew up with and not care about this just as I didn't care about the Voltron Firce one. And that lego set is fricking awesomeness!!
  20. Well due to a ridiculously big signing bonus at work for our new contract, I will finally be expanding my Hot Toys collection by getting the Batman returns figure, and possibly either Thor or Scarlet Witch. Not sure for either of them, however as I have other things I need to get like a new laptop so I can FINALLY get back to 3d art.
  21. Been out of the loop on this. HOOOOLLLLYYY SH##!!! FRACKING INCREDIBLE! Now I am nervous about working on mine... I want to borrow alot of the techniques from this build... but yeah. Dunno if mine will come out ANYWHERE near this great. Intimidated. 😅
  22. I seem to recall reading online that there was talk at the time of turning that reboot title sequence into an actual series, but it never got off the ground. Damn shame, cos I'd LOVE to see it happen. That is definitely one of the best modernizations of a classic super robot ever. That is how Voltron/golion needs treated. Don't go EXTREME with updating it. Just enough to make it look more realistic and leave it at that.
