  1. K-ON It's an anime that's based around music the same way Macross is, except without all the war and romance stuff. Just a light comedy about girls in a light music club in High School.
  2. Hmm. Perhaps Eva seems done to me as I've made my peace with it long time ago with the end of the TV series. The movie after it seems to be more of a message statement by the director to the fans as it is supposed to be a conclusion to the story to me. As a result everything after the TV series seems unnecessary to me but I take your point Gubaba. I kinda envy you that you could still enjoy the series especially since they're still producing works for it. I enjoyed the series and I heartily acknowledge it's impact that any other works have yet to come close to in both financial and critical success, it's just that the continuous exposure and constant remakes starts to wear down the emotional impact the series had with me way back then. I'm going to leave this at that now since this is actually a Frontier thread and not the general anime thread. In regard to the wait for the Frontier movie, I think that's just a result of un-realistic expectations of the now ADD generation. They don't know that each TV episode takes months to make ahead of time and since they're broadcast weekly they think it takes no time at all to make a movie straight after the series ended. It's that and the pushed back release date which is driving them into a greater frenzy.
  3. Yeah, yeah. I know. The whole industry is a business after all, if there's money to be made there why not. I was just making a jab at how it's continuing to whip a dying(dead) horse. Seriously though, where are all these people who are continuing to buy into this series coming from? Are they in it to relieve the nostalgia of the series? Or are they really just hoping for a different ending this time around?
  4. To be quite fair, Kara no Kyoukai movies were planned that way, otherwise they wouldn't be able to explore the depth of each of the novel chapters. If they didn't they'd likely end up with what happened with the Tsukihime anime and suffer the ensuing fan outrage (which I thought was unfair, the makers were limited in time and budget for it and were more successful in evoking the atmosphere of the game's story). They also did the Kara movies well, which is more than what I could say for the Fate/Stay Night anime. They stayed largely true to the game's story there but it was quite generic in it's execution and boring in the end, something that can't be said for the fan maligned Tsukihime anime. As for Evangelion 2.0, that's not even worth arguing for. We all know where the decision to make them comes from. $$$ If the Frontier movie goes the way of instalments, I wouldn't mind at all. The story would most likely be more streamlined and to the point. Of course the idea has never been new, this was done all the way back with the original Gundam movies and that served as a good way to get into the story of the series in three movies rather than sit through the entire tv series which in the end had quite a bit of chaff.
  5. I might be wrong but I think the DVDs were hardsubs as well. So you can't turn the subs off if you want to watch it without the text cluttering up the bottom of the screen. Let's face it, we're all so familliar with the story now we don't need subs to follow the movie anymore.
  6. Speaking of which; any news about the Frontier concerts on DVD? It's been so long now that I really beginning to believe that it's not going to happen anymore. Not too far fetched when you consider the Nanoha concert DVD came out within 6 months of the concert. It's now way pass that for Frontier. Not a fan of Nanoha btw, just using it as an example. And Nanoha isn't even as popular as Frontier. I also echo the belief that they'd be stupid not to release the DVD of the concert, there definately money to be made there for them and the demand for it it there as well.
  7. I was in a stareing contest with Kawamori. I lost. So how cool am I? j/k I was in a crowd watching his interview and because of all the people blocking my view I could only see him on the stage. Our eyes locked for half a sec and I had to politely look away. Lame I know.
  8. They do anything new with the previous episode as well, ep24? Man, still waiting for my copy to ship.
  9. HMV is also the most recognised music store in Japan/Asia. Heck I'm getting my Macross Chronicles online from them.
  10. You mean you never been in an HMV store before? Of course they took that from an original picture as well for their logo.
  11. sketchley>> Thanks for bringing this to our attention sketchley, I'll be looking in my local store to see if they have any copies of it. Not exactly cheap though is it? At just over 1,000 yen I think it's the most expensive mag I'll ever get so far.
  12. All my copies as still intact due to lack of time to organise them into the binder, which I only go the one anyway. Will have to get another one with my next order.
  13. I know for a fact that my store would have copies of it in today but with the current cost of mags here these days due to the exchange rate I doubt that I'll be picking it up either. Especially since they're probably going to only take up two pages, max. No real value for money there. Somebody else is going to have to check it out and tell me if it's worth it as well.
  14. taksraven>> I've always believed that the End of EVA was basically the director Anno getting his payback on the so-called fans and the series itself for causing his so much grief. As such I've always viewed the movie as an oddity and not really canon. Now the tv series ending was weird in it's own right as well but hey I understood where it was coming from (ie. out of budget and time) and they went for the artistic route which I can appreciate since it really didn't mess with the story. So count me as one of the very few that didn't hate the final two episodes, I think there are a couple of MW'ers that share that same view here. For SDFM, I loved both the ending at ep27 and 36 and don't really see any problems there. I think people are really just nitpicking too much out of them. Frontier itself, the only problem I have is that they really didn't build the story up for the end. It just felt like they kinda just meandered their way there at their own time. The ending itself is fine for what it is and me not really caring about the resolution of the triangle is most like why I don't have strong feelings about how it ended. Then again, Alto had never showed any strong feelings to one or the other so I believe the ending reflects that. If anything, there probably would have been a bigger flamewar if Alto suddenly chosen suddenly at the last episode.
  15. Don't complain, I've seen worse. Just be thankful that it seems like they're willing to follow it to the end of the story. For example Outlaw Star manga was only a couple or so volumes long and that story only went as far as when the group finally left the planet. Pity, as the art and story was actually pretty good to the point I prefer it to the actual anime. Btw, welcome back whispo.
  16. Hmm... I don't really know about that. I perhaps see some slight improvement in his art but not really that much. Then again there really isn't going to be that much time left for him to improve since the manga story is moving along very rapidly. I still can't get a hold of the mangas(either they kept selling out or they're just not bringing them in) but the latest Shonen Ace issue is at the part where Ranka is presented at the news conference as their saviour and main weapon against the Varjra. The chapter ends with the Sheryl in the rain sequence from the series, which turns out slightly different. So following the episodes from the tv series, it means that the story is well past the halfway mark already and could be concluded within 1-2 volumes? It really looks like they're rushing through it as quickly as possible.
  17. I just want the DVD of the Frontier Concerts. Seriously, do they think it won't sell or something?
  18. Looks like Sheryl literally has the least amount of change to the original design. Like nothing at all.
  19. I don't know what form Gubaba's work was I only just found out about it just a couple of minutes ago, but don't you have to be a member of MW to view or download the attachments posted in here?
  20. There are still phone booths around, even in Japan which has the highest ratio of cell phone users. I used one when I was there recently. So I don't see why not.
  21. I hope that means we get to hear the song Sheryl was inspired to write in ep5. I was disappointed when that didn't happen in the tv series.
  22. Blu-rays were always going to be expensive though unless you've got the setup to take advantage of it, you really are better off with just the DVDs. There is a noticeable difference in quality but not THAT noticeable. You could also blame Sony winning the format war for the price. When they were still going at it with the HD-DVDs you could see a more reasonable price for the BDs. Now without competitors they can charge whatever they like. Hey nice, I love the Flashback era helmet.
  23. You have no idea how close that becoming true for me. I happen to be at one of the Joysound Macross kareoke events last time I was in Tokyo and there were a couple of westerners in the crowd who were trying to get in on it. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your view, they could only take 5 competitors out of the 10 or so gathered there. So they whittled the number down through group "Rock, Paper, Scissors" (Jankepon?sp?). And it just so happen that the two guys was knocked out by the second draw. I could only imagine what they would have sung had they got on. And oh yeah, from that particular event atleast, no one sang "Totsugeki Love Heart". Out of the five, four of them sang "Fly Away", to varying levels of success. The first guy who looked like he's a Japanese heavy metal fan did the best of them all, no surprise there. The last one, and the only female of the lot, surprised me and a few of the people in the crowd(I overheard a couple of people near me exclaimed "Wow!" and commented on the vintage nature of the song. The girl herself would have been still in her 20's) for singing "Tenshi no Enogu" . R-E-S-P-E-C-T from me there lady. Due to the success of Frontier and the album sales, I do wonder now how many of them would be singing Frontier songs now. Don't stop. You can't let them win. You just can't.... And to kinda bring things back on topic, there now seems to be quite a few t-shirts turning up for pre-order to commemorate the Macross Launch Ceremony. Here's the pick of the lot: Lovely Concert SDF-1 t-shirt Booby Trapped And the SDF Launch Ceremony t-shirt itself They come in different sized and colors so check the site if you're thinking of getting one to fit you. I personally liked the Booby Trapped and the SDF Launch Ceremony ones.
  24. This one slipped under my radar till today:http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?K...340&ref=myp Anyone know what it is?
  25. Btw, someone want to tell me why in the interview section Kawamori's name is listed as Kawamori Masahiro? Is this new or something I should have known already?
