  1. I won't worry too much about that production if I were you, unless you're a really hardcore fan of Robotech. Production of movies usually an excess of two years and that usually only accounts for the pre-production, that's before they even warm up the cameras to start shooting. Being a probably CGI intensive movie you can easily add another year/year and a half to two for post production. So basically it's not going to show up anytime soon. Of course this is if everything goes right and the greenlight is given. As it is I don't even think that greenlight has been given yet, it probably isn't even at a state to be reviewed for the go-ahead yet. Anime to live-action movies has never had a good record of actually being made in Hollywood anyway. The Yamato/Starblazers movie idea has been doing the rounds in Hollywood since the late 80's, EVA since the start of this new century, both are currently in development hell. Heck, if you check in some movie databases you'd see that there was even a Macross live action movie that never took off the ground. Then again there are two movies that are based on anime that are coming out in the not too distant future. One of which is Dragon Ball, which is still currently being shot and the other is Speed Racer which I believe is in the last stages of post production, you can probably find the trailer for that one around easily. These however are exceptional examples since Speed Racer is being made by the Wachowskis' of the Matrix fame who due to the financial success of their movies are given a free reign to greenlit their projects, in this case being Speed Racer. In Dragon Ball's case it is being exec produced by Stephen Chow, who gave us Shaolin Soccer and Kungfu Hustle, it's success in the Western market, on top of being made rather cheaply compared to Hollywood production costs was no doubt what enticed the investors to give that movie the greenlight. You can of course include Crying Freeman, Guyver and Fist of the North Star if you want but they were actually low budget movies, something I doubt a Robotech or Macross live action would ever be if it ever want to look right. So basically that Robotech may never even happen with the movie industry being the way it is. And just to stay on topic: Transformable Valks and a carrier space battle are a must. That way they can have a cat & mouse engagement with only just two ships if need be, which would help with the CG budget, with most of the battles being fought by the fighter units. You know, this pretty much makes me wish I could see the incident in which Global's first space command's engagement against the anti-UN rebels that hijacked another ship that was mentioned in the timelines.
  2. Yeah, that's pretty much it though you have to remember that the manga's story has a more comedic twist to it compared to the tv series, if the first episode comparison is to be made. So this quirky instance may not be in the anime.
  3. Oh if you think that's weird, you just wait till later in this chapter regarding her. Keeping it vague so's not to spoil it for everyone.
  4. The first two episode may be the only one that will reference the Macross series that came before it. Sort of paying respects to them you might say. I'm pretty much expecting the series will go it's own way after that. As for the Michael being the one with the "blue" scheme, well, in movies the snipers tend to be fairly cool and important characters. This may be the angle the show probably will be going for, a pilot who can take out percise important targets at extreme range, rather than someone who can take out mutiple targets easily.
  5. Good point. Man, has it really been over 10 years since Macross 7? Way to make me feel my age. That point aside are there any examples of recent toys that was made by Bandai? It would give one a good idea on their worksmanship these days. On the color front, I do wonder who's going to be the one with the blue "ace genius" scheme. Probably haven't introduced yet since we're just on the first episode at the moment.
  6. Maybe it's just me but I'm a bit wary of Bandai's versions of Macross toys. There tend to have a certain simple bland look to them. On the upside they tend to be more durable than the rest due to it.
  7. Say are there any more pics of the old discontinued toys that were supposed to be on sale at Wonderfest? I'd be nice to see those after all these times. I also suppose it's too early to see the Full Armor VF-25 toy or model at the moment, as much as I'd liked to. Btw Sorata, you probably made a good decision not to opt for some PMC work. Unless you're hard up for some quick cash it's really not worth it from what I've heard. The pay may be good, very good in some cases depending on your skills but that's all you're getting and all they care about. Medical care doesn't extend beyond what the medics they have there can do and if you really get sick, you're going to have to find and pay for your own plane trip and your own way to a hospital. Fear of getting hung up to dry are always in the back of the minds of PMCs there. It is after all a business.
  8. That would probably mean that they are under the direct employment of the company that makes the planes while under direct command of the Frontier President. That does provide some deniablilty for the goverment since it's not directly involved with the NUN's military. Especially since if it has to take on "black" projects. Conjecture? Probably, which is why I can't wait for the series to start so that we can get a better idea of the Frontier world.
  9. It's popularity will be severly hindered by it's timeslot. Not only is it on late, at some stations have it showing on Friday mornings and people have to got to work or class in several hours time. I'm actually still trying to make sense of what station is showing it when on the three days listed on the schedule.
  10. It showing on Friday is bad because? It does seem that the show is relegated to the after midnight broadcast though. Which means only Macross fans and hardcore anime otakus will be exposed to it.
  11. Completed ending theme, most probably but we probably won't see the opening theme until the second episode. Having an opening theme on the first episode would probably spoil the introduction of the characters and story reveal. Most series these days follow that trend as a result.
  12. Actually 19:30 is 7:30pm, and that is the tail end of anime primetime broadcast so it's not too out of the left field. Having it on a weekend kinda is though. Atleast it isn't sunday mornings, only long running shows survives those. Of course it may be broadcasted on different times on the other stations across the country though. Going to have to track that down. I just hope I'll still be in the country for the second episode broadcast.
  13. What is this longer version of the special you're talking of? Is that from Bio's or something else?
  14. Hmm, I don't see it around yet. I'll search around again for it in 1/2 hours time.
  15. Looking at the character page scan I'm just happy there's going to be a grizzled bearded captain. Looks like MF just checked off another list of stuff I want in a Macross series.
  16. I find it a tad disturbing. Just kidding, kinda.... I really liked the original Macross series and the DYRL movie, though I regard the movie more as eye candy compared to the more fleshed out storyline of the tv series. Say what you might about Macross II, it had great music and mecha designs, Metal Siren excepted. Don't care about the story in Mac II either and to add insult to injury they blew it up! How dare they! (being intentionally vague here just incase they are some people that still haven't seen the thing) Macross Plus I found to be a fine side story of the Macross universe. Loved it. Macross 0 though I found adds nothing to the Macross universe. Aside from great dogfights and designs I didn't really find either the characters or story engaging. Mac 7 however was too out there for me. Macross had always been about a hard sci-fi series to me. Macross 7 was pushing it to the fantasy range. Frontier though is looking great so far but we're just going to wait and see.
  17. I think you're also forgetting that the Ghost in Mac + had a different hardware setup, namely the use of the bio-chip which made it capable of highly advanced decision making, unfortunately it also meant that it's also more volatile and unpredictable as well. There was a reason that even in Mac +, its use was controversial in the military, therefore a secret and I believe, outright outlawed outside of it. And after the Sharon Apple incident, I doubt the military even considers utilising that chip in the current Ghost units we see in Frontier. Computers onboard military aircrafts are the most well protected systems onboard, otherwise considering how computerised entire planes are these days with fly-by wire systems and so on, effective electrical interference would make them all useless. This certainly wasn't the case in Frontier since the VF-25s and VF-171 didn't seem to be affected. What we saw in Frontier was probably the result of effective sensor jamming which spoofed the Ghost's images and readings which ended up sending false signals back to it's control ship behind the lines and led to atleast one of them accidentaly crashing into another.
  18. I think what you're thinking of is the Inertia Canceller. That thing that Guld had maxed out in Macross + before going on his final run against the Ghost. Maybe it does have something to do gravity control but I've never had anyone explain to me how the inertial canceller works so I don't know.
  19. I also doubt it's supposed to be an offensive weapon, despite it's size, just a defensive one. It's not unlike the military pilots of today who have a hangun as part of their kit when they eject. Some helicopter pilots have submachine guns but's mainly due to the fact they have more room to store a weapon of that size.
  20. Actually I'd be surprised if no one critizied the first episode, deadghost. Especially from the Macross fans themselves. I personally found that while understandable that they try and cater to as many newcomers and old fans alike, ends up looking rushed as they try and touch on as many things as possible before they start blowing things up. As it is at the moment Ranka is the most fleshed out character at the moment and as a result the one I'm most attached to at the moment. As for Alto, even though he had the most screen time next to Ranka, to me he's just a bland angry young man. Of course I do understand it's just one episode so far, so it's not fair to judge but just by looking at the commercial for the second episode I could tell that one is going to be the better episode since the characters will be given more screen time to develop and grow.
  21. Not necessarly true as the Eva manga adaptation actually build on the character's back stories, which coincidentaly is also serialized in this mag as well. Though that is neither here nor there since Sadamoto is given carte blanche to take as long as he likes to come out with each chapter, and if you didn't know already, it's still on-going. I'm pretty sure the artist on this Macross Frontier manga isn't going to be given that much freedom to do just that.
  22. Probably due to the fact Mikimoto has other engagements, namely the manga "Ecole du Ciel". Granted I was surprised when I found out Mikimoto wasn't handling the Frontier adaptation but that was mainly due to the fact I've heard a rumor somewhere that had erroneously named him as handling it. **The following may be spoiler-ish if you are planning to read the scans Graham is doing of the manga, so proceed at your own discretions** I do agree with Graham that the manga gave us more shots of the VF-171 in various modes but just don't expect the action sequences in it to match that of the show. Most of the battles had no more than just a page dedicated to it. You also have to remember that this manga is serialised in a shonen (catering to 11-16 year olds) magazine, as a result you can't expect it to be as gritty in it's depictions as it would have if it was in a seinin (16-onwards) magazine. (Granted this may hold no water when you consider this mag had once serialised MPD Psycho) The story in the manga do happen differently to the show but there is more of a focus to the comedic. Such as when Ranka met Alto for the first time. Maybe it was just me but I was laughing when I read that sequence and the subsequent exchange. Especially when you remember in the special what Ranka said what she was trying to do in that park prior to meeting Alto.
  23. I actually have that issue but unfortunately I can't scan it since I don't have a scanner. Sorry. And yes to answer your previous question, it is 71 pages in length and covers the story from the first episode into 1/5 of what would be in the second episode.
  24. I ran across this CD or whatever it is while going thru the Macross Compendium which seems to be a tie-in with the Macross 7-The Galaxy is Calling movie. Does anyone know exactly what it is and it contains? Can't seem to find any other details about what it is anywhere else.
