I did define it as the overall tone rather than subject matter for that very reason.

A lot of backseat driving going on here. "I mean, I have no idea about the economics of running a toy company... but I'm pretty sure the toy company got it wrong." There's a chance you're right... but ya know... there's a pretty good chance you're not. Let's think of this another way rather than the economic choices being made. This is any company's anywhere first effort at making a YF-30. Think back at every first version of a VF toy you've ever bought. Most of you should be cancelling your preorders after that trip down memory lane. While there's been great strides in toy engineering over the years there's still no substitute for experience. The renewal version will kick butt though!

The level of 'seriousness' for Macross shows is kind of hard to pin down. Off the top of my head I guess I'd do seriousness as the follows (and I'm thinking more tone than subject matter): 1) Mac Zero 2) DYRL? 3) Mac Frontier (the OVAs would be ranked above the series) 4) SDF: Macross 5) Mac Plus (I might rank this higher if everyone didn't look like elves) 6) Mac7

Definitely a little less stoked on this toy now. I expected some shenanigans with GERWALK although I'm bummed to have those fears confirmed. Additional battroid tweaks? I'll just have to hope for the best.

Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
jenius replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's just so bizarre to me for the following reasons: 1) Shadow Chronicles. They claim it was really successful... yet they didn't do a second episode. They said "Hey, if it's successful there will be more" but there wasn't. Then they said "RT:LAM" would conflict so we're holding off. Well, now it seems like RT:LAM will never happen so why aren't they doing Shadow Chronicles #2? Isn't this an admission that Shadow Chronicles one was a failure? If it was a failure, why would we invest in a second project with the same team? 2) There is nothing about what the show would be on the page (at least not when I looked). If you want me to invest, what's the pitch? Right now the pitch is literally "It will be called Robotech!" which is probably the worst pitch ever. What about this show will make it work? 3) $500K is essentially investment chump change. How were they not able to secure that kind of money from traditional avenues? Well, I think #s 1&2 might actually be the answer to that. At this point they should let RT be what it is and try a new project and call it "the spiritual successor to Robotech" so people will know it won't have any of the mechs or characters (since they only have a smattering of rights to those any way).- 2025 replies

Academy? Does not sound appealing. Also, they made Shadow Chronicles... how was that not the pilot for the new series?- 2025 replies

I'm a conspiracy nut but i think this long lull in VF-1 releases means we'll be getting a NEW VF-1 toy from someone...

Is it just me or is there a little bit of green tint to the gray pieces? Obviously beautiful work again.

Yes, the T-Rex VF-1 option parts began their lives as WF exclusives IIRC. The problem with this, as others have pointed out, is that Arcadia won't be picking these up because Arcadia won't be getting the Frontier license. Bandai also won't pick this up because they go to an Arcadia toy. So, this looks to be a WF only item. Doesn't mean it won't show up at lots of WFs though.
-
Aren't WF licenses for like 20 items or less? I don't think a group buy is likely.

I'd be down for a retelling of space war 1 as well but I would worry that a different perspective on those events would be really tricky for an entire series. It seems like too much of the war's progression is dependent on the actions of the protagonists from the first series. I would also wonder if a move like that would tweak all our timelines as we know them. Would the ASS-1 crash in 2020?

Here's the quote from my review, when I review this new version I'll have lots of measurements and math to satisfy future curiosity.

Were the kids faces blurred out when that originally aired? It makes it kind of creepy. I also like the early Megatron.- 18067 replies

Here's the art from the first special version... I'm pretty sure there's just one special version. I think there's also only one "normal" release and it has eyes.

Sorry, was going off memory, devil Sheryl makes more sense.

When going Bandai DX you want to start with a 'renewal' version VF-25 or any of the YF-29 toys. Check out anymoon.com (my review site) and surf around. For each toy you pick I generally list all the releases, release dates, and MSRP.

You got it right LSB. The one with the character art (devil Ranka) also had a display stand and fancy box and cost more. Both are pretty hard to come by at the moment, maybe this third release will help stock resurface of the plain version.
