I don't think Lucas should be characterized as being baffled by Fett. Before ESB he made an animated special featuring Fett to make him seem cooler than he was in the show. He wanted Fett to be liked.

You heard from a random person on the Internet something that is unsubstantiated. It seems very unlikely that Sony will do anything with their rights but they still have the rights and they still COULD do something. It's moot anyway, regardless of what Sony does or doesn't do, HG has the rights from Tatsunoko to keep on keepin' on.

Since it wouldn't be recognisable as Robotech, it could just as easily be great as awful. A scifi Mecha film centered around the idea of humans using forbidden alien technology to overcome the aliens who come looking for it. There might be some names you recognize but that's about all of Robotech that would have survived into the film.

Frank Agama had been investigated and even found guilty of some misbehaviour but for the most part he operated when people were less savvy about media rights which allowed him to take advantage and score some huge wins. HG isn't really breaking laws, they were taking advantage of awfully written contracts (what they have always done) and the recent spat of lawsuits help draw boundaries where they had previously been refuted.

Oof, I had forgotten about the ride armor.

You're forgetting Nora! I'd rather see a VT-1 before a brownie.

No, the claw connects to that.

I don't know what "smexy" means but I think I agree... I also think it's only a matter of time before the word "smexy" winds up in a Taco Bell advertisement. And I will PO the PF 0D so hard.

HG has always used the 'merchandising' ability of their license as an ability to infringe on BW's IP (video games and comics). Since they've gotten away with it this long, there's nothing BW can do to stop them. That said, a movie is definitely NOT merchandising to support the original animation so even that wonky new comic series hits too close to home to serve much basis for a movie. It all makes sense anyway, why would the world's first transformable fighter jet be based on an F-14? No, if Sony made a movie, the VF-1 will look either super futuristic like nothing we have today OR like a futuristic F-35. Chances are it would have a Bayformers transformation to it BUT, since HG has access to Mospeada without a hiccup, they could call the first transformable fighter the "Alpha" and make it a transformable F-35 that uses a transformation much closer to the Legioss. I think it's funny just how bad Robotech's story is if you step away from it, and how it could have been a lot cleaner if it were its own beast instead of a smashing together of three separate shows, and yet people seem to be bummed by the idea a movie wouldn't be faithful to it.

I was thinking the same thing. Glad the DX VF-1S was pay up front so November won't decimate the wallet as hard.

I think you misunderstood what the proposed Robotech movie would be. It was never going to be Macross the Movie. This would have zero impact on the proposed Robotech movie that will only use names unique to Robotech, have all new Mecha, and have a story line that only touched on a few elements from Robotech. Sony was planning on making a generic scifi Mecha movie and calling it Robotech.

Good bye Gameboy!

I was surprised by how much bigger the base is over the Yamato stand, it had a nice footprint.

Man they can take their time... every month seems expensive right now!
-
My stand arrived a day earlier than expected with no DHL texts which was a surprise. Box wasn't the thickest but mine was fine.

Have you considered a model 3? Where I live, they are the it car.

We don't know the term. The Robotech folks are saying "another 35 years" but that's not really saying the contract specifies that length of time. The contract that was 'renewed' likely is much more significant than the original, completely open-ended contract that was so vague there were two court cases needed to clarify it. It's possible there's a 'use it or lose it' clause to it, I think that's how Kenner lost the Star Wars license. Basicallly, HG needs to provide at least $X in revenue to Tatsunoko each year. If revenues to HG are less than that, then HG needs to come out of pocket to pay the difference. The problem is there's no way for things to revert back to BW which is the only way any of this gets truly solved.

One day I'm going to do a huge and thorough review of the Votoms DMZ toys. So far I've only dabbled in getting Votoms on my site, creating pages with the first toy of various lines for the most part. The next time a recession hits and there's no new Macross or Mospeada products coming out every month, I'll pull out the Votoms toys... if it's a long enough recession, I may even get a chance to dust off the Patlabor collection.

The DMZs? They're definitely really nice and the later ones even have articulated hands... I haven't handled my DMZs in forever but I liked 'em a lot.

I watched Shining Heresy finally. I really think Votoms was better just as a TV show. Every OVA and sequel (or prequel) either over does the invincible thing or just fails to add anything noteworthy. Some are great Mecha porn at least.

Yeah, I think the only 'domestic' seller we would see of high-end Macross stuff would be the big online retailers like Amazon and all the shops you can grab Transformers from. I guess I could see Hi-Metal R stuff more readily available IF there was new Macross on the air that went along with it.

Pocahontas sure seems likely and maybe some of the older ones. Disney animated folk tales so did they ever have 'new ideas'? I think that was Pixar's territory.

The original listing looked more like a wish-list item than something that was even in development. It may take a while before there's any clarity.
