  1. Sooooooo what is exactly going on? Is Desler pretty much lighting the match on the justification of the Nebula Empire to go to war with Gamalas (and thus endanger Iscandar in the crossfire/The nebs looking at Iscandar as easy pickings)?

Honestly, I'm rather keen to tackle the section in the VF-0 book that talks about the restoration of a pair of VF-0s that someone dug up at Edwards AFB in 2019.

From a quick skim, it seems like the New UN Government recovered five wrecked VF-0A airframes from Edwards that were shot down during the events of Macross Zero, and the staff at Shinsei Industry decided to work off-the-clock to do a full/proper restoration job on the two of them that were intact enough to restore.

If that story is 'cannon', why did they not actually talk to the Zentradi Fleet? Is it a prime directive gimmick? Or just a major bought of preservation because they think the Zent fleet will just go rambo on any aspect of the NUNS because of existing Protoculture Rules? Could they not absorb them into the NUNS?

I saw that too, but it was given the, again, vague title of Commander of the NUNS so I felt it worth mentioning.

So, maybe there is a head honcho, on Earth. But does he/she have any authority over existing colonies or deployed Emigration Fleets? This is like Star Wars or Battle Tech: The Big Cheese's influence only reaches so far... (or in Battle Tech's case, Terra's authority doesn't quite reach the Periphery nations)

The Godzilla figures in the SH Monsterarts line get some discussion in the SH Figuarts/D-Arts/Monsterarts thread, but doesn't look like there's much discussion of the NECA stuff (although there's plenty of discussion on their Aliens and Predator stuff).  So I decided to look for a Godzilla thread, and I found one for this movie, the 2019 KotM film, the 2014 Legendary film, two for Shin Godzilla, one for Final Wars, and even one for Godzilla 1985/The Return of Godzilla.  Just a thought, but maybe we should just have one Godzilla superthread?

Anyway, I was at Target yesterday and I saw they have some new NECA Godzilla releases.  Unlike the blister packages they used to have at Target these ones are in nicer window boxes, with movie poster cover flap.  I picked up the last remaining Shin Godzilla, and I gotta say that I'm pretty pleased with it.  Now, this is the only NECA Godzilla figure I own, and I can't directly compare it to an SH Monsterarts Shin Godzilla.  The only SH Monsterarts figure I have is the 2019 KotM version.  And here's the thing, I think the articulation, the sculpt, and the paint are definitely better on the SH Monsterarts figure.  But the NECA Godzilla figures look like they're under $25, and SH Monsterarts look like they usually retail for over $70.  While I think the SH Monsterarts are probably worth a premium over a NECA figure, I don't think (for me at least) they're really worth triple.  So I think I might sell my SH Monsterarts 2019 Godzilla and pick up a few more NECAs.  I think right now my biggest complaint with the NECA line is that while they have several different Godzillas and some of the other monsters from KotM they don't have more of the Toho Kaiju.  I'd love to have all three Mechagodzillas, Space Godzilla, a '90s King Ghidorah and Mecha King Ghidorah, '90s Mothra, '72 Gigan, and '04 Gigan at the minimum.

So are we to assume there was no law breaking going there?

I would imagine that permissions, when properly requested, can be allowed or authorized under very specific terminology (all happening off screen in the ether of speculation). Perhaps with back-ups and self-destruct means outside the control of the AI object in question?

2205....PLEASE BE GOOD!!!!  One thing I really liked about 2199 was that larger capital ships like SBY didn't turn on a dime or maneuver quickly.  Because it was slow and lumbering, it preserved the illusion of being a massive warship....well, space battleship.

Hell, even the main turrets didn't move quickly (something the movie failed at).

I almost lost it when it fired conventional rounds, so awesome watching those giant fireballs erupt from those guns.

I want to feel that magic again.

and being able to fire ballistics saved them (since firing energy-based weapons disperse in the warp ether). My question is: Did the 2202 Cosmos Navy have any ability to fire ballistics or did they embrace the rapid-fire beam gig entirely?

  8. In my headcannon, when listening to Metallica's To Live is to Die & Dyer's Eve, I always slip into a Story where a massed fleet of from Star Wars, Star Trek (TNG era) Macross II (LA) and 1970's Yamato II muster to retender honors to a destroyed SDF before the entire fleet making a Star Wars RotJ attack against a Gol Boddole Zer-class Mobile Fortress, with a pair of VF-2SS's making the final blows. Looking at those pics of the Yamato-classes next to a NX-01? OMG, the feels!

back to the latest 2205 clips, I am SO stoaked! Now i know very little of the original Dark Nebula 3rd season (It wasn't aired in my local area when i was growing up) but I get very familiar vibs... Oh to be a fly on the wall, watching Starsha reacting to the apparent invasion of Gamalas...

That's some of the key points, but Snake wasn't exactly special ops.

Technically, Snake and Storm Shadow were part of the same LRRP (Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol) team back in 'Nam (along with Stalker, one of the OG GI Joe members).

Snake gets shot on patrol, but is saved by Storm and survives with no other injuries.

Then all the bad luck starts (Hence, his code name, Snake Eyes):

    • His parents and sister are killed in a drunk driver accident, while driving to the airport to pick him up (just after coming home from 'Nam).
    • After mourning their deaths, Storm Shadow invites Snake to train with Storm's ninja family, but then tragedy and death strike.
    • One of their ninja masters is killed, and Snake Eyes believes Storm did it (Storm supposedly aiming for Snake Eyes but killing the master in the process).
    • Gets his face burned and vocal chords cut while saving Scarlett from a crashing helicopter they were in.
    • Though injured like frak after the copter crash, elects to continue with the mission and forego any medical treatment.

Now, I wouldn't expect a movie to follow all of these beats to a tee (or all the crazy links to Cobra with these tragedies).

BUT I would hope a film would hit the "Good military dude who keeps getting bad breaks in life, but still keeps moving forward and completing the mission" that's absolutely CORE AND CENTRAL to Snake Eyes' character.

    Oh well. <_<

I'm obviously NOT gonna see this but i have two initial thoughts on the direction this movie apparently goes.

    1) They couldn't use the original Marvel Comics OG (in the same reason why the previous decade The Micronauts comic reboot couldn't use any storyline aspects from the 80's Marvel storyline: No legal access because of contract limits, etc.)

    2) They chose the direction they did because of not wanting to annoy any countries that might be possible venues for this movie because of elements of the Viet Nam war used in the Marvel GI Joe storyline. Generally speaking, they went the path of least resistance to $$$

  10. This came across my feed yesterday and i watched (the clip art!) and while reading the subtitles, it occurred to me. Quazam states that one of his gunner's is due to RETIRE (an otherwise significant plot hole in the perceived society of the Zentradi). Retirement? Obviously, at the time, the whole concept of the Zentradi wasn't at the Mass Produced Disposable Soldier wasn't a thing yet (probably) so what was Retirement to a Zentradi? As is? Honorable suicide? Solent Green? or something else entirely, themed from 1981 Japanese society itself?

So the oranged-capped BC and a slightly different BC.... One being a drone, persumably and the other the C3 Master node (blatant Battletech reference)? So seeing a pic of Starsha means there is a firm reason why at least some of the post 2202 ships that survived their trials with the Galantis Empire will have Butt Plugs on their WMG's. I had imagined she would be rather cross with the Terrans...

I've been watching these types of compilations lately and having watched to death many specific episodes of 2199 (enough that Crunchy Roll probably knows when i leave work) i'm curious about the difference in voice actors (the obvious and not so) and what people's opinions are? Who does it better? Who sounds more... into it, when they did their time in teh booths...?

Well, if you were expecting us to shout "Burn the Heretic!" you're probably going to be disappointed.  Wrong fandom for that, after all.

It's perfectly fine if some Macross titles aren't to your taste.  Everyone is different.

I would note that Macross Plus is more popular with western fans than Japanese ones.  It got kind of a lukewarm welcome when it came out in Japan, in no small part for the reasons you didn't much care for it.

Shoji Kawamori is credited as its designer in the game.

Scramble Valkyrie is... well "non-canon" isn't quite the right word, but it's not part of the official Macross setting and chronology... a game that came out in late 1993, during the runup to both Macross Plus and Macross 7.  About a year after Macross II: Lovers Again was completed.

While Shoji Kawamori wasn't directly involved in a lot of Macross development for a few years there, Studio Nue worked on several Macross video games including FamilySoft's trilogy and Scramble Valkyrie and created several new/original designs like the VF-1SOL series from Scramble Valkyrie, the VF-X3 Medusa, LDR-04 Maverick, QF-9iE Ghost, and SDP-1 Stampede Valkyrie.

When did they start working on Macross Zero and did they (almost intentionally) use the SOL as the template for the Zero? I literally see the Zero in that image (although i guess the height of the Zero was not just a IG reason but something required by the manufacturer of any toys)...

Anyone have an idea where it's from? Head looks kinda small in relation to the body...

That's certainly new to me. I would dare say that the mecha to the left is a Spartan (and maaaaaaaybe a Regult to the right). I've only seen break down-in-action pose of the VF-1J in both Fighter and Gerwalk modes (the one Battroid break-down is straight ahead with not much posture)
