  1. This. At a glance, this appears to be a fan version of SBY 2199 Episode One (an actually good re-telling of it) but there are parts that are clearly added to the story (side expressions from other crew members especially). What exactly does that add to the story telling? If someone could cliff notes a translation, i would love to know, as i was very intrigued by the whole effort...

Given, but berthing for 5000 people, maybe double the number of aircraft loadout of Nimitz, and a lot less onboard fuel storage necessary still leaves a large amount of extra room in a Prometheus proportionally compared to said Nimitz. Which is used for… what, other than more people and more FutureTech equipment? Cargo?

*Grins* G.S.E. All those nice planes (both the transformers and not) need Aircraft Jacks (both tripod and Axle), Hydraulic Power Supplies (probably two different models that use two different types of hydraulic fluid for both those Transformer and not), Engine removing trailers (maybe we're lucky and its a common model used on a variety, like the 4000 Trailers used on anything that isn't a F/A-18 or a F-35. Unlucky? The Macross version of a ETU-110 for each different model supported), Nitrogen and Oxygen Service carts, Ground Power carts, Air Start Carts, Air Conditioner Carts, Tow bars and Pushbacks/Tugs, slings for those planes, specialty GSE exclusive to certain models (or even S/Ns) of embarked Aircraft... Did i mention Forklifts and Man Lifts? B-4 Maintenance Stands?

and that's just AIMD assets. Weapons Department has their own small trailers for weapons (AIMD GSE would provide any lifting equipment, like hoists). and maybe Cargo, stacked at one end of the bay (like spare engine cans)...

Noooooo, no i don't miss the boat. It's just fun thought experiments that i'll talk about with a therapist at the VA... 😅

  3. (Yes, i understand that clevit that That info is highly suspect and now disproven)

I literally snorted hard at the notion of 22,000 People on the Prometheus. Then my mind started working on this...

Ok, let's play a game. Let's assume that the Ship's Company is 1/2 of that number (11,000)

    Departments on the Prometheus:

    1. Deck Department
    2. Air Department
    3. Engineering Department
    4. Reactor Department
    5. Supply Department
    6. AIMD
    7. Weapons Department
    8. Combat Systems Department
    9. Navigation Department

Maybe i'm missing something but that's the generics that i can think of. I cannot think of the exact composition of each department, in terms of how BM's in Deck, How many ABH's, ABE's or ABF's in Air, etc but by merely dividing 11k by 9 departments, you have get a command with over 1200 sailors per Department. I'll even make this thought process even worse

    AIMD: Divisions

    1. Maintenance Admin
    2. Quality Assurance & Main Production Control
    3. N/A
    4. Power Plants
    5. Airframes
    6. Avionics
    7. Weapons (repairs of weapon systems, not ordinance storage)
    8. Paraloft (aka PR Shop)
    9. GSE

Now each department has 1200 sailors. In this thought process, each Division in AIMD has 135 sailors. That's 45 sailors on Days, Nights and Mid shift ashore, 67 sailors on Day or Night shift underway. IN RL, a typical AIMD might have 1/2 of those numbers in total employment. I totally was giggles trying to imagine what morning muster would be like on the Prometheus with that many sailors (and that's not even mentioning The Airwing population. Clearly the 22,000 was a slight miscalculation of the numbers because all i could think of was how many folks would have to hot bunk in order to be able to sleep in their racks....?

Bonus giggles: Assuming 4 section Duty, each deployed combined Duty Section musters 5500 sailors. that's literally the norm # of sailors on a typical Nimitz-class...

Going by context, it would seem that the engineering crew member either didn't do something correctly, like failed to follow engine starting procedures, or perhaps they didn't perform the necessary maintenance beforehand?

You could always fault the trainers for that. I suspect alot of changes have occurred on Yamato (enough to make even seasoned flops feel challenged)... but

Yeah, though when all is said and done the difference between the two seems to mostly come down to the quality and professionalism of their troops.

Xaos is amateur hour.  They're unprofessional.  Uncooperative.  Even sloppy.  Their recruitment standards are low and their forces are full of troops whose personal problems led them to quit the New UN Forces.  They even tolerate downright insubordinate behavior and unnecessary risk-taking from their troops.  They don't properly vet their equipment.

By comparison, SMS are consummate professionals.  Their soldiers are well-drilled, efficient, and motivated.  Recruitment standards are high, with troops recruited away from the New UN Forces, who quit the New UN Forces on principle, or who were drawn from top level pilot trainees in vocational programs.  They work well in concert with the New UN Forces and on their own.  They get better results than Xaos with less powerful or expensive equipment because the quality of their soldiers is so much higher.

Basically, you get what you pay for... if you cheap out, you suffer the consequences of having cheaped out.  IMO, it's worth more in the long run to spend more and have the peace of mind of a job done well instead of cheaping out and having to clean up the resultant mess.

Those troops didn't quit the NUNS, they were either kicked-out outright as BCD 'winners' or simply denied the opportunity to reenlist (Nah, dawg. We can keep your billet empty. Even IF your presence was needed, it isn't wanted). That's for the enlisted side. The officers, either they were cashiered out or forced to resign (because they would NOT promote them).

Or, as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has it...

There is one thing we're forgetting: What time is it, depends on where you are in the Galaxy. I'll explain, in Real World terms...

What IF, in every colonized system humanity spreads to, you put a Overtech Web & Hubble Satellite in space and start mapping space, from the perspective of 'What Time is it?' at any particular W&B Sat placed. Can we agree that eventually, someone is gonna start noticing massive Zent (or presumed) fleets out there that was busy taking a pitstop somewhere and somewhen (since everything else outside of fold navigation is speed of light limited).

Thank you, this pic is epic. I'm extremely curious for this season (can we call it that?) as i know so little of the original (although 3 seasons were aired in some parts of the US in the late 70's, only Iscandar and The Comet Empire seasons were aired on local TV in Cleveland in 1979 +/-).

  8. Ok, I'll ask: Is Invid99 another account of Brofessor? This autistic obsession with an IP that we celebrate when we get to piss on, is quite... odious. I'll admit its good popcorn discussion but in the end, i'd rather discuss things like.... anything BUT Robotech.

    and Merry Xmas, everyone.

I think it's COVID+we're superfans living a bubble, thinking that Macross Plus is gonna sell out the house. It's not. Especially not with the minimal amount of advertising it got; I found out mostly by accident, and I follow the official Macross account and @giantrobo on Twitter, but that's beside the point. I think some of us are overestimating the reach of Plus, as good as it is.

Anyway, the script is a refined version of the BD English subtitles, and yes, it's "Marge" in the script they used. The script also needed better QC, because I picked up on at least two grammatical errors, maybe even some others I forgot about between all the teeth grinding I was going through during the screening. I wouldn't expect anyone to use the old Manga/Nadelman script anymore, likely due to licensing reasons - that ship has sailed. You can always download it from the 'net and roll your own custom BD IMG or MKV. ;)

I also very immediately noticed all of the additional garbage "pew pew" laser effects and such, evoking very terrible memories of the old Rhino re-releases of Transformers where they had to add a shitty sound effect to every single thing. And the sound mix was terrible, absolute crap. The voice and BGM balance was way off, with the voice often completely overpowering the music; this was most apparent during Information High - you could barely hear the music! Awful. I also noticed the "noise" / "toys" echo thing during Information High, and I'm pretty sure it was an intentional change to the sound mix. Why would they do this?

I hate being so negative about this, but with the sound mix being so bad and the dodgy subtitles, I probably should've just stayed home and watched the BD. Would've saved ten bucks.

Someone elsewhere mentioned How movie/TV credits are dished out on re-releases (often changes being intentional not to improve the IP but to ensure the artist/technician/writer gets "credit" thus gets a paycheck) somewhere else. Perhaps the changes were cause 'celebration' just for a paycheck?

Thank you for this: My kid was a few minutes late so we didn't sit down until Isamu just launched into the air... I would say there was about 10 peps at the Southpark Mall Cinemarc in CLE... and i was the only one HOLDING a VF-11B (in fighter mode. man, that was bitch to transform from Battroid. and yes, my Wife made fun of me bringing to the theater, LOL).

    thoughts:

    Spoiler

One thing they fixed (a rather easy fix) was Isamu's injury at the end. In the original movie edition, because they added the scene with the HUD destruction and Isamu, bleeding from his forehead, the later scene shows no injury (because the HUD scene was movie, no OVA4). They fixed it for this sitting.

    Spoiler

I think, not 100% on this, they changed/corrected something at the start of the ambush scene, the weapons fire looks new. I could be wrong,

    Spoiler

, but the beams looked very, very thin and far more coverage as they crossed above the YF-19 as it was still rising

    Spoiler

Lots of translation changes, many for the better... it would be very interesting to find out the discussion path in how or why they decided on the words they used. "Water under the Bridge" was certainly a unexpected phrasing...

Still, it was enjoyable to watch with my kid (we never see him unless he needs something washed)...

  11. Thank you for verification but i am still curious: The person mentions the Tipped Up nose to explain the reason... could there be a connection?

After Googling some random images of the retired F-111 (because i have never personally seen the aircraft unless it was passing though Sigonella Italy in 1992, post Desert Storm), I wonder what exactly does that dude mean? Other than VG wings, there is almost nothing in common with the VF-1, visually. The aircraft was recently retired (when viewed through the lense of Macross) in 1998 so I would imagine it being pressed back into emergency service for the Anti-UN War but not in any naval-based combat setting...

  12. A couple days ago, on a Youtube thread about the F-14, the topic took a swing on macross and the VF-1's formation being derived from the F-14.

" @Teh PW  *coughs Shoji Kawamori based the design of the VF-1 on the F-111 (the tipped up nose is the giveaway)"

Now i was both mildly annoyed and yet curious (because i didn't view the comment as a attack) because i never heard this before... is there any truth to this comment?
