No growlers... and no GSE, either. No hummer parked in the pack forward of the Lel-1, no H-60. That's a ridiculous clean hangar bay... You can't even see the f*cking Jack Tester that would be hidden in that sea of black waaaaaaaay in the background of the Bay-1. Seriously, they must have CGI'd the non-skid. you could scrub the deck for years and it would still look like sh*t unless you just applied it. :D

  2. It took a bit for me to accept the VAs for the dub... but they work for me. I especially enjoyed the gamelan VAs. When Domal is introduced, they did that initial speaking in Gamelan verbiage only switching to English later. I wonder if the VAs where smiling when they said "Flatten them!" in German?

Ok. THAT trailer did at least get me somewhat pumped for one reason and one reason ONLY. JOHN FREAKIN WILLIAMS Duel of The Fates Version whatever this would be!  Soundtracks count for a lot in Star Wars and let's face it, other than Ray's them in TFA, there hasn't been anything else I remotely remember from Ep 7 & 8.  I do remember back  when the soundtrack for Ep 1, 2, and 3 came out, I bought the CD's and played them in my car and at home all the time. Arguably, they could be called the best thing about the prequels IMHO. When Darth Maul lit up his double bladed lightsaber and that track dropped,  I admit, I was 10 years old again in the theater that day and loved it!

I noted that back when I came out of the theater from watching Ep7: The music was extortionarialy forgettable.

I liked Beyond. IMOHO it was a fun movie. Sure, they went right back to the 'maniac wants to destroy Earth' scenario (which has been dipped into once too many times) but it was good despite that. ItD really sent too much of a sour aftershock though. Trying to remake TWoK was the worst decision ever!

Have the next movie be about exploration and get it as far away from Earth as possible. And give Captain Pike a series!

I was thinking about this when I had like 0.3 seconds to glance at my phone... OK everyone rips how JJ screwed the pooch by reinacting WoK's Spock's death with Kirk... I wondered... what IF it was Pike who sacrificed himself in the Warp Core chamber (in effect, resulting in the same circumstances that rendered him a quadriplegic in TOS)? Would that have been a better visual (maybe it being Kirk who rages after Kahn)?

I don’t know.  Can’t help but feel that public spectacles like this and his tendency to embarrass himself these days may eventually make any production he was involved in more and more problematic to certain companies to host.  Granted, SDF Macross may as well been just another job, he did the voice for the male lead.  And this is also a precarious time for HG as well with the license and whatever plans they have for the franchise.

Here's a cheery thought: Maybe if HG keeps getting mentioned in media (as well as a brief explanation why) might finally work in our collective favor to permanently discredit HG?

I'd be curious about that as I can't find it anywhere and the only legit streaming source for SDFM recently was Amazon, and it was the unrestored version.  Of course RT had remaster on there.

I am curious. Although I am sad that VM is involved (of the two major Trek Fan Film series Before Axanar, Star Trek Continues was arguably the better effort... but I still love World Enough and Time), *shrug* all the good ones... are sh*t. Explain the problem, please? I'm not sure how HG follows...?

*B.A. which is how I refer to fan films before they were placed forever in prohibition by CBS...

  7. Good lord. Should we come up with a list of Future Events that have already branched off into their individual alternate timelines? I'll start.

In 1982, someone farted* wrong in japan causing world timeline to split in two (or three, see below). One timeline is what you are in now, the second one being that leads to the events known as Macross SDF (The 3rd timeline, of course, being Macross: DYRL).

    * Yes I know it can be argued to infinity to what exactly caused the deviance of timelines.

What @DewPoint said... I'm pretty sure the reason Gundam fans so often side with the Char clone has an awful lot to do Gundam's writers march in lockstep with the franchise's tired formulae that stifle any protagonist character development by making them either a naive, introverted whiner with genetic godmode cheats (e.g. Amuro, Kamille, Judau, Banagher, or anyone in SEED) or a clinical psychopath all but incapable of feeling or understanding basic human emotion (e.g. Setsuna, Mikazuki, Heero, Io).  In either event, they're usually just the boring invincible hero... which makes the villains oddly sympathetic since they get all the character development and have to fight the boring invincible hero without cheats.

Star Wars fans identifying with the Galactic Empire or the First Order is much less explicable.  Both the Empire and the First Order are literal faceless evil most of the time.  Their troops are disposable anonymous masked grunts who unquestioningly commit acts of heinous villainy and excessive violence seemingly for no reason other than the jackbooted thugs in the upper ranks want to make sure they fill their monthly heinous villainy quotas even if what they're doing makes no strategic or political sense.  Their leaders are also masked men, very obviously unstable masked mystic warrior monks who are so comically unsuited to leadership that their forces become substantially less effective whenever they happen to be around thanks to the interrelated problems of their unreasonable demands, their obsession with immediate results at any cost, their temper tantrums, and their knee-jerk tendency to murder whoever happened to be in charge during the temper tantrums they throw after not getting their way.  The jackbooted functionaries in the middle are more or less the boss from the movie Office Space, except he's asking if you've finished murdering those children instead of filling out your TPS reports.  There's nothing remotely likeable or relateable about them... which makes it really weird and slightly unsettling that so many Star Wars fans seem to prefer them over the protagonists.  They're every bit the pack of literal space nazis that the Principality of Zeon are, and even more unsympathetic since they don't even really have a theoretically noble-sounding cause to pay lip service to while committing their atrocities.

(Well, at least before this latest crop of even more hopelessly unlikeable protagonists anyway... fans aren't so much cheering for the First Order as they are cheering against the Resistance.  Like how footballs fans here say "my favorite teams are Michigan and whoever's playing Ohio State".)

Michigan still sucks... (per 92.3 The Fan, usually restated around 1845 hours during the work week).

I'm surprised you compared 1940's german military to the FO... which is true, I guess. It does show the lack of imagination of Jar-Jar-A. You would think, if they FO was soo fool of idiots they would lose... but the Resistance seemed to be filled with R-people so unlikable that we ended up root for the enemy for lack of better choices. The Sequels: So much wasted material (the dumb R-leader's hyper ship ramming would have been so much better done in Ep 9 (as the dramatic last resort) instead of this idiotic Slow Speed Space chase (the dumb ass who directed ep8 just looked at The Chase is On! on Youtube, watched a couple LA police chases on the 405 Freeway and thought 'Hey, that would look cool with space ships, LOL?')

not even gonna mention all Social Justice WoK divel. To be honest, I don't even understand all of that to the point that it's meaningless to me as a adult. [/Rant: OFF]

Man.... That was really disappointing. I wanted to like it. I was hoping it would be good, I kept hoping it would be good, and then it ended and it wasn't. It was just kind of... bland. Normal. Unsurprising. Run of the mill.

I dunno. It just feels like the writers or director(s?) or whoever just completely forgot the kind of character that Joker should be and gave us a story that built some guy up to become... some guy, but more violent. Like, I'm all for original takes, and again, I was really looking forward to this, but nowhere in this did I feel like any of the ideas that make up the collage of the Joker take shape, and those ideas that replaced them were way less interesting in every single way.

we must have seen two different versions of the film. I had literally in a death grip with my wife's hand (totally LOL'd at me). Its all about symbolism with this movie. more to the point is was less about backstory for BaTman's greatest foe, than a story about just how we as a society create the very threats that we fear, private or public: The Mentally Ill.

Now once the rioting reaches crescendo (and the ending begins), then it starts to cross that line into meta~DC universe... but take away ANYTHING batman... you have a story that chaotics of any alignment cheer and most of the Lawfuls have pursed lips in concern (Lawful Evils, being practical beings, speculate how they can make this work, still)...

personally speaking, if this film does not earn at least ONE Oscar next year, it'll be a disappointment.

Hmm, might that be interpreted to mean that the movie is behind schedule freeing up Kenji Yasuda's schedule up to go find other work?

If so, that's a bit disappointing.

Shouldn't we be using the 2205 thread? it already exists a couple pages down?

I came across this on UN SPACY's FB page (they are Spanish-based language, I believe in Chile?) ["Nunca esta demás compartir el sitio oficial de MACROSS."] and I got the impression they said that this Macross Portal only mentions Delta materials now (and no other Macross properties). Unless the link is incorrect, is their comment true?
