  1. Well, Zappan is still alive. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have him as the bad guy in the second film... The question is, how would they end it? The original book ends with the space-station side of Zalem turned into a Flower...

but the goings on of Last Order.... seems way too political and complex for a 3rd movie (a multi-year Netflix show, on the other hand?)

Lol. You may be right. At this point, in what we've been shown, it's certainly of No importance to the writers. I can't imagine ,now, where they're going with the rest of that story line..

I think it best that they drop that thread and pursue  a new story within the Macross universe. There's plenty of avenues to explore, without going down that dead end alley and finding nothing but a dumpster fire .

This is my private view on the matter:

    Spoiler

I think its more to do with private shame than forgetfulness. They had so much trouble with SDFM-TV, between internal lawyer infighting in Japan, as well as HG's dishonorable conduct that the very idea of a return (regardless of what The Floating Head publicly says or claims) to post 2012 would never happen "as is". It would always look like either DYRL or 2012 (Never SDFM-TV)

Some of you will disagree but Baka! (Ya'll too stubborn to even consider it)...

btw, not sure if Bandai made a silent update on their options-page, but I don't remember spotting it before...

Its been soooo long since i built the early 2000s Prefect Grade RG-78G (?) but did it have that option to hold its bazooka on its back hip?

  4. On Zent Fems: What would it be if she was, ahem..... THICC?

It's probably Khan Klang I'm thinking off, actually.

o>O Pen you have WAAAAAAY too much time. :D

Alpha Centauri = Rigel Kentarus in the battletech setting. Somewhere along the line, the name has been changed twice (I just can't find a reason why, but it's not without precedent: Carver V = Liberty and the Comstar/WoB Hidden 5)

But that art you did: Screams!!!! :D

  5. Ok.... The Clans... 20? 18? 17?

First off, there's the elephant in the room dressed in grey with a name type that says Joe Smith, Hyperspace Navigator...

The Clans (or ANY BT faction) could NEVER be a threat to a Colony fleet or a colony world because the manner in which BT vessels travel between systems (Jumpships travel between systems, Dropships travel to/from the Jumpships to the planet in question). It would be far too easy for two Gitmo Stealth Carriers to hold both the Nadir and Zenith Jump Points plus a third holding near common L1 points at the colony home world. In order to make the Clans into a viable Macross Protagonist, you need to change the tech used, the methodology in how they get around. To expand this notion of how easy 3 gitmos can hold a system, you only need 6000 Gitmos to embargo the entire Inner Sphere. The notion of the Clans being better bag guys? that's need some proof checking...

Please, MODS: Lock down the thread, because the guy who originally started this thread, hasn't said &^%$ lately about it.

(Plus id like to PUBLICALLY Condemn Sketchy for his very provocative explanation on the Politics involved that we discussed in PM. Excellent response from him and quite surprising...)

While the final acronym is almost certainly for the sake of the aforementioned lame joke, the inspiration is again a LOT more mundane and obvious.

The ARMD-class was originally conceived as a combination of a space station airbase for Valkyrie squadrons in orbit and an Auxiliary Floating Dock for servicing smaller UN Spacy warships (e.g. the Oberth-class).  Its design was inspired by real world Auxiliary Floating Docks (being one turned upside-down), and its hull classification symbol of "ARMD" is inspired by those of the real world mobile Auxiliary Repair Dock (Medium) for servicing destroyers, submarines, and other light escorts which was "ARDM".

yeah, the docks... That seems far more plausible (and gives an excellent explanation to the empty space under the vessel: You park an Oberth in there)...

Ya no aliens in the prison either ,building relays or whatever for the Deathstar dish . Within that context , i can see the Empire is very "human" centric. Somewhat xenophobic. No alien Storm Troopers, ever. It's just taking for granted. As far as the overall story, there's plenty of background aliens. But none that carry on

It's clear as day how the Empire views non-humans just by listening to Dr Mengles talking about the sound clip of Children (alien or otherwise)...

  8. AIMD

    Additive increase/multiplicative decrease - Wikipedia

No, not that (but when i think about some of the places i worked at over my career, maybe some of the other divisions suffered from that)

AIRCRAFT INTERMEDIATE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT (AIMD) (tpub.com)

anyway, that term (AIMD) had to come from a Sailor talking about work in public (because unless someone got to actually visit the Carrier inport at that time, i find it incredulous that the production staff would coin the phrase ARMD out of their butts and literally just a single letter difference).

(Honestly, we'll get back to the Clans soon enough)

  9. So when the concept of Galactic Empire was coined (and i mean the literal Japanese words, not the English translation), they thought about Japanese history when they coined the Protoculture?

    o.O

That could be taken one or two ways (and that distinct leans towards a political discussion, a BIG NO-NO in common discussions) PM Sent, Sketchy.

The latter... with a further caveat.

Not only do we not know what kind of Republic the (Inter)Stellar Republic was (or if it was even truly a republic and not a People's Republic of Tyranny)... it's not always referred to as a Republic either.

Sometimes it's 星間共和国 (seikan kyouwakoku, "Interstellar Republic") and sometimes it's 銀河帝国 (ginga teikoku, "Galactic Empire").  The latter is more common in early works, but Macross Chronicle expressly acknowledges both terms.  It's possible that both are correct and either the government changed its name or those existed concurrently as the two factions in the Protoculture's civil war.

Ok, lets do a thought process on those terms.

    1) WHEN exactly, date wise in production, was the term coined.

    2) How old was the individuals at that time.

    3) How often was regional nations discussed in news (and which ones)?

Mind you, I'm thinking the same thing as how other concepts creeped into the setting (ARMD = AIMD, VF-84's colors at that time). Galactic Empire was a term that was first coined in Star Wars and maybe they used the word as a literal concept?

  11. I'm currently under the weather so i don't feel the urge to verify this but did the Klingon Death Scream originate on TNG early enough that the possibility of it being depicted in VI could have occurred, had the knowledge pass from the TNG film crew to the VI Film crew?

What kind of reaction would 1990 audiences would have to it? (More importantly, what if they intentionally did not do it?)

  12. Seti...

    Spoiler

Syril = Deathstar Resident: that maybe why they intially wanted more than 3 seasons (because then they could film events like that very aspect from SW VI)

    Someone else did a speculation:

    Spoiler

Luthen is a former Jedi (long ago disgraced), that crystal being the crystal placed in his walking stick...

Look to the "Lone Survivor" situation. Four SEALS (Storm Troopers) battled up to 200 armed, combat experienced locals that held the high ground killing approx 50 of them.

I've done a lot of training with SF guys. Their ability to effectively direct violence is terrifying and awe inspiring to see.

Six through twelve Storm Troopers would be absolutely unstoppable against "towns folk" as depicted in the last episode. The town folk would have been slaughtered as fast as the Storm Troopers could pull the trigger.

Storm Troopers have to be neutered for all of the Star Wars stories to happen. That would hold true even if they didn't have armor. Which they do.

The violence has to be neutered, based on the intended audience i.e. Its not Kenner Toys bank rolling the show, its Tacos, cars (and maybe feminine hygiene products)... Could you imagine a R-rated original trilogy (id rather have 1~3 mind you)? Actually rated R WOULD BE more like the Auronauts Trilogy... 😃

  14. Its funny. Is Sebastian's POV of Macross Galaxy possibly based on his own bias (based on his nationality, which might not be Japanese)? Because i do agree with his position that the cyberminds of Galaxy are not even remotely grey with their intent. They were no different from any other fictional (or non-fictional, to which many fictional foes are derived from) human faction with the simple goal of wanting POWER over other humans. That's been the basis of all the major Black Hat factions in Battletech, regardless of who was the Line Lead of the company at the time...

Mods, this might be avery good time to put the cabash on this topic. It has clearly derailed and leaking highly toxic chemicals into all our blood streams...

I don't know about dark undercurrents in his videos, but his stepdaughter committed suicide last year, and his wife filed for divorce this past August. It seems clear he was hurting, but hindsight is 20/20. It's tragic that no one closer to him was able to get through to him.

This comment will be harsh (and quite critical of my fellow 'Muricans very specifically) but i need to get this off my chest:

    Spoiler

BE Grateful that he chose to just take his own life. At the end of the day, it was his choice to use the Self Check-Out Line... because too many crazy, evil, irrational (Take you pick) Americans instead chose to take more than a few toons with them (The latest on my mind, all the poor souls in Colorado Springs from the LGBT+ Community). Like so many celebrities who have made that choice in the past decade alone, at least they died with some vague sense of honor, compared to others who chose infamy through domestic violence... If you are insulted by this line of thought, i apologize sincerely. As I said, harsh and still filled with sorrow (that the distinction has be made at all, when discussing suicide and prevention...)

It's funny: As a Veteran, whenever I make a call to the VA or respond to a call from the VA, the first thing I hear is questions about and the phone number to call, about Suicide Prevention...
