Rumor: Escape From Earth A 'go?'

Yeah live action one. No details though. I think Eric Bana (hulk, chopper movie, black hawk down, munich etc) should be snake if they do it. -

If you start on macross, watch out or you will become a valkoholic and you're wallet will be bleeding. The vf1 market is flooded so there is lots of temptation to make sudden impulse purchases. Can't wait for the yf19 to come out. If we do get alt jets that will probably end up eating into macross stuff. (hopefully the releases are spread apart so I don't miss the stuff I want completely and it becomes a pain to find in future) I'm having trouble finding alts in my local areas enough as it is. Pisses me off to have to look for them. -
Rumor: Escape From Earth A 'go?'

Maybe it's going to be like that stallone movie "first blood". The cops are giving him a hard time and use extreme measures (think the ED209 robot in robocop - the world is overpopulated and prisons are full so cops of the future can kill anyone for any reason they make up, just for looking suspicious ) to take him down, so he has to run from them with only crappy weapons and his wits and skills. Because of all the cameras (it will be a surveilance society)he can't go underground because there are robots searching all over earth for him to catch him. He doesn't want to die, so decides to escape from earth. Maybe he hijack some futurstic spaceplane and avoid all kinds of traps set for him? I think it would be funny. Maybe there are some space-based weapons up there and these end up going out of control and destroying earth in the meantime. (including the people trying to kill him) Ahah I remember that. I watched that about 5 times when I was a kid. I liked the guy with the chinese hat who had those force powers - he was fkin scary. (he could shoot lightning and stuff like the guy from mortal kombat) But that was more like an action comedy. I want something dark and violent and serious. Yeah it can have humor too but you should be scared and feel like what's happening is genuinely dangerous and risky. -

Also a video showing the appliance of fastpacks and securing the backpack while fast packs are on. (pushing it all the way in for robot mode) This way people know what you're talking about if you can show it. Also upload the koenig monster transformation, (that thing is freakin complex) and the GBP door mechanism warning. (when applying the chest missiles)- 1057 replies

What is a good price for SDF:Macross DVD
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to twich's topic in Movies and TV Series
I've heard that some of the sound effects were changed/upgraded in the adv dub too. Like the alien echo is gone. The lasers don't have the classic Pchoo pchoo noise and more like a transformers or starwars type sound. I wish they didn't do that. But one thing harmony gold should have done in the first place for robotech remastered: (like the adv release) is make it so the old and new sound fx were there as an option. Options are always good. -
That's what I'm going to assume. I think it was mainly the robot mode aspect that had to be hidden (the unspacy marking on the gunpod is upside down for robot mode) from the public because it would be too shocking to most people to know there were giants. Links up perfectly with the episode where hikaru is freaked out at th size of them, and roy explains to him "that's why we built these giant robots to fight these giant aliens." He wouldn't have to explian the secret to a civilian if the public were aware. I wonder if shin knew the vf-0 robot mode was also for that purpose or if he just assumed the robot mode was for anti-mecha fighting. (ie they have destroids with guns for arms, and maybe the robot form with humanoid manipulators to hold the gunpod is just a natural exension of that)

I dunno about that MP ultra magnus claim. I've just been watching the TF animated movie: and in that it actually shows ultramagnus in his white color body while he is in alt mode next to kup. But I agree with the point people are making about the BS about so-called claims of MP being "cartoon accuracy"-conscious: If the masterpiece transformers are soooo cartoon accurate, then why the hell weren't people pissed about ultra magnus missing his freakin armor? The froating head can't be blamed for that one.. In fact I would love SK to attempt a ultramagnus in THS complete with transforming armor since I am more likely to buy highly posable, small-scale TF with tons of realistic detail (regardless of whether some detail wasn't shown in the cartoon) Cartoons are full of disapearing parts and stuff which is partly why I was never really that much a fan of them. (as opposed to the concept of the transformation in the toys which is what makes them cool to collect) I just wish they remade the cartoon in 3d CG so people were forced to have to see the ugly kibble that has to be placed somewhere (rather than it conveniently disapearing) -

I'll definately be giving it a chance. I loved the original. I'm a sucker for all the cheesy 80s action movies. It was because there was a time limit that made it such a tense movie. You never knew if he was going to make it back befre that thing went off. I got that same feeling with movies like mad max 2 truck scene where max is trying to drive away and is being attacked from all sides by the gangs to slow him down, and then drops the ammo so it looks like he is a total goner. So long as they can really recreate that "tension" that I remember from those kinds of movies where you are not sure how it ends, then I will be happy. The problem with sequels is if they have too much of the formula and don't add anything unpredictable to keep you guessing, then it just doesn't feel exciting to keep paying to watch and it turns stale. All those movies that make you feel paranoid even after you leave the theatre, those are the ones I like. The reason I can watch movies like diehard and stuff again after all these years is because I think they pit all the odds against the hero in the story. (lack of ammo, shortage of time, rely only on themselves so they can't cheat, is double crossed and has to fight more than one thing, is in actual danger of dying, uses only thier skill to get out of situation, takes a very heavy beating, ...and gets nothing in the end because everything either gets blown up/destroyed, everyone killed, so they walk away a lone wolf not better off than when they started etc) If you like the tough character type movies with a bit of violence (like pitch black or chronicles of riddick), yeah it's worth seeing. The main reason is that Snake = a tough mofo. He takes a crossbow shot in the leg and has to fight all these gangs for his freedom and has to do it all before the foxdie..er whatever the hell it was they injected in him kills him. Sort of like metal gear solid games where snake must go through lots of danger and little chance of success for him to win. The second movie is really a nostalgia thing: you were just happy they made a sequel to a classic movie more than because you thought the sequel was any good. The problem with sequels is they must shine in the shadow of the originals. (rather than being good movies in thier own right, breaking new ground because the majority of people go to see it for the name. So if you see a sequel it might be hard to really apreciate them as a standalone thing) -
Nice group shot you got there. Now if they can just get some green tv qrau (with double-jointed knee articulation and swivel joints for crouching poses) and glaug with a stand to fight against them.. (see if they can pull off a glaug booster attachment with a special stand to support the link up) I also want a stand for the Qrau so I can place it in a fetal position in as if it is launching its micromissiles while floating in space. ..oh and And not have the skull symbol be raised up. (just make that flat)

It's sort of in the intro to macross 7 alot when they do the gundam-esqe jetstream attack manuever. (ok it looks nothing like it but that's what I am reminded of. It looks very dangerous though. Like the guy in the back actually shoots his gunpod while the guy in the front strafes in front of him?... er doesn't look like it would actually be very helpful if you are the guy being shot in the back while it happened..) But yeah you see thier arms folded back instead of hanging off thier sides. Maybe it increases speed by landing in gerwalk that way or something..

That old thing is actually still a pretty decent toy considering the complex transformation and all. The diecast makes it a heavy toy. Mine doesn't suffer from any probs like floppy limbs or parts that look like they are stressed or anything. No loose swivel like the vf0 and nothing in danger of snapping. But when the 1/60 is out, that is so going back in its box to make space for the big guy. Unlike collectors for me its not about trying to cash in or only going for things that are hard to obtain. It's more about the fact that I want the best representation in toy form of the mecha in the show/ova/movie. Then when people who are familiar with the show and see it on display they may want to get one for themselves since they remember how awesome the mecha were in it. The conversion process over to valk collecting starts there and the jealousy of not having it kicks in once they see you transform it before thier eyes. For those who have the loose swivelling vf0s, if you plan on getting multiples of that mecha maybe just have that one in fighter and the improved version in future in battroid? I don't think I'd want my Reactive armor-equiped valk to start flopping around and stuff. Even the 1/48 had its issues with limp wrists which is why people prefer the clown hands when holding the gunpod (unless it is posed holding the thing with two hands) I still hope they com up with a solution for that, as I'm not the biggest fan of yamato chicken hands.
-
The koenig monster looks so mean in videogame form. So graham, if they did the vf22, would they be able to make non-canon variants like they did for vf1 ie low visibility, camo (LVII), stealth, credit card valks? Given how limited the vf22 is in the macross universe (according to the compendium) I think all kinds of paint schemes like stealth scheme would look good for a vf22.

If they were to remake G1 as a cartoon (update everyone's vehicle mode to something more modern, add in more details and make fights more meaningful etc) and give it a darker look and feel to it, (like they did for ninja turtles) I think I would prefer the comic style. By "comic book style" I mean shading and more dull color tone rather than bright and flat shaded anime color. Or just make a CG cartoon about the alternators. -
Might want to see the other thread and post all your impressions and pics in there. I listed all the things I thought were an issue for me. Shoulders are way too massive imo. (the toynami equivalent to yamato's gbp oversized chest )
-
Just make the thread a sticky until the demands are met. Another thing I think they could add to the accessory pack idea: clear fast pack covers. Yeah I would buy all this. damn I almost forgot about that. Since it is similar to vf1 it shouldn't be that hard imo. Yf-19 is way more different and we are getting that.
-
List of things I want to see: -smaller shoulder -legs sit lower down (maybe make the swingbar extendable and collapsible somehow. The yamato yf21 has tow levels of height for example. As a guide make the leg joint meet the middle of the bulge on the fighter's nose) -hinge which is stiffer (add teeth to keep the backpakc in upwards position in battroid. The banpresto one keeps falling down) -Backpack that doesn't stick up in fighter (copy the presto, make some more space for clearance by shaving some fat off the chunky forearm) -better head sculpt on 1S (looks too long) It's too late now but if the get around to newer versions that would be good. Maybe they can even add the airbrake and openable cockpit canopy. (wouldn't be hard imho) What do the robotech.com people think about it?
-
All they would need to do is add little teeth on the hinge to make it stay up. Maybe in the next releases? looking at the forearms again: -less chunky foreams so there is more space for the backpack in fighter would really help. Copy the banpresto. And maybe add a little locking mechanism so you could do barrel rolls. (add a tooth on one of the the backpack hinges for this - so easy.) Would love to see how the fast packs stay up in battroid mode....
-
Yeah that would be a good idea. In it they can then include the side covers for us who don't want to buy a whole gbp to get them. As for clown hands: these should only be included with tv valks. But I figure since tv valks get them as standard, as well as PT chicken hands, it would be fair if the DYRL valks get at least non-posable robot hands. (and perhaps high quality poseable ones for the accessory pack?) But ultimately I wish (lets assume they eventually make a 2 seater valk in future) that all the vf1 had these as "standard" extras. (eventually phasing out the accessory pack as early adopters buy these up and the need lessens in time) Those little banprestos for example gets all the different heads, so I want the same thing to happen with yamatos but for hands.

danth: wait till you get near the end where max gets to go in his vf22 and kick people's ass the old school way. (don't really want to spoil anything but I think it was a tense episode as it looks like a suicide mission) -

Ok but remember how early in the x-men cartoon the x-men were sort of mysterious and nobody knew who they were or whether they even existed. (see the 90s cartoon in one of the early episodes where xaviar talks about this and he is watching the news. Hoping that mutants weren't going to be portrayed as ALL evil, just because of the actions of a few. This shows that mutated people with powers are a NEW thing to the world at large) Maybe it is like that. Sorta like this: xavier has these people educated in his school for gifted kids, but in reality he has them train to fight against evil. (there is an underground base and a war room for missions and all sorts of secret stuff too) They are sort of normal people like you and me and have normal lives, but they are not normal. That's how I like to think of it. The aliens speak and act like humans with thier own personalities but there is that "I must keep a low profile too." The aliens once discovered have to make public appearance in order to not be portrayed as evil to the rest of the world and get a bad rep. Doing all the good deeds is thier way of ensuring people trust them, but that doesn't mean there is not a secret side to them or that while trying to fight evil aliens plotting to kill them off, that they can't keep a low profile. (ie stop megatron on earth from doing whatever he needs to do to defeat the autobots and endanger any humans) So if the bad aliens do try to gain control, (like the rogue mutants that endanger humans) there is at least some group of aliens against them to combat these and act as protectors. It goes back to the idea that the aliens can be heroes but retain some secrecy to do thier work properly. Why do the x-men need to use the blackbird to sneak around for example? I reason that some humans are going to be scared or hate them so it might be better to stay hidden to avoid panic and apply that to alien robots. Whether good or bad, it might just be scary for some to accept they exist, like some being freaked out seeing a car drive itself or a ghost. In the back of thier mind something tells them this is impossible but thier own eyes are saying the ghost or the alien really exists but they have to store it away somewhere to help them deal with what they are seeing. They are alien, they are robots. Normally you would think: Robots can't think, robots can't feel, robots are things you see in a factory that is merely programmed to behave the way man builds them. But these robots are living things that crashed to earth aaages ago and fought wars long before human started to record thier own history. (they were asleep for ages and only woke up in modern time) So the natural reaction is the public would be shocked like when the existence of mutants was discovered with powers in x-men. (controlling weather, magnetism, superhuman strength, psychokinesis etc) If the robots were conscious of this, (us being scared of them) they might want to carry on with thier ancient war without really disturbing the native species and generally paying little regard to us. I mean if there was a war in the forest and you were a soldier for one side, would you actually care what the primitive wildlife (who are scared out of thier wits) are doing? No you would be concentrating on fighting and killing the enemy and battling them on all fronts. Not really studying what the animals are doing unless one of the missions is protecting them. -
Thanks for taking the time out to take some pics of it in various modes and angles. It helps a lot. I think the fighter mode looks the weakest but still miles ahead of the banpresto. I wish that backpack part didn't stick up so high though. That is the one thing I like better in the banpresto in fighter mode. I could have settled for less beefy forearms if it meant that sat lower down. If they get to do some destroids and maybe even attempt a low detail mospeada legioss that would be good.
-
Put it in a display cabinet with the others. Put them in an interesting pose. Put them on a yamato stand in fighter mode. Transform them into various modes for fun. Feel good that you have a variety of different mecha from an old tv series that ordinarily should be dead. Most people were complaining that there is nothing to lok forward to a few years ago. For me I barely touch the koenig monster (way too scared to transform it often) but like to look at it because it is such a mean looking mecha. It beats what I see in most of transformers (who have lots of useless parts hanging off thier bodies) or gundam (not very consistantly good designs) or other robot shows because it melds a bit of realism with a bit of fantasy. I think of the robots as like a piece of art and admire the engineering and imagination that goes into them. They are machines but there is a certain "attitude" to them. (especially in battroid modes. YF21 just plain looks cool as does the yf19. With the vf11 looking awesome in fighter mode) I suppose like any mecha fan, I want the things to be real. So the next best thing is to get small scale toys of them. When you watch what they do in the show, you would understand. Some of my favourite mecha fights happen in the shows the toys are based on. I'm happy there are toys being made of these particular mecha because frankly I think they are such unique designs to begin with that having an accurate perfect transforming 3d representation of them is what any fan of the shows would die for. There is also the appeal is guessing how they transform - it is like a puzzle. I was amazed how complex the transformations of some of the toys are. (transforming my first alternator convinced me to get back into transformers, as one of the reasons I grew out of them was how I had memories of robots that looked horrible from the 80s and didn't resemble the cartoon or match the articulation I expected.)
