  1. maybe it wouldn't be fair that only tv mila and max had them so they thought "may as well let him have it too"? tv Super Valks makes sense as money saving too. Why buy a seperate option kit when you can just let the person decide for themselves whether they want space use valkyrie one for atmosphere? I can totally see the logic for this for gbp too: there might be people who want vf1a gbp for cannon fodders and things you don't see onscreen. (When is yamato going to release orguss valkyrie armor? ) Totally ignoring that in the tv series a character did not use this. When you think about it in the story he wasn't even supposed to be using the gbp so it really makes little difference to the fan. Personally I would like them to do tv roy (no DYRL arms and grey flightsuit) and then a tv vf1s hikaru (again flight suit) with tv fast packs. For a lot of people, maybe it might look different enough to a DYRL roy, but it would be less boring than reissue of something everyone already has. People could then say I own all the tv line: from CF, to max+milia, to Hik 1J with GBP, and true tv roy and hikaru in his prime as skull leader.
  2. That is strange. Given that you see them in the tv series I would have thought they'd give the option for bubble handed robot mode like the CF. I'm so tempted to get a super stealth. Imo its the best of all these new paintschemes.
  3. Looking good. I don't think this thing necessarily will have any kind of balance issue. I bet that it was just posed that way with leg slighty bent back. The size of the feet look like they'd easily keep it steady. So the fat crotch piece and skinny limbs worked out ok after all. "Good enough for a toy"-fighter mode, with "less stress on joints" fine limbs and a "small enough to not break the limp wrist" gunpod were all good decisions. I think this thing will be ultra light just by looking at it. I think the little shoulder armor pieces hanging off the side could be a tad longer so you can see them but I'm happy overall now that Ihave seen it from all angles. Judging by the profile shot, if the nose was any longer in plane mode the boob would be unsightly in battroid mode. Looks like they got just the right balance imo.
  4. Well I am hoping the controls are precise enough for all sorts of games. For FPS for example if they locked the 'look' to the wiimote, (assuming this was the mouselook half of the controls in a fps) you can imagine the headache you get due to all the jitter from not keeping your hand steady. (I;m thinking in future they could just release a stand of some sort?) But it seems just using the wiimote as a pointer works out ok and the looking control goes back to the "push left or right to see left or right" method. (not as good as mouselook in pc fps but I think it would be better than analogue stick for some things like trying to get head shots for example) Order of goodness: 1. Mouse+keyboard 2. touchscreen looking (metroid prime hunters where you have a virtual mousepad) 3. wiimote (redsteel) 4. analogue sticks (you can't make precision shot by focusing on specific areas of a targets body while you and/or them are running around. Trust me it is a pain in the ass even with good controls like that seen in console versions of halo and decent analogue controllers) I think a third party should create a tripod of some sort hehe and what you can do is like put this thing a certain height from the ground, and you anchor that to a spot and then the wiimote would be like a virtual gun that you use to move the camera in the direction you want to look. Some company should try this and make some kind of arcadey fps using it. I'd play it if the control method worked.
  5. Isn't there a character in metal gear solid who is an otaku? "Otacon" He plays the nerdy guy that has to help snake stop the bad guys and is some kind of mecha nut? I would say that in anime the stereotype is this: -has to wear glasses (yang neuman for eg) -no GF or girls find the person creepy -usually always doing something technical and speaking in a languange nobody understands because the person doesn't use layman terminolgy. (this can include esoteric knowledge of obscure anime that isn't mainstream enough to be common amongst normal people) When there are female ones, in hentai for example, they are the computer literate one that reads lots of technical books and is like the sidekick of the main character. The female one wears the stereotypical glasses, is shy, has small tits, (aquarion had a big titted glasses girl though) and is never the courageous one who confronts things head on and is always less athletic and fit than the non-nerdy one. They might also enjoy hobbies that most would find boring and can also be creepy in some evil way. (ie the bookworm/librarian/mad scientist with no morals and an ego that "thinks it is more evolved than other people" character type, and then tries to take out its revenge on everyone using a doomsday weapon because as a kid it was bullied or something ) I only base this from what I see in anime stereotype characters so it might be different idea completely to real ones, as I don't go to conventions and stuff to see them. I think of otaku = generally antisocial people. (you could be fat, skinny, tall whatever. But if you are antisocial in any way the other stuff are just the popular stereotypes that might be common amongst many of them) The thing that makes you an nerd I think is age. So the 6 year old kid who is a fan of the teenage mutant ninja turtles and jumps off a building because it thinks it can survive the fall is safe. But if you are an adult cosplaying as optimus prime and take your fanboyishness of the series very seriously (ie like an addicted drug addict where it interferes with normal parts of your life - see WoW players ) then you would qualify. The otaku doesn't sound all that different to the nerd really. I was thinking of getting one of these. But damn they are expensive. The otaku would probably be using gundam style beam saber variants of these and stuff. Possibly two beam sabers at a time and mimmicking amuro ray and believing he has newtype psychic abilities But having said that: I think once a science fiction movie, book, series becomes too mainstream and popular, the effect of nerd or hardcore fanboy behaviour is lessened a little. Sort of like how you can have a normal guy who likes bikes and rides a harley and dress a certain way but doesn't want you to associate him with the typical bikie gangster. Or a gun nut who is not violent in any way, but who is just passionate about the guns as thier hobby. Now I think it is the same with adult fans of old series. They are just passionate about the series, are fans of it, but not the otaku stereotype. If the series is not mainstream its even harder for that person to explain as an adult to "outsider" why they collect such and such or waste money and time on this or that because it is not "normal". I think that is why people are so self conscious about bringing valkyrie to work because they want to avoid that stigma. If macross was more mainstream, no explanation is necessary, no need to explain why you have a large toy collection of it (assuming you collect toys, not merchandise of the thing you are fanatical about, implying that you are childish for the 'toy' part etc) and people are much more relaxed because they might be familiar with it and think it is actually cool and want to know more about it.
  6. I'm getting a wii for the zelda and metroid games. Zelda looks pretty good if a little GC in terms of graphics. (but that is understandable seeing as it is port from that platform) From what I hear in metroid the sensitivity has been upped (there is an expert mode) for those who want faster turn rate. This is good news for people like me who need fast turning and precision targetting as this is how I am used to fps controls. Although the targetting in red steel seems smoother, sometimes you just want to be able to spin around quickly to see WTF it is that is shooting you and avoid something quickly by seeing it before it can fire away. (ie you actually want to spin your whole body around very quickly not just aim the targeting reticle at something you can just see in your immediate field of vision left/right/above/below you.) The good thing about the price is it ensures that if you want more than one console, (at some point when prices go down I will end up owning all three) you are much more likely to buy it if they have it within the range of the average person. In terms of power it is the least impressive of the three console but hopefully it makes up for that in other ways similar to the DS vs psp in the type of games. (it is all up to the developer and how they tweak the controls for all playing styles as many people think the idea of 3d controller movement is silly) But seeing the videos of people using the controller for the fishing part in zelda I think makes playing a game much more fun and intuitive for a mass audience to get into because it eliminates some of the button mapping memorisation and learning curve that gets in the way of playing a game when you first try it out. And this way you can focus on the skill needed to be good at the task, more than on the early steps of memorising the button mappings and configurations of the controls before actually starting proper. (aiming is such an intuitive thing with a remote. I can see it being better than an analogue stick for most things.)
  7. On further analysis, it really looks nothing like it. I just think from far away I am reminded of the yf19 weapon is all. mmmm a macross Halo mod with mini variable fighter instead of those flying things. A destroid instead of tanks etc.. That'd be fun.
  8. Guts the 1/60 isn't masterpiece grade of quality to the 1/48. I think the main reason I would get one is just to say I had a vf1 to scale with the qrau and other 1/60 stuff like the VF0. But the vf0 although being 1/60 too, has lots of detail and in many areas improves upon the vf1 1/48 scale toy in terms of features. (for example the double jointed knees, the insides of the feet etc) The only issue now is hopefully they can up the consistancy on the stiff joints to macross zero toys and make smaller adjustments with later reissue like they gradually do with vf1 1/48? I hope the upcoming 19 aims for a vf-1 level of joint stiffness. So expensive.. You should have save the money on large scale (roughly 30cm size) stuff and support bigger scales imo since originally what was going to happen is yamato had planned to make the vf0 a 1/100 scale swappable parts toy. And everyone hates swapping that many parts because it defeats the purpose of a variable mecha and isn't as cool for a toy based on a mecha that keeps everything together. I think one of the arguments for detachable parts was that somehow it would be closer to the anime or something where the legs detach from a part under the fighter after they have been attached to the sides of the nose of the plane. My response to that though is that at no point do the pieces seperate from the plane - there is always something holding it together, so it is still more preferable to have swing bar over detatchable legs. It's one of the reasons why I opted out of the 1/60 because I like perfect transformation and swing bar. Other reasons are that the larger scale just generally beats the smaller scale overall in details and stiffness in joint and stuff. You get more detailed pilot, cockpit interior, proper non-blocky hands etc (although people go on about the limp wrists and small size heh) and it just feels like the toy holds together well with parts that lock into place firmly and stuff. 1/48 vf1 just needs to have pieces included like the gbp side covers to make it feel 'complete'.
  9. Cannon fodder has always been good if you plan on displaying more than one of the same thing together. It's one of the reasons I bought the vf1A brownie. It helps that I like the paintscheme to the 0A too. But everyone will need at least 1 Roy 0S for the reactive armor. Stuff putting a cannon fodder in a sumo suit. I wonder if yamato will release a reactive armor with 0S bundle at some point? Hopefully the joints can support the weight of the armor on them so it doesn't flop around. Also I wonder if they will release a "fat robot hand" for this?
  10. I love all those games you listed. I can't recommend to people to play RE4 enough. Damn maybe you can sneak in an easter egg (maybe a dead zentradi giant soldier) in a future elder scrolls game? I'm still looking for the dragon that is supposed to be hidden in Daggerfall after so many years of not playing it. It is a rare thing to find and I thought it was just a rumor. Speaking of replaying older games, I was just playing halo 1 on pc and realised how much better this game feels with mouse/keyboard controls. I can headshot all the bird scouts so easily now. I loved the xbox game when it first came out, (the vehicles, the scope of the levels and how they don't feel like levels, the combat balance and combos you use to fight etc) and have no problems replaying this fps as it doesn't have that "scripted feel" of the typical cookie cutter fps and actually has decent replayability. But I noticed another thing about this game: the assault rifle kinda looks like the yf19 gunpod... Does anyone think someone ripped off macross plus here?
  11. Be prepared to get sore wrists from all the snakers and never hang around in first place until the end of the race or you will get frustrated from all the crappy power ups you are forced to take. When you unlock 150cc mode in single player you will wet your pants. But I have stopped playing this for a while when I got my ds lite because the dpad seems a bit less responsive when it comes to snaking in MK. I think everyone should get metroid prime hunters. The controls in this are almost as good as a pc FPS using mouse+keyboard imo.. And the single player mode is actually a pretty solid game all on its own. In fact, I would really love it if nintendo actually released a dedicated single player metroid game for the DS with exploration like the GC games but kept the MPH controls.
  12. I will wait for the second run. I like to hear what others have to say before making any commitment. If there is like a fragile area to be careful with or a risk that I will break something by accident, I will have warnings and pics from people who already got thiers. Also because it is an expensive import, I like to take extra care. (I hope this thing is durable and packed well - no broken stuff like the tailfin for vf0 before you even open the box)
  13. Maybe the sub they were viewing macross with was a bootlegged version? I have seen some bootlegged movies from hong kong with some very strange subtitles in them (in english while I was bored) The characters practically are saying things that have absolutely nothing at all to do with what they are supposed to be saying! But it was hilarious! Don't ask me why there even was an english subtitle (given they are already speaking in english) for it in the first place..
  14. Looks like I will be going with toywave this time. But as usual I'm going to wait till everyone has thiers and reviews it before purchase. So I will be hoping for stiff joints all over in the early release. Maybe what they could do to encourage people to get the booster is include a bigger gunpod. I swear the gunpod still looks tiny to me! And the helmet seems squished. I imagine the head to be more "bulbous" in the forehead section and slightly fatter. [/random whine] I think I will end up getting 2 of these. One for battroid mode, one for fighter with fold booster. (will this thing light up like a christmas light?)
  15. I liked it alot. Can't wait for second season. The "maid to kill" eps were hilarious. It's always the quiet ones you got to watch.. Will start on the manga soon. Good to hear there is a second season!
  16. It was never really seen in the ova with the missiles on the wings though was it? I won't complain so much if that doesn't get released. What about the underarm weapon for battroid mode that we saw it use in the anime? I think that would be cool if they had that. Since there is no GBP for 19 like there is for vf1, vf0, vf11 etc.. this would be an extra thing they could add in when they finally do get around to FP version of the 19. I want to display one in battroid mode with that weapon on its arm.
  17. Reviews of that one would be nice while we wait for this 0A. *runs out of drool because of all the stuff coming*
  18. Looking at new pics now. Looking good. Now waiting to see mid transformation pics so we can see what it look like while transforming to each mode. I think it would be good ifthey just said the cylinders were cameras. Given how 'the boob' obstructs the view of the battroid when looking down so much it would be a handy thing to have and eliminate any kind of blind spot of the battroid mode if fighting in space. (I think they make great beam sabers personally )
  19. ^ All of those title plus the baldur's gate rpgs.. heheh. We should just call it the retro gamer pc thread.
  20. I wonder though how big the vf11 would actually be? Would you prefer an exact 1/60 scale or just have the fighter be large enough for the sake of durability and fitting more details? (cheating and making the 11 larger than it should be) Wasn't the 1/72 vf11 not exactly to scale? I think it looks cool in lineart though. If they can make it look close to the Dstance I will pee my pants. That looks like the thing to beat. If people offer suggestions early maybe it won't be too late to put the things people want in the toy..
  21. Yay. Looking forward to reading reviews of it.
  22. Is it fragile and stuff? One of the arguments against doing it is that people said: that is going to be a "QC nightmare". Really though, for the money and attention that goes into other things, I think it is worth trying to make better landing gear for future releases.
  23. For a custom? Extras for when some peel off? Personally I wish as much was tampo printed on. Especially anything that involves having to cut a sticker in half when it goes over a bump and anything circular. (cutting circles off a sticker sheet is harder than rectangles) Also I always shave off as much off the sticker with nothing printed on it, as possible. If the koenig monster ever gets released in a new color or anything, I hope yamato at least give us printed un spacy and eyeball marking.
  24. Yep nice pics. The 1/48 is a real beauty to behold. The panel lines look about right. That's about how dark I have them. Does anyone here bother to paint thier missile tips red? Or is it canon to just leave these white? I think they look better with red tips.
  25. Man that is pretty bad. Did you try modding it to stiffen the swivel joint? I think someone had a solution: using neoprene and squeezing some of that material in the arm or something.. Don't know the details for it.
