The Mandalorian - Star Wars webseries from Jon Favreau
azrael replied to SMS007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Can we just hand over Lucasfilm creative control to Fioni, Chiang, Knoll, or to everyone else who worked on Star Wars before the "Disney"-Purge? Remove Kennedy and never let JarJar Abrams near this property ever again. Not bad for a 1st season. But those middle fillers were agony. Normally a filler happens for an episode or 2. But those went on for 4 weeks.- 1438 replies

Looks like a good panel. The stand looks like plastic (ewwwwwwwwwwwwww). Specs look fine. After market upgrade of another 16GB and a >2TB HDD should be a down-the-road upgrade. Unedited, uncompressed video files can be notoriously large. -

No particular brand. I'm using a Acer Predator 27" IPS along with a NEC 24" IPS but I've used Dells, BenQs, Samsungs. Higher refresh rates are only good for FPS gaming. MMPORGs need screen real estate more than anything. Bizarrely enough, FPS gaming does not like to break out of the 1080p-1440p range since any higher sacrifices refresh rates. 4k IPS @ 60Hz that supports sRGB is probably where I would hover around. The focus should be on color accuracy. The object of video editing is making the video look nice. If the colors are wrong or washed out, there goes your product. From there, it would depend on the deal. Most Youtube videos are made for the 1080p 30fps crowd so 60hz is plenty fine for video editing. -

Yep. Any gaming system can do video editing. So unless you are dead set on separating video editing work from gaming, making one machine will be more economical. Unless you want to game while rendering a video, then I would consider 2 systems. The iMac 21" has the option for the 4K screen while the 27" comes with a 5K screen. Both support the P3 color gamut. -

Nope. But I'm fairly sure the line between Premiere vs Final Cut Pro is cut right down the middle. Although, I've heard Adobe has finally decided to spend some time and optimized Premiere to actually run decently on a Mac. I'm gonna say your desired platform is going to dictate Premiere vs Final Cut. Whatever you spec for a Mac, you could likely get cheaper sourcing the parts for a Windows box. So there's no help there. Next comes monitor. I'd recommend an IPS display if you don't have one, the better color gamut, the better, but that would be a longer term investment. There is another option and that is go with a laptop instead of a desktop. Personally, I use a Windows desktop and a Mac laptop. The Mac laptop is both a personal and professional choice. It was my introduction to Mac and over time a professional choice. When your friends in the same field and colleagues are a majority Mac laptop users, resistance is futile. -

That was my take on it too. The current ruler (Padme) was fresh and could be swayed with the right strings pulled. Not only was the choreography off, but weapons disappeared. Rey and Kylo should have been hit repeatedly but thanks to the magic of editing, weapons magically disappeared. That fight was just 100% cow poop.

All done. It's not a bad season 1 but I would have liked a little more. I will agree with the critics about the really rough start. The time skipping really throws you off. It's not bad, but it's not great. I came off with a "That's it?" after I finished. Maybe Season 2 will be better. I think they could have elaborated that the law usually means the 1st "surprise" to spring up. As someone pointed out an analogy, if your first "surprise" is a new puppy on Christmas, then that puppy now belongs to the person who claimed the Law of Surprise.

Hence the Senate scene and the whole We-need-to-capture-the-Queen-plot. The Trade Federation blocked all comms from Naboo so the Senate had no idea what was happening. If the Trade Federation got the Naboo to sign a pact, it would make The Federation's blockade legit (and make it appear Naboo was agreeing with the blockade). The Senate only saw it as a blockade, not an invasion. The Federation then wanted it tied up in committee and the courts just to cock-block the Senate.

Considering everyone and their mother are coming out with their own streaming services, having just Disney+ or Netflix or etc. is not viable. I know a number of people are just doing free/refundable trial subscriptions, watching the show they want to watch, then not signing on full-time. It's a sad state, but until a unified service comes that all studios want to get behind comes, there is no option.

Except they used clone-Palps instead of zombie-Palps, which feels less contrived.

Well....Took a break from The Witcher to download and watch....this. It was visually nice. Nothing to write home about but tolerable. And that's about it. That's the TL;DR. It was nice, not great to look at but ultimately by doomed by the story. I did make notes of all the junk that caught my eye but rather than run the spoilery play-by-play, this time around I'm just go straight to commentary. I got the same feeling watching this as I did with TFA. TROS is garbage. It's watchable garbage, but nonetheless garbage. TLJ was just garbage. TFA was nostalgic garbage.

Episode 3 is much better. Episode 4 moves the story along. The first 2 episodes are a bit rough and I know why (spoilers...). It starts making a bit more sense by Episode 3. And no, I haven't read the books or played any games. I can see why critics have been a bit rough on this show.

The Mandalorian - Star Wars webseries from Jon Favreau
azrael replied to SMS007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Considering their “complicated” profession, avoiding law enforcement is probably at the forefront. Jedi of the Old Republic, Imperial “security” forces of the Empire, etc. Bounty hunting, mercs for hire, etc. is found in the Outer Rim territories for a reason.- 1438 replies

I feel no remorse for Abrams. He's the one that wrote the mystery box. Did he really expect Johnson to start opening the box and pulling stuff out of it, or even fill it? That's been Abrams' MO. Unless he has something for the box, other people actually have to open or fill the story for him (LOST probably being the most egregious example). They walked in without a plan so they used the "mystery box". Guess we're seeing the fallout of that idea now.

Judging by the reviews, this sounds like a hot mess. Gee willickers. Go figure. There are certain Abrams-isms in reading the story (which I'm not a fan of). Namely... - Stuff just happens. Without watching this movie and just knowing Palpatine is back in this movie, the questions is why? How? Nothing has been leading up to this. And it's left to be explained later. TFA never had him. TLJ never explained anything so having him show up here doesn't make any sense. Again, dealing with LOST and having Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse explain what Abrams never bothered to explain always bothered me. We see it here. At this point, no, that's not acceptable.

Question: Does this mask contain electronics? A Stormtrooper's helmet contains electronics. Vader's mask has electronics. The Mandolorian's helmet has electronics. Won't Kylo's helmet have electronics in there? Otherwise, how does he see out that bloody thing? Did he replace the electronics in that thing or did he just weld it back together, cuz I'm sure that thing was in pieces last time I saw it.

At this point, if you don’t want to be spoiled, you should avoid the ‘Net for the rest of the week. Speaking of which...There's a clip that showed up with the Fortnite-skin release.

Obviously not working on these films. Instead of getting something new, like that, they literally gave us redux X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, AND B-wings. WTF?
