  1. So, I picked up a little gem of a game for $5 last night. Anyone else tried out One Finger Death Punch? Simple to learn, but so much fun to play! Also, another DOOM trailer is out.
  2. If I can upgrade, I guess I will still have to ninja clone my current HDD to the new SSD beforehand?
  3. I have a feeling that this won't apply to my gaming desktop, as it's running Win 7 OEM. My laptop came pre-installed with 7, and it won't stop hounding me to upgrade to 10. My gaming desktop, however, has not said a word. I think that I am not eligible to upgrade that one. Am I not correct?
  4. After a brief internet search, it appears DX12 is only on Windows 10, is this correct? If so, I may have to go ahead and upgrade my OS if and when I get around to upgrading my GPU and installing an SSD. There goes another $100+...
  5. My guilty pleasure, and pretty much favorite, anime of this season ended early. Konosuba had 10 episodes, but they let the fans know at the end of the episode that a season 2 is in the works. Yay! Also, Gate season 2 is getting pretty interesting. At first, it seemed like the show was a big orgy of wizards, wenches, and war machines. But this season has really started focusing on the politics and environment of the clash between two very different cultures. Looks like the season finale is next week and I don't really think they will wrap things up very nicely. We might be seeing a season 3 coming down the pike.
  6. I would like to get an SSD very soon, as prices are probably as low as they're going to get. I currently have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, but it's OEM. Will it copy over to the new hard drive without any problems? What about investing in Windows 10 as an alternative fix?
  7. Good advice, everyone. I will, however, continue using ASUS motherboards, as they have been flawless for me for the past 15 years. You may have convinced me to stick with my i5 3570K. I do play World of Warcraft, though, and I know that game is very CPU dependent. Given this, and that the Legion expansion is coming out in a few months, would you still recommend staying with my current processor? I get about 35 FPS in raids, but I would love it if I could get 60+ consistently. As far as the GPU goes... I will probably spring for a 980 if I only end up upgrading that part only. I'll go with a 970 if I also upgrade the mobo and processor. My rule of thumb is that, using the Tom's Hardware GPU Hierarchy, I don't consider it worth the upgrade if I don't jump 3 tiers. The 980 is a 3-tier jump from my 660 Ti. I'll continue to think about it. Question about the RAM and DDR modes... I'm not at home, so I can't check, but is it possible to run two sticks on DDR3, or are they going dual-channel right now (I have 8x2 GB)? If DDR3 requires 3 sticks, would you need 4 sticks for DDR4? My overall objective is to be as "future-proof" as possible without breaking the bank. I would like to have smooth 60-ish FPS on the upcoming AAA games I'm interested in. Maybe if I can land a juicy internship over the summer, I can afford to buy a whole new system. Until then, I am on a meager college student budget.
  8. *Performs thread necromancy* So, with the upcoming releases of Doom and No Man's Sky, I'm starting to wish I had the money to build a kickass gaming system that will play the new games at top framerates. However, I have a pretty good base upon which I can build a system through a series of upgrades. I wanted to get a discussion going about good deals and upgrades to see what you guys recommend. My current specs are as follows: Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4 GHz ASUS P8Z77-V LX motherboard 16 (8x2) GB Corsair Dominator CL9 RAM EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti 3 GB Western Digital Caviar 150 GB mechanical HDD H|T Omega Striker 7.1 sound card Of course, I need to get an SSD to improve loading times and overall sluggishness I'm getting with my system in its current state. I'm looking for something around 250 GB, as the 150 GB drive I have right now is ample space to store my games. I've been trying to decide if I should spring a few extra bucks for a Core i7 processor. I saw a 6700K for $330, while the alternative Core i5 6600K is about $250. Thoughts? I will probably need to replace the motherboard. While I'd like to have the option to go SLI down the road, I will probably just stick with a single 16x slot. ASUS motherboards ONLY. I'll be using the same memory. Now, a big decision is which card to go with. I prefer NVIDIA and a GTX 970 appears to have the best bang for your buck. However, I might be willing to spring for a 980. Is there any new series coming out soon that I should know about? I'm on a tight budget, but I will spend extra money if it's really worth it. What do you guys think?
  9. A new deathmatch trailer for the upcoming Doom game is out. It just keeps getting better. I may have to upgrade my computer for this one.
  10. Your stickers are still in my car windows. Hard to tell if they've faded at all.
  11. No Man's Sky now has a release date. Looking forward to trying that one out.
  12. Oh, yeah! I was very impressed by the dogfight scene in the preview episode. I am optimistic that that will be one redeeming quality.
  13. Also, you don't perform choreographed dancing in the middle of a battle. It just makes it hard to take the concept seriously at all.
  14. I was planning on starting with EU. From what I've read, it may be an easier transition into the game mechanics if I don't get the DLC? Is this just a complaint from a noob player? I see that the running gag with XCOM games is the exaggerated miss rate, despite high hit percentages. Steam reviews are quite descriptive. Looking forward to grappling with the unforgiving RNG gods.
  15. So, I think I'm going to dive into the XCOM universe this coming week. Reviews for both modern games are excellent, so I am looking forward to finally giving this franchise a try. Gonna have to make room in my time schedule, since it's currently dominated by Rocket League and WoW. Any quick suggestions from veterans of the series?
  16. I said the screaming part partly in jest. What I meant was that the robot is empowered by the fighting spirit of its pilot. Surges in power are usually accompanied by extensive bouts of yelling and screaming.
  17. Sailor Moon is Sailor Moon. Macross is not Sailor Moon. I'm just saying that hate on the Sailor Moon aspects in Delta is not necessarily hate on Sailor Moon itself. People feel that it doesn't belong in Macross, that's all. On the subject of super vs. real, I consider super robots any mecha whose power and capability is based on how hard the pilot screams when fighting. Real robot is grounded in some form of hard science, with only a handful of creative liberties taken. Usually real robots are 50 ft tall and smaller, too.
  18. Well, that's what I meant by "things that can be easily explained". I expected that that kind of technology could be easily accessible in that time. I was just using it as an example of an assumption that doesn't need to be made when using the conclusion that she's some kind of android.
  19. The long-winded and hyperbolic rants being posted as of late do seem to be very unfair to the show, since we've only seen one episode and it's way too early to write off the series already. After a few of those posts, the TL;DR syndrome sets in and I just move on. I'm gonna be honest: I've seen the episode one time and it seems like it grows on you if you watch it a few more times. I don't think that this is what makes a show "good", though; It should only take one viewing. But despite all of the things that I've seen that I don't like, one stands out above all of the others... I literally face-palmed when the VF-31's started doing choreographed dancing behind the Walkure singers. Up to that point, I was taking it all in with a grain of salt. The dogfighting at the end of the episode washed some of that bad taste of of my mouth (it was awesome), but there's still some lingering aftertaste that I just don't like. Here's to hoping that things start to relatively settle back down to reality in the coming episodes, or I may not enjoy this series very much.
  20. In regards to Mikumo, I'm in the "she's a cyborg, or something" camp. It would best explain how she could ride that valkyrie while in combat, and was so easily able to control the drones with a flick of her finger. Earlier in the episode, you could see that she was talking to her finger when communicating with her team members. Her hair is also pretty strangely-shaped in some of the pictures. I know that some of that could be explained with reasonable assumptions. I'm just saying that Occam's Razor can easily apply; the simplest explanation is probably the correct one.
  21. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash has gotten pretty powerful. It's generally a very slow-moving show, but sh*t just got real. If you haven't seen it yet, it's got a very slice-of-life feel, despite being a fantasy RPG-style show. There's a lot of exposition and character building throughout most of the episodes, but what really makes it stand out is the art and music. A-1 pictures continues to impress me with the level of production they put into so many of their shows. The art style is fairly unique and the music always invokes the right atmosphere and mood for much of the series. It's not much for action-seekers, but it still is worth watching if you feel like relaxing to a slower-paced show. If you're appreciate character development, this show will not disappoint. There's lots of eye- and ear-candy for fans of those art styles.
