  1. Beat you to it! http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=28428&st=35&p=722529&hl=whitening&fromsearch=1entry722529 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=25773&st=0&p=581976&hl=whitening&fromsearch=1entry581976 In short - to get white back you either add or remove layers. Add by painting, or remove by stripping away the top layer of plastic (which is what these chemicals do). Problem is that once you do this, it looks like they just re-yellow faster. :\
  2. Have any of you looked at 3D milling? Outside of initial expense, material is going to be the most expensive things with these 3D printers, and I don't see raw material dropping in price like technology can. I found this: http://www.rolanddga.com/products/milling/ I think the MDX-40A comes in at around $8000, and you can buy blocks of wood for your material (cheap). I think the stepping size for that unit is 0.002 mm The MDX-540 has a 0.001mm stepping size but ranges from $20,000-$36,000, so a bit pricey. Still, it seems like milling might be a good alternative to printing. The only concern I would have is with very tiny parts breaking off due to friction, but maybe that isn't a problem? I haven't really investigated more.
  3. Just did this last night. It really improves the poseability. Thanks for the step by step instructions!
  4. Hey, Jarrod, when you paint these, do you paint them before or after being assembled. Any time I've tried to paint a transforming model before being assembled, it ends up changing the sizes of critical holes and destorying it's ability to transform. Can I get away with just doing a coat of Red Primer on the pieces unassembled with the VF-27 and still have a chance that everything is going to fit together?
  5. So, if it is just cracked, do you think a little super glue on it would help strengthen it up a bit?
  6. Ugh - I have a Hikaru VF-1A and sure enough the left should has a crack in it...damnit Yamato...
  7. Holy crap - that's an Orguss! Shocked that they are making one of those...really cool. okay, back on topic...
  8. Oh, i really hope that is true - want Glaug, Regult please!
  9. That's cool. I'm really liking this line, but mainly because I'm having fun designing a board game for the pieces. What I really want is 1/200 enemy mechs!!! Still, I'll probably get series 3 as well, since I have the other two series.
  10. Dah - never mind, it looks like it is just the same trick posted in this thread. I thought it was something new, but they are just using Hydrogen Peroxide mixed with Oxy. Oh well...late to the party as usual...
  11. Looks like another way to return yellowed plastic to its youthful white appearance: http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/ I have an old Matchbox SDF-1 that I might try this on.
  12. The parts swapping on this line sort of killed it for me. I hate parts swapping in TFs. If you are going to do that, why not just give me really articulated models of each of the modes, and then I'll "transform" it by hiding the jet mode and putting the battloid in its place! It really sucks, because I'm a big fan of releasing non-VF-1 valks and was looking forward to this line. Oh well..
  13. Not remotely macross related, but Yamato related, so I thought people on this board might know something. Anyone know anything about this. The mech looks cool, but I don't know what they mean by "build your own mech". Any thoughts? Does anyone know in what way you can interchange parts or what future accessories are coming out for it? http://www.tmpanime.com/index.php?main_pag...roducts_id=2357
  14. Awesome. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the responses!
  15. So, I know about the official Yamato black stand for the toys, but personally, I think $40-$50 is a little ridiculous for a stand, but what do you expect from Yamato... So, I'm here to ask has anyone found a good alternative to display their valks in fighter mode for closer to $10 a stand? I'd like to have something for my 1/72 YF-21, VF-11B, and my Bandai VF-17 and VF-19. As you can see - buying the yamato stands for all of these would be a little bit prohibitive. So what are my options, either homemade or cheaper alternative stands?
  16. For a non-transforming toy - $50 is about my limit, and that should be something that is super articulate. I really like the molds of these guys, but $100 is just asking too much.
  17. So is the Toynami version out yet? After reading up on the reviews a little bit of the Megahouse and CM, I nearly wish one of them (Toynami even) to release super-poseable non-transformable cylones. Release a set for $30-$40 that has a super poseable rider, motorcycle and rider in ride armor. It seems like the cyclone uses too much anime magic to create a really nice transforming toy that looks good in both modes. [update] So it looks like they are out, but since tmpanime decided to shut down for a month, it looks like that is why I haven't heard anything on them yet...sigh...
  18. Good point. To address the topic, no I don't think Yamato is price gouging. None of us NEED Yamato toys. If we don't like it, we don't have to buy it. Supply and Demand. Yamato knows there is a significant group of people that will pay hundreds of dollars for Macross related toys, regardless of quality. If that market did not exist, it would not longer be viable for Yamato to continue producing these toys. They would either have to find some way to make them cheaper or improve the quality to the point that more consumers would be willing to pay the expensive prices they set. As it is, with the crappy QC, they can still set the prices high, since there are enough fans to sustain such a price. That isn't price gouging. That is simple supply and demand. I really don't care if they spent a couple of bucks and priced the things at $1000 a pop. Good for them. I won't pay that much, but if they can sustain that, then they've found themselves a great business where they will make a lot of money.
  19. You know, add me to the list that is pretty much sworn off Yamato. There stuff looks great in pictures, but man there are so many problems with ever one of their toys that it is ridiculous. When I drop $100+ on a toy, I really do expect a solid toy. Some things don't bother me ("it doesn't perfectly match the line art"), but it should be fairly sturdy in all modes, and normal transformation should not cause concern for breakage. I just got a Monster, and the thing is so loose and wobbly it is ridiculous. And the fact that I'm afraid to take any Yamato out of the box lest it break when I look at it sort of defeats the purpose of owning one. I was slightly interested in the -51, but now, unless it debuts for $80, I won't be picking it up. Even their second run toys have problems. I've spent too many hundreds of dollars (thousands?) for toys I can't even really show my friends they are so fragile. Yamato needs to take a few lessons from Takara on how to make a decent transforming toy.
  20. Yeah, I just hate that by and large they just keep releasing the VF-1 over and over and over again. I mean, I like it. I have one. Now give me something different. This list represents VFs (sorry to offend the Valk/VF sensitives) that have an interesting look and different molds than we are used to. Unfortunately with Yamato's recent pricing strategy, I imagine all such sort of VFs would go for $200+. =(
  21. I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I wasn't sure what thread it would be under. I really would like Yamato or someone to make some of these valkyries. Anyone know why no one has yet? Fz-150 Pheyos VF-4 VF-14 VF-5000 VC3/VC4 FBz109 Bomber Fz109 Elgerzorene Az 130 Panzerzorene Most of these are in the Mac 7 line, which I guess means bandai would have to produce them, but I'm so tired of the VF-1s that keep getting churned out that I want something different, but still Macross at the same time.
  22. I was hoping there would be a good all in one site. I frequent www.tformers.com and of course this site, but I figure there might be something better. I'll have to check some of the above sites out. SpaceCowboy
  23. So, what sites do you guys frequent to keep up with the latest releases of stuff? For instance, I found that I missed out on the AMDriver stuff a few years ago...completely didn't know it existed. This place is obviously good for Yamato stuff, but just for general transforming robots, do you guys frequent any sites in particular to know when new toys will be coming out?
  24. Really? I thought their alternator/BinalTech line looked really good. Ditto on the MP Optimus Prime and MP Megatron.
