Perhaps he meant that if either Arcadia or Bandai were to release a toy like the SDF-1 Makuros with the same specs and accessories....it would be more expensive? If so, probably.

The thread was clearly started with the intent to discuss the effects of the potential dawn of large-scale production of non-licensed Macross products....generically referred to as "third party"...based on the majority of the posts....it seems most MWers understood that...

unless they are T-REX...probably.....so I guess the SD SDF-1 is not "the first".....but they are certainly going about it in a much larger scale...more business...less labor of love

Isn't any purchase a de facto endorsement? Without the purchase....there is no incentive for the producer to make more/meet perceived demand from the sale.... I think Yamato failed because it was too much of a "fan" and did not adopt more business-like practices that would have helped them stay profitable...(more made-to-order, fewer releases, more releases based on customer feedback/wants, etc) Yes, I can support a 1/60 Regult...but I believe a 3P reboot of a VF-1, YF-21 or VF-19 would be harmful.... Enjoy your lunch!

I think maybe the only other company that would even consider such a release would be Hasegawa....but so far they seem to only be sticking with SD "fighters"...and more importantly, you'd have to put it together if they did release one..... This decision to select the SD SDF-1 as an initial offering is really good marketing.....stands out and grabs your attention....really unique and completely out of left field.....I hope it's successful....

Not sure if a review will matter in the short run.....if that release date is accurate it would indicate an initial production quantity has already been set.....especially since it also indicates that the first batch will get the 2 "free" sd vf-1's.....maybe 100? However, if it sells out or demand outstrips this initial production quantity...then I think a review site which can deliver the most exposure would definitely help initiate second and more runs.... Besides, we know we will get a Macross-centric review anyway as soon as one of our members gets his hands on it.... Also, even if the toy is not as great as it appears, it still deserves our support if only to encourage more and better 3P releases going forward...I hope whoever does the initial review takes this into consideration and is not too harsh.....we don't want to squash 3P Macross before it has a chance to succeed...in this respect, I think it would help if the reviewer at minimum appreciates the franchise and is somewhat knowledgeable about it's trials and tribulations outside of Japan.....

Agreed...I think Arcadia would definitely be the hardest hit by "competing" 3P releases as Arcadia can apparently only afford licensing the non-current valks.........however, if they had no intent on releasing, for example a VF-2SS, would it really matter financially to them...or would the harm be just to BW?

If they released one with any less detail than yours...it would be disappointing....Honestly, the guns don't even rotate on the DYRL 1/3000 they released.... When yours is completed...someone should tweet a pic to Mr. K... Again, very impressive work! Oh yeah...the other guy that doesn't really have to wait....
