I remember these being the crowning achievement in VF-1 PT toys....selling for hundreds of dollars in the late 80's-early 90's.... Love them or not, we will soon have PT VF-1 offerrings from Bandai, Arcadia, KitzConcept, and Three-Zero all almost simultaneously (within a few years of release at least) in the market in a plethora of scales not seen since SDFM TV first aired in 1982... We are living through a new Macross golden age of collectibles....hope it keeps on going Happy 40th Macross!

Nice to see that Bandai is going deep into the story details...that scene in Macross Zero where Focker ejects his chest piece to give Ivanov the finger as he finally defeats Ivanov was the coolest scene in the entire series!

In 1/72? 🤩

The gaps where the leg intakes should be firmly attached to the main body concerns me....if they can't make sure it tabs in firmly...then it will be no different than KC's first attempt at a 1/72 VF-1... The design and market release of VF PT Toys from vendors other than Bandai and Yamarcadia seems to be where such designs go to fail and eventually die....good luck Three-Zero!

I was ok with the QC issues, as KC has proven that they will always make things right....however, this has become less attractive after they went and modified they leg tabbing solution to "fix" an issue that quite frankly was never a problem...time and resources should have been spent on the obvious issue, which was their leg intake design....everything else got better with the one and only V 2.0 release, the Hikaru VF-1J....smh Then they release the V 2.X and although the fit was slightly improved over the V2.0...the profile and overall look in fighter mode was unnecessarily ruined with their leg tab tinkering.... Now....the usual QC issues are still happening (and none worse that the recent VF-1S "Rick Hunter"), but no parts replacing from KC will repair their leg tab "redesign"...it funny that they actually think their VF-1 looks better now after the changes....every time I see it...I can't unsee the ginormous leg tabs in all modes....even fighter mode as they are too long....and of course, force the tail wing area to swoop upwards...🙈🙉🙊- 2496 replies

Well, everything you've pointed out is more or less accurate and has already been brought up...you were warned! LOL.... At least you are not as vested into these....so maybe the Three-Zero can fill your 1/72 void with a better product...- 2496 replies

I do not see much in terms of extra articulation over the KC VF-1....as mentioned earlier by @MKT, it does seem to have borrowed the lower movable leg flap gimmick from the Bandai 1/72 kit from a few years back (not a canon feature as far as I know) and it seems to have incorporated a movable air brake.... Probably the biggest improvement over KC's 1/72 VF-1 are the leg intake sculpt....KC's are way to big and blocky...the head unit on the threezero seems a bit better IMO...the gun pod is better than the stubby looking one from KC.... Not liking the upper intake "cheese grater" look..where is that coming from? Hope they can fix that.... Looks like the back leg "lights" will incorporate plastic rather then the usual "painted" on details of other VF-1 PT Toys... Guessing that there is probably going to be some extra detail under the nose cone....just hope they can fix the seam when closed... Of course, I could be wrong, but this release will not have any of the "light-up" details of the KC VF-1....but that is a gimmick I could live without.... It will come down to fit and price....at 1/72, not sure how much more details can be packed into such a small space....but as usual, I will at least get one to check it out... Looking forward to more info/details....especially what seems like a change in how the legs fit onto the body in Battroid from how KC does it... pic of the 1/72 KC VF-1J for reference....

Thanks for the link....hoping to see some pics of the HMR Super VF-1S mentioned in the article soon

It would make more sense for SDFM TV's 40th Anniversary than a VF-5000.....maybe we'll get an announcement from Bandai? Or KitzConcept?

Thinking the Angelbird will top out at VF-1D current market pricing....rather than VF-1A Max TV or Kakizaki DYRL current market values.... And in case the OP was looking for either...look in YJA not Amazon...lol
-
Looking at this new release...it's like if Bandai decided to combine an awful Yamarcadia "Anniversary" paintjob release with a legit canon scheme....Tenjin is a great illustrator but Bandai needs to keep him away from their releases....the new Angelbirds emblem looks too gaudy and what I can only assume were his "striping" detail ideas essentially made an already goofy scheme even worse... Anyway....in for just one......

No the tabs seem to be exactly the same as the other V2.x releases...still positioned so that the tailwings have an upward slope, as opposed to the V2.0 (VF-1J Hikaru only) whose tailwing is more flat.... V2.x: V2.0: I believe the slots on the Fast Packs may be different to accomodate the V2.x tab changes...but have yet to mount them to confirm- 2496 replies

So my KC Super M&M's finally escaped customs and arrived today.....only had a chance to look at the VF-1J Max.... After going over it, it was more or less free of any major defects....the small issues were some pieces that came "undone" due to insufficient glue at the factory...the left "articulated" hand became disassembled inside the box, so will need to glue it together..additionally the right wing's "plastic lights" piece came off...both should be fine after applying some glue.....all in all, this piece looks great...there are at least three shades of blue though, mainly the "diecast" parts and one part that sits between the front and tail of the VF...I think you can tell from the pics... Anyway, here are some pics of Gerwalk and Fighter modes...will post some Battroid pics and mount the Fast Packs at some point....the Fast Packs looks nice and from what I can tell, match the blue of the VF pretty well...I also like the blue-grey color they selected for the missile covers...I'll post some pics when I have a chance.... Maybe we''ll have to wait for the "Liza Hoilie Use" VF-5000G to get the speaker pods.... I definitely will get one of the "standard Zolan Patrol" VF-5000G's, however, I'd prefer to wait for the "premium finish" version....there will eventually be one, right?
-
Yes...but the G variant can also be fitted with the speaker pods... http://www.macross2.net/m3/macross7/vf-5000g-superbooster-speaker.htm It's such a tiny set of options that I'd be surprised if Arcadia would not include them.....guess if they don't it'd be a good opportunity for someone to make some side cash by designing some and selling on shapeways....

That's pretty much where I'm at...at this point it seems the posters I end up getting are more of the promotional kind...mostly for book or toys....one set that I thought was odd was the three released in conjunction with some Japanese cybersecurity campaign...the one that caught my eye was the one that was VF focused....
