This is what I was thinking of doing, except with the P because the S/F doesn't have an easy attachment point like the P does (or hopefully will) with those shoulder speakers. Leg packs are another thing entirely. I'm not sure what to do about those.

Well, whatever color it may be I was only thinking that the FB2012 has missiles that are off white and it provides some contrast across the entire body that's pleasing. I just assumed they could set the color off a tad too. I wouldn't think anything as dark as the nose would be used, that's for sure. It was just an idea to add a little depth to an already low-vis scheme.

One thing I would say would make a difference in how interesting this might look is if they made all of the conformal missiles a darker shade of grey from the body of the plane. That would provide strips of varied color and provide contrast.

That's the smartest compromise I guess. I'd go for that.

I wonder how those speakers attach. We could probably work up some fast pack accessories instead.

I'd say that heat shield is either a clip on or they go exposed like the 22's.

We're hoping it's an SDFM style SDF-1.

The book idea is cool but I get the feeling there would be at least one HUGE legal hurdle getting that made.

That version was also in Robotech and will be viewed as such by any fan. Regardless how you feel it's tied to Robotech, that means they share the same version, and would likely make it more visible. It's observation.

I still wonder which would sell better, the SDFM or DYRL version. While DYRL is bigger in Japan (and with most Macross fans I guess) the SDFM version is also the, like it or not, Robotech version. Older fans would jump at one, if they were aware it existed. That's a world wide interest here (provided we can all remember this thing from 1983) simply because it was more widely viewed across the planet by Macross and Robotech fans.

I think both of those modes are interesting interpretations and the Battroid in particular is very imposing (save for the incredibly stupid feet) but I like the Yamato better because it's damn near the look of the lineart in all three modes and can actually transform. The Battroid here, while cool, is too busy and doesn't at all look like a Kawamori design. -
In terms of cruiser mode they're really rather different in many respects.

COnsidering how little it would take to modify the current VF-17 I don't see why making a whole new vinyl version would be a good idea. Maybe the Maxl.

Like I said before, I think it's just to cover potential fluctuations in the pre-order prices. Once the 171 was released it was cheaper other places and NY offered to upgrade my shipping or give me a discount on other Macross Merchandise. They're keeping that money one way or another but they did offer additional value for the increase.

Man, I really like that Gerwalk mode. It's like a hybrid of the VF-1 and VF-11.

I'm with dialN, if I could swing it I'd have at least three for each mode as well. As it stands I keep hovering over my one pre-order considering a second. I really love the Battroid design and seeing it painted and standing I'm becoming a believer in Gerwalk (much like what happened with me and the VF-17) too.
