The VF-11MAXL Custom pictures were changed in May 2009. As I get more issues of the Macross Chronicle (or a fan submits better color reference), I've been updating profiles. Most of my original Macross 7 work was based off the original fansubs that had been floating around the internet since the mid-1990's. The "red" on the head is merely the deep pink in shadow (note the other similarly colored shadow areas). Looking at my M7 remastered screen captures, the head band is indeed a "green" (or pale "teal"), but you're right that it should be more pale than the shade I've used (and the top of the breasts should match). You're also right about the yellow triangle. I'll make the fixes and upload the new versions. Just give me a bit. EDIT Okay, work complete and uploaded. Be sure to REFRESH when revisiting.

It's rather funny how the VF-X-2 and VF-X-3 were destroyed by the annihilation of Earth, thus allowing the VF-4 to win any design competition by default. The destruction of a competing variable fighter seems to be a recurring curse in the Macross universe Good work.

Lacking any official word on the subject, it can't hurt to make a note about the similarity of the Beatrice to the B1 Centauro. I've updated the profile (make sure to REFRESH your browser).

Thanks for visiting. I can't remember if anyone said anything about a real world inspiration for the Beatrice, but that B1 Centaruo could very well be it. Personally, the Styker Mobile Gun was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw Macross Frontier.

This Macross model may well beat the Tron Legacy trailer for sheer mind-blowing awesomeness

About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I gotta say I'm really liking that the old Bandai-mecha-turned-video-game-mecha like the VF-9 and VF-14 are getting some love in the Chronicle. They even provided enough statistics to calculate a T-W ratio for the VF-14 Vampire. Gotta love that. Are there any thumbnail pictures yet released for the VA-1SS Metal Siren? -
Science and Technology MEGA THREAD
Mr March replied to Max Jenius's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That was great. It's not exactly powerful, but it works quite well. Cool stuff. -
Perhaps I'm over thinking it but the official trivia about the nacelles and airframe don't sound like the only factor. Official trivia specifically mentions the role of the VF-0 as experimental testbed for advanced jet engines and OverTechnology prior to adoption in other VFs. Given that the VF-0 looks like an F-14, is the same size as an F-14 and Kawamori was referencing the F-14 design, I'd say it's fairly safe to say the experiment group's influence is rather apparent. Otherwise, the trivia has zero relevance beyond a name drop, which doesn't seem likely.
-
One can only assume that means the people that worked on the F-14 also worked on the VF-0. If that isn't the case, I'd be hard pressed to ascertain a context or relevance for inclusion of that fact in the VF-0 official trivia. As for the size, I'm sure the engines do have something to do with the larger size of the VF-0. So would those big tanks sitting on the upper fuselage. And likely a lot of other factors too. Not sure if we can distill it down to one single thing.
-
Gotta accept the small victories when we can, hehehe Could be an intentional design choice to make the VF-0 that large. They do say the VF-0 Phoenix is based off the F-14 Tomcat, which is a larger fighter. Or it could just be that the VF-0 Phoenix, as a test bed craft, was need to accommodate larger and less efficient equipment as humanity went through the learning curve required to understand and replicate OverTechnology.

Now there's a disturbing reveal -
The new size figures do make the VF-4 appear quite a bit larger than other VFs. This is rather fitting since the VF-4 is also one of the heaviest of the VFs (nearly 14 tons!). I've rebuilt the Valkyrie size comparison chart to reflect the new VF-4 size and I will include it in the next update of my website. But for now, I'll attach a mini-chart to this post comparing the new size of the VF-4 Lightning III. Yes, that upper engine/forearm replacement is a strange notion. They do kinda look like the VT-1, but it sure would be strange to see the VF-4 battroid with big super packs for arms! Maybe it would shoot micro-missiles from it's new hand-less oversized arms, like the VF-5000 Star Mirage battroid? It's a shame they kinda sidestep the question of 6 vs. 12 missiles, but at least they officially acknowledge the obvious contradiction. I was also hoping for more info on the other 4 engines of the VF-4, but the Chronicle only appears to talk briefly of the "Ram Wings" Having said that, it's great to hear so much about the space-based design of the VF-4. It's large weight and design really do lend itself well to a space superiority VF. Good work on the translation.
-
Wow, some radically new dimensions for the VF-4. These new figures are VERY welcome revisions. The length-to-width figures for the VF-4 Lightning III provided in TIAS Macross Plus never did correspond to the actual physical ratio of the craft. The schematics show the VF-4 length-to-width ratio as 1.32 but the old figures (14.92m length x 14.28m width) would have you believe the VF-4 was a L-W ratio of 1.05. These new figures in the Macross Chronicle are a much better description of the craft and now match with the original drawings and the schematics. The new figures (16.8m x 12.65m) are also almost a perfect 1.32 ratio. Great stuff!

Perhaps that previous post posed no problem for Penguin but perchance you ponder for a parable to prescribe to my preponderance for this preferred prose. Propose no purpose to my play but personality and, at your pleasure, please pardon my purge of perplexing prattle as I progress most profusely to a promising point. "P For Pedantry!" : Back on topic, what issue of the Macross Chronicle features the sheet that contains that VF-17 cockpit picture? I can't seem to find it in the issues I have, though I admit I am way behind in my purchases -

Posting without passion or prejudice for the perils or positives of parallels between productions (lol! ), I'd have to agree that screen capture from Macross 7 is a commonly-glimpsed Gundam moment that rarely occurs in Macross. I think Macross II, Macross 7 and Macross Frontier were the only series to feature such scenes in a vacuum. In fact, I think those scenes may have happened only once per series. In Gundam, the rendezvous-in-a-vacuum scene appears with regularity. Neither a good or a bad thing on its own, merely an easily recognizable recurring theme -
Oh yeah, that write-up was given to me by a forum member and I never finalized it. I'll have to do that. LOL! The series is such outright theft, it's almost an honor to Macross. Perhaps it does deserve some profiling Btw Ang, you need to update the address for the Macross Mecha Manual link in your signature.

I wouldn't dare...or shouldn't I? Hell, with this series, they've put even my best efforts at humor to shame I'm going to get you for this Who would've suspected the Chinese had this road apple brewing in their bowels. You gotta give them points for being so brazen about it all. You're so right. It's pilfered without shame virtually every mecha anime of which I have even a passing knowledge. I can see Macross Frontier immediately and Gundam 00 is also splashed up front. It's so apologetically daring with it's theft, you can't help but feel like you've been slapped in the face. touche. Yeah it was the finale and I'm still shellshocked from it. I don't know what to call it, but the shear awfulness of it, the audacious scope of the theft, the dumbfounding impact of it all... it might just be art
-
Ah, good catch. The missiles in the cover art picture appear the slightly smaller than the YF-19 cockpit, which is a little under 3 meters long. If we use the 10-12 meter length for the Drone, the missiles are 4-5 meters long. I'd say the problem is most likely an indeterminate size error on behalf of the artists. They rarely provide sizes for ordnance in Macross anyway and are used to simply winging it. This is likely just one circumstance where the artistic license has produced an error more glaring than usual.

After watching one episode I can honestly say Astro Plan has redefined entertainment. This show has successfully sunk the bottom of the barrel to such fetid depths one might find truffles or the Detroit Lions. Damn you, Gubaba! Damn you to hell, you treacherous spawn of Hades!
