  1. I would recommend newer Indian productions as opposed to the older stuff. The impact of international film centers on India's culture has actually increased demand for a more complex and sophisticated style of film. I think you'll find a few more jems in modern Indian cinema as opposed to older film. But it's just more of a guess than anything else. I'm hardly an expert on Indian cinema. I'd also recommend finding some websites and doing a little research. There are plenty of sites offering their opinions on Indian cinema and that should help you find more of the kind of films you would enjoy.
  2. Not exactly. They don't make a million films annually, but the entirety of the Indian Film Industry has been producing over a thousand films per year for the last decade I beleive. India hit something like 1,200 films per year in 2004. By comparison, the United States made roughly 540 films in 2004. Japan is actually the number three film industry in the world with 293 films in 2004 (yes, even ahead of France, which was 200).
  3. I am very much addicted to film and have seen a great deal. I have seen numerous foreign films from all around the world including a few from what laypeople would call "bollywood". As a great fan of all film, I encourage you to try them. I think it's good for the average person to view more foreign film, so I support the distribution and viewing of such material any time I can. Give it a try and you may like it. If you like them, you've just opened up an new door to art and entertainment. If you dislike them, you'll appreciate what film you do enjoy that much more. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying. As a critic of film, I must say that most of the product coming from Hindi cinema is not to my liking. It is true that the Indian film industry is actually larger than the American film industry and produces the most product of any film industry in the world. However, maintain some perspective when looking at it and judging it. No doubt as a member of MacrossWorld, you are all too familiar with the criticism of the American film industry. Countless posts appear here on the boards about Hollywood's lack of creativity, endless boring films, the horrible remakes, and homogenized content. This too is true of Bollywood, and I dare say, to a much greater extent. This is not to say one industry is better than another, only that it has been my experience that one must look with a more critical eye through a larger amount of weak film in the greater Indian film industry to find those jems. There is also the fact that as a North American and living in Canada, it's much easier for me to judge what is good/bad North American film. Be prepared for the cultural differences and a be generous until you find something you really like. Also be aware that the large majority of Mumbai based films are musicals. But give it a try nonetheless.
  4. I just finished finally watching the Extended Version of Return of the King. I had been putting it off until all my friends could get together for a big Lord of the Rings marathon. Unfortunately, one of our fellowship is moving out of town and we won't get the chance. So I watched it myself. I must say, this Extended edition appears to have less "additions" than the other films. Most likely becuase ROTK in it's theatrical release was the longest of the three already. Most of the additions are more for fans than to add any particular spin on events. A few embelishments here, a bit more character development there, and a touch of some fun special effects. Overall, another worthy addition to the trilogy and yet again, I enjoyed the Extended editionmuch more than the original theatre release. The one change I loved most of all, was the entire passage through the Paths of the Dead. The drama was much more compelling with the fellowship coming out the other side and seeing Aragorn's despair. It also made the journey appear that much more difficult in the context of the coming battle and thus made the plot point feel more potent.
  5. Hey, don't complain about your youth. Given we're a generation of people who marry late in life, looking young is a plus IMO. It's much easier to hook up when you look younger
  6. I can't speak for individual tastes or popular opinion. However, I can certainly inform you that regardless of the actual quality in either the Star Wars or Star Trek prequels, the earnings of the particular product are the ultimate measure of success. If a given film or television series doesn't sell, the movie or show is cancelled. It's all about the money...always has been. The last Star Trek film cost $93 million to make and market, but earned a sad $67 million total world wide sales. The last Star Wars prequel cost $140 million to make and market, but in comparison made $650 million world wide. Whether you personally prefer one over the other doesn't matter. If Star trek isn't making money, but Star Wars is pulling it's weight, I'm hoping it's obvious what the result will be. Also look at things from the flip side. How many long years has Star Trek been a consistant money maker? Numerous science fiction films/franchises have come and gone, but Star Trek survived. Regardless of whether Star Trek was actually a better sci-fi product than Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Farscape, et cetera, Trek made money and the others did not. It's bling, bling, bling
  7. Nah, White's too mushy. When I think of Claudia, I have something more like Jamiroquai in mind. Suits the whole 1999 science fiction theme a lot better and it's more funky *starts humming Cosmic Girl*
  8. Isn't that the title of a Barry White song? *off to wordiq.com to find out who Barry White is*
  9. Well, the Batmobile is a real vehicle that has 400HP and can really jump like that without camera tricks. I like the look. It's big and ugly. Reminds me of the bat tank featured in The Dark Knight Returns. Not exactly the look, but more the concept. Nasty!
  10. Ooohhh yeah. I'm gonna love this movie
  11. I like you just the way you are Duke
  12. Always related to Hikaru the most. When I was younger, I shared his naivete, pessimism, and problems with women. I also perpetually look like I'm still 16 even in my late 20s Next would come Claudia, for her no-nonsense humor. I swear we'd be twins if I was tall, black, and had a nice rack
  13. Thanks for the link. That was more of a teaser than a trailer, but it did feature a few more samples of the film I have not seen. The batmobile in this film seems to have some backbone and sturdiness, as opposed to the wheeled ornaments used in the previous films. It also appears that the batsuit is much more practical now than before. Mr. Bale was shown moving his neck while wearing the costume. What a novel idea
  14. I'll probably start making them at 1280X960. Although 1280X1024 is more commonly used, its the not the same ratio as 1024X768. I dont know why it was made but 1280X1024 is the only resolution (besides widescreens) that doesnt share the same ratio has the normal 800X600, 1024X768, etc. Here are the Mac Zero ones at 1280X1024. I myself use 1280X960 and I actually dont mind it stretched a bit. The main reason why I make it 1024X768 is becuz any bigger, its going to be a pain to dial up people and second, most of the pictures I use arent that hi-res to begin with, so you're going to end up losing quality no matter what... whether I am the one who enlarges it or your computer that stretches it. So keep in mind that just because I make it "higher res" doesnt mean its going to be "better quality". But Ill try my best to make them 1280X960 now. Heres the VF-0... Yes, I know the funky resolution of 1280x1024 is a 1.25 aspect ratio, but it just looks better on my current 21" monitor. Ideally, I'd like to have every picture I download at 1600x1200 resolution and then resize it to fit whatever needs I may have. But it's not a perfect world I understand the need for lower resolutions for people on dial up. However, I'm of the opinion that if you're spending that much effort to make wallpapers, it's criminal make them such low resolution. In a few years when you upgrade your computer or buy a new monitor, all your artwork is too small. I am also an amatuer digital photographer, so I routinely deal with pictures in resolutions 3000 x 2250 or larger, which I then shrink to whatever resolution a particular user requires. I also deal with much higher graphic samples. I just assume most other people working on wallpapers would do the same. If you don't work from hi res scans, I totally understand. I just like to ask in case you do. High resolution wallpapers are few and far between. High resolution Macross artwork is rarer still.
  15. Preferably both in at least 1280x1024 or higher. The larger the better. Pictures can always be shrunk without losing quality (relatively speaking of course), but when you blow up a 800x600 to fit a 1280x1024 screen, the resolution is terrible. That's why I always want hi res shots.
  16. Thank god for ignorance. If the thief had the slightest idea what your Macross stuff was worth he could have made a small fortune. I know what it's like to be robbed. My vehicle was stolen little more than a year ago. The thing I remember most about the incident was how "wronged" I felt. I suppose it was a little taste of what it's like to feel the effects of racism, repression, and the other horrible ways we treat our fellow humans. I hope theft never happens to you again.
  17. Just out of curiosity, where can one purchase Macross calendars?
  18. These would make perfect desktop wallpapers if we had hi-res scans. If anyone has a hand scanner, it could be done. That way, you wouldn't be limited to the glass size of a desktop unit.
  19. Whoa! Now this is something cool! Not to be critical of your other work, but this is a great looking design. This has lots of potential. I'm really excited to see more work on this particular fighter and how it evolves.
  20. Back on page one I did something similar. Not sure if I suggested 10 such films, but take a look.
  21. Very nice! You should test it out and post some pictures.
  22. Please tell me you've got a hi res scan of that fighters-on-black picture. Pretty please
  23. One bad show down, a million more to go
  24. Saying something to the right people would be a start. I'm not the owner/operator of MacrossWorld, so there's very little I can do but contribute a opinion for whatever it's worth. If you feel this strongly a PM or e-mail to the staff should be your first move. And now back to our regularly scheduled thread already in progress...
  25. I'm going to rent the first DVD and give it a shot. This looks like it could be fun. This thread keeps popping up to remind me all the time
