Remastered Cowboy Bebop with 5.1 DD audio
Mr March replied to Drad's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Not bad, but the price is a high. I'd love to have this in R1, but I doubt that will ever happen. -
Some fan came up with a 3D model THAT detailed in this short of time? WoW!

Ghost in the Shell Special Edition DVD
Mr March replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was thinking the same thing. Now that I'm planning on a surround sound system with a quality television in the next year or so, I'd like to have as many of my DVDs feature really high quality video and some surround sound options. Thanks for the information about the japanese release. It sounds dissappointing, though I rarely purchase region 2 dvds anyway. I think I own only two or three. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping this one is worth it. I wonder if Amazon will offer Ghost in the Shell Special Edition and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence together as a sale pair. Since I want both, it would be nice to save some bucks. -
Ghost in the Shell Special Edition DVD
Mr March replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
There's really no way to know for certain until the DVD is released. I assume Animeondvd will feature an extensive review which should compare the quality of the two releases. I know the Ninja Scroll special edition looked fantastic, so maybe that's a good indication of the effort they'll put into other special edition releases. -
Didn't take long for those rules to go flying out the ion exhaust star destroyer versus starship enterprise Star Destroyer (422,000 results) Starship Enterprise (231,000 results) Even google agrees, the imps win

Ghost in the Shell Special Edition DVD
Mr March replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just be thankful anime is popular enough to even justify "Special Edition" treatement, with digital remastering and all the fixin's. It feels like only yesterday anime was a dirty little secret of the college crowd and the only way you saw any of it was sans-subtitled versions of Akira on beta tapes *shudders at the thought* Then again, one has to wonder what justification exists for an uber-box set special edition of "Showgirls", yet no Gunbuster? That thing just can't be selling enough for that kind of presentation... At least, I hope not! -
Ghost in the Shell Special Edition DVD
Mr March replied to Mr March's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's not bad, but I was hoping for a little more detail. Some embelishment on these special features would be nice. How long are they? What do some of the features encompass? Anyway, thanks for responding. -
Too bad that scene is from the second book Yeah, I know. But the Restaraunt at The End of The Universe has always been my favorite of the trilogy in five parts

I was looking around on the Internet Movie Database and decided to browse thorugh their upcoming DVD release section. I found an entry for a new Special Edition release of the first Ghost in the Shell film. The IMDB didn't have any further information about what is included, amazon.com doesn't have jack, and I can't find too many details elsewhere either. Release date says January 11th (boy, this one sure snuck up on me!). Does anyone else have more detailed information?

Properly executed, this film could easily be the greatest science fiction comedy in history. Properly executed... "I'll be your meal for this evening, gentlemen. Can I interest you in various parts of my body?"

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket is the only Gundam show that I would recommend. I've seen Gundam 0080, Gundam 0083, Char's Counterattack, Gundam Wing, Gundam Wing Endless Waltz, the three Mobile Suit Gundam Movies 0079, Gundam the 08th MS Team, Gundam F91, and about a dozen episodes of Zeta Gundam. Out of all of them, Gundam 0080 is certainly the best story and best written IMO. For mecha action, some of the other Gundam shows are great, but I found during my 2-3 year run into all things Gundam, most of the shows lack a really good story or good characters. Your mileage may vary.

That's too bad, since I'd like to have one of these figures. I'm not even a fan of EVA, but the figures look great and I'd really like to have one.

Gamers have too much freaking free time!
Mr March replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction

This is certainly an entertaining thread Can't really say much about your situation without knowing more, but I will offer some comments since you felt it necessary to seek out our opinions by posting this topic. As a member of many "fandoms", it's easy for me to sit here and sympathize with you and your hard times. But I'm not aware of the circumstances surrounding your relationship or how this big problem all came to be. And it is a problem. Based upon just what you typed, the situation could be more than you realize. Maybe you need to have a serious conversation with your wife about who you are and those "other people". It's also just as plausible that you really need to move on and leave a lot of that junk in the past where it belongs. Sure it's your history, but sounds to me like a good portion of it belongs there. In either case, you should certainly learn to compromise with your partner and learn moderation in all things...especially your hobbies. You're married now and things change. But you cannot lie to yourself and give up everything. Making yourself unhappy will not make your marriage happy. Resentment is a terrible thing. A little advice from an unwed, but currently attached man. Take it for what it's worth and I hope it helps.

I would very much like to see this film again. The movie was quite enjoyable for an action/fantasy film and I remember absolutely adoring the cinematography. I haven't watched Highlander in years and I've never seen the film on a proper DVD release. It would be particularly enjoyable to watch now that a DVD has been released that includes scenes edited out for the North American release. Not a great film, but certainly one that helped build the core of my love for science fiction and fantasy during my formative years.

My friend purchased the set for me as a Christmas gift, so I guess I won't have to bother. Luckily, he purchased the green box set for me (the one that comes in the vertical, green Matrix code) so I'm spared the overly large plastic set and the silly looking Neo bust. There are some things I prefer not to have in my room Haven't had a chance to go over the DVDs, but I'm kinda at a loss at what to do with all my other Matrix films, since I already own all three original DVD releases and the Animatrix. One thing I like very much so far; the packaging for the green box set rocks. Very simplistic and easy to use. No annoying DVD folders that you have to put on the floor just to open properly. Each pair of discs (one feature film disc and one special features disc) is in a single, half-fold sleeve and both discs are on a single side (one disc laid on the underside and the other lower on the page fold half overlay; a very cool design!). I'll definitely be watching all these soon.

Return of the King Extended dvd preview
Mr March replied to uminoken's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
lol!! My housemates have a REALLY nice home theater system downstairs.... I'd love to have a marathon like that, but one housemate (the guy who owns most of the stuff) doesn't want to set there for hours on end...so I probably won't get to have a marathon.... Wish I could join ya!! Give him a shot to the head. Damn, being a fan is all about the hardcore sessions. You don't have to do them all the time, but once a year is a lot of fun. Whether the marathon is watching film trilogies, partying and drinking, or lan parties, you have to hardcore once in a while. Just to remain in practice of course -
I doubt we'll see Halo 3 on the X-Box. I'd guess the second generation X-Box will be the one to feature that sequel. Especially since Microsoft nows has a huge following of Halo fans who will no doubt follow cross-platform. Besides, the X-Box and all the current generation gaming platforms are well into the end curve of their market life.

Depending upon how well the film does, other cities in Canada might do the same. Though to be honest, I find it very strange that Ottawa isn't showing it. Alberta isn't exactly known for progressive support of the arts. I assumed most of the other major eastern cities would be playing it before us.

I'm very surprised, but pleasantly so, that Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is playing at one of the independant theatres here in Calgary. The Uptown Stage and Screen has 9:45 showings Friday's to Thursday and matinees at 12:30 on Saturday and Sunday. http://calgarymovies.com/movies/movie.asp?id=217732049 Anyone other MacrossWorlders in Calgary going to see it?
