No need to see the movie now. That trailer just ran through every major plot point of the film in 5 minutes

Hehehe, no, I meant specifically the criticism of Starcraft II being a Warcraft III clone. That's exactly what 1997 was like, prior to the release of the original Starcraft, claimed by some as a Warcraft II clone I have to agree with you. Like I said earlier, Blizzard has a reputation of doing games right, not reinventing the wheel nor pushing the graphics envelope. Personally, I enjoy the polished, quality games they've released. If more game software companies put in the same effort and quality found in the games by Blizzard, we'd have much less to batty about and the worst we could say would be "too much of the same."

Hehehe, the history of criticism repeats. I'm having flashbacks of 1997

I don't care for that system when engaged in longer discussions, particularly with three or more replies. Members have to search for a reply to them buried in a post full of quotes. I prefer to post to people one per post unless the comments can be made briefly.

I'm really not expecting some reinvention out of Starcraft II. Hell, the first Starcraft didn't make a name for itself by creating a new genre of games and found some criticism among a few gamers for being Warcraft II in space. What Starcraft did was do a RTS the right way and made for a quality game IMO. Just like your namesake One of my best friends is also not a fan of Starcraft. He's a Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander crazy, which are good games too, IMO.

The official website has really good quality videos. Starcraft II Movies My expectations are really high for this game, possibly too high for my own good. But I suppose being a less hardcore gamer now, I might be more easy to impress than I was in years past

I have to strongly agree with this point. As much as I liked Burton's Batman and even more so Nolan's Batman Begins, the lack of a complex crime story in any Batman film remains a very loud and legitimate criticism. Some of Batman's best stories in comic book format have been detective tales at their core. It would be really nice to see a downplayed Batman film which would be scripted much like a thriller with action/adventure elements rather than the traditional straight action/adventure film.

Macross 25th Anniversary! New TV series coming!
Mr March replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I think those of us concerned over the new Macross project are really getting worked up over nothing. So far, the amount of solid information available for the new Macross series is virtually non-existant. Worrying about Kawamori or the effect KISSDUM's success/failure will have on Macross is really premature IMO. I say be patient. Eventually, more offical details about the series will be released and then we'll all have real facts to whine and complain about rather than just guessing. Look at it this way, after MacrosZero, there's no where to go but up -

I'm very glad to hear Ledger is taking the character in a new direction. Nicholson's Joker just would not fly in The Dark Knight, given the more dour and serious tone the new Batman films have, as set by Batman Begins. Nicholson's Joker worked because Burton's Batman was camp at heart, but The Dark Knight definitely needs something far more dangerously sinister. I've heard Nolan discuss many times his use of The Killing Joke as reference for the tone of his Batman films and I would die a happy man if Ledger adopted some elements of Moore's writing for the character of Napier/Joker.

Hehehe, guilty as charged. I didn't mean to complain fervently, but it is a hinderance. There are sometimes 3-4 topics I wish to reply to and often there are multiple posts within a single topic I'd like to which I want to respond. The delay is quite annoying.

Great picture! Finally a GBP-1S...in action

Must...resist...urge to agree and rant why you're...absolutely right! I'll let the game owners set the tone for this thread. Some spent money on this turd, so I gotta try being helpful to them. -

I'm gonna skip ranting about mods supposedly "saving" lousy games (for now). The mods being worked on so far seem to deal mostly with providing hot keys for the game (it doesn't support hot keys natively? wtf?) and extending field of vision. Your best bet for information on mods seems to be the main website forums for the game. *EDIT* With just a bit more searching I was able to find the big thread of mods for UFO:E. Here's the link: The Big Mod Thread on UFO:E Forums -
LOL! That's fairly cheesy.

I would never use the GameSpot/GameFAQs Forums as evidence of anything except the poster child of raging ridiculousness. Sadly while GameSpot has always been a quality website, their forums join the likes of IMDB, 4Chan, YouTube, et cetera as the worst popular forums currently operating on the internet, IMO. Having said that, I would also say that by far, mediocrity is the hardest result for anyone criticizing a weak product. Quite simply, mediocrity represents the great majority and many have simply accepted it. It's all too easy to bash Postal or Deer Hunter when the vast majority despise such games. But mediocre games are hard to attack in the company of fanboys because mediocrity itself becomes a defense. Remember the famous words... "It's not great, but it's not that bad" It's almost as if mediocrity becomes some kind of victory. The fanboys cry "You see! The game isn't nearly as bad as the bashers exaggerate!" as if that excuses the game for being a weak product. I wouldn't worry anyway. The sales will speak louder than any of these pitiful fanboys claiming UFOE is a great game. This baby is headed for obscurity faster that you can say "bargin bin." And I wish it wasn't so, cause we all just want a really good turn-based squad combat game. My hopes are on the next game. -

I KNEW IT! Those lamers at GamePro can't be trusted. They had the earliest review and gave UFO: Extraterrestrials 4.25 out of 5! Puhleeease! GameSpot's review just came in, though oddly wasn't posted when I visited the site yesterday. The verdict: 5.2 out of 10. Wow, it's been a while since I've read a review that bad. Even as bad as Master of Orion III was, at least it managed to get 6.7 out of 10. My favorite part of the review so far... *chortle* For those interested, here's the link: UFOE review on GameSpot. I must admit, even I wasn't expecting the review to be quite so bad. I thought the game looked like a safe 6 or more, but it appears the game is even more forgettable than that. Well, it's been real -

Yeah, definitely play it through and beat it if you can maintain enough interest. You've already made the investment of cash, so you best get as much as you can out of it. As for me, I've been a gamer for far too many years to ignore the warning signs of mediocrity when I see them. I'll find more entertainment reading the reviews for this game than I ever will playing it. Still, at least this software company made an attempt and you have to give them credit for that. Hell, there were hordes of bad Master of Orion clones (and a lousy sequel) that came out for years before Galatic Civilizations II finally resurrected the sci-fi 4x genre. I guess we're still waiting for the champion of squad-based tactical games -

Wow, that's one helluva damning review. Apocalypse isn't as good as the original X-COM and if UFO: Extraterrestrials isn't even as good as Apocalypse...no need to fill in the rest. I suspected the graphics were as bad as they looked in still shots. Sometimes stills can be misleading, but it's good to know my first impression was dead on. I'm really curious to see the Gamespot review on this one. -

Uh, you could double team UFOs in the original X-COM. Not only that, you could have up to 4 interception craft attack a single UFO in the original X-COM. That's how you take out the Battleships. -
I doubt very much that Van Buren would have been some rated G game. If the engine was taken to completion I'm sure there would have been more than enough blood and gore, though maybe the lack of polygons meant it wouldn't look as graphic as the high resolution 2D sprites in Fallout 1 & 2. Over-the-top gore? What's supposed to happen when you shoot someone with a minigun? They disappear and turn into a floating gold coin?

Wow, just saw this on YouTube. It's footage of the original Fallout 3 made by Interplay, before being cancelled of course. Lament the Fallout sequel that could have been... This looked brilliant. What a shame.

The game pretty much has to be 3D at this point in order to sell. I fear the lack of an isometric turn-based system as well, so I'm going to be very skeptical. At least the GameBryo engine could be used to vividly create a world like Fallout.
