Macross Frontier Episode 6 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Weird, to me (looking at the Battle 7/City 7 front schematic) the proportions between the Macross 7 and Macross 25 look roughly in line with each other. Maybe it's just perspective playing on me. The Macross Compendium entry does say the Macross Quarter is supposed to be the same size as regular carriers. This would place the Macross Quarter in the 400-550 meter long range if we assume "regular carriers" refers to the Guantanamo and Uraga Class ships. -
I'd say get the NEW Yamato 1/60 scale VF-1. It looks set to be a major improvement in almost every way over our beloved Yamato 1/48 VF-1, which was already a great toy. I'm going to be getting a new Yamato 1/60.

It could be possible that the "current" Macross class ships are even larger than the existing New Macross Class, which would make the Macross Quarter much larger. There may be something to this. For example, the Island 1 is much larger than City 7, but the Macross 25 Carrier attached to the front of Island 1 seems to be in the scaled up proportion, suggesting the Macross 25 may be larger than the Battle 7. Hopefully some statistics come out next episode (via the Macross Frontier site). -
Yeah, DYRL? rocks. I'm glad you like it

What is your opinion of Macross frontier??
Mr March replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Movies and TV Series
Like any show, even a beloved one, there is always the chance it could go sour. I'm as prepared for disappointment as I can be, but I don't have any reasons to think the worst so far. I'm loving Macross Frontier and I'm going to see the show out through to the end. If Macross Frontier can avoid the trap of going for the cheap way out, it'll wrap up nicely. Here's hoping for the best -
Good catch AC! I'd forgotten all about that part. Flailing gun pods just abound in Macross

That sure would be nice if they properly animated things like episode 6 for the DVD/Blu-Ray releases. I hope that happens. -

Oh, I see. I wonder if those two designers are specifically responsible for the new ships. It can be difficult sometimes to know which designers worked on which mechanical designs. -

Almost correct. Kawamori also designed the Reguld Battle Pod, the Glaug Battle Pod and the Gnerl Fighter Pod. And it seems Miyatake is not part of Macross Frontier, so I don't know who redesigned his Bolognese (Northampton), Guantanamo, or Uraga Class ships. And of course, the Big grey ship with all the guns that get's "blowed up" by the Vajra is a totally new design. -

You're welcome. I almost get a Griffon vibe from that head unit on the purple mystery valkyrie (as in, the Griffon from Patlabor). And the back of the feet/top of the engine nozzles is very SV-51-like -

Perhaps the Queadluun-Rea is supposed to be smaller, but those proportions look way out of scale to me. The Queadluun-Rau is supposed to be roughly twice as tall as the pilot (not including the antennae). In that shot, the Q-Rea looks roughly the same size as a Valkyrie and Klan would fill out the entire suit from almost head to foot. That's definitely not right, at least in the way the Q-Rau was shown in SDF Macross. Have we just found our first AnimeFriend/STAR PRO-like animation gaffa? -

Here are most of the scans that we are referring to: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26019 As for the VF-27, that was a piece of trivia supplied by kresphy. I don't think I've seen an official picture attached to it as yet, but fan speculation is that it might be the "mystery valkyrie" seen in the opening sequence for the show: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/mf-2valkyries.jpg Lastly, the current fan theory is the purple fella shown in the pre-production show is possibly the "mystery fighter" or VF-27 (or both, if they are the same thing). Here's some pictures to help you: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...ible-vf27-1.jpg http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...ible-vf27-2.jpg http://www.new-un-spacy.com/miscellaneous/...ible-vf27-3.jpg Hope that covers it -

I see. Well, I can correct Bolognese with "Northampton". I guess this is a rare case of the old RPG website getting it right for once The Guantanamo I may have to leave as a tentative class name, perhaps adding a footnote for completion sake. It has to be named something in order to properly label it in the profile and cross-referencing in other profiles. Anyway, thank you very much Mark Nguyen. I'm sorry I missed your post back in December. I was on vacation at the time and the boards were very busy with Macross Frontier and all, so that's likely why I missed it. Or maybe I just plain forgot. Also, thanks azrael for the compendium clarification. Now, off to work... -
THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Mr March replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm glad my website was of help. But make sure you remember, my color schemes may be good fan made interpretations of the real colors schemes, but they are still fan made. Some colors might not be 100% accurate in every detail and some change over time as I struggle to correct errors. In fact, the VF-1A Max, the VF-1A Dark Bird and the VF-0S Reactive Armor have all been given a recoloring to make them more anime accurate (the new pictures will appear in the next update). Just something to keep in mind. I like the Hikaru scheme on the VF-4. Actually, I've always thought it would be kinda cool to see what the other Valkyries looked like in the classic VF-1 colors and vice versa. Like the YF-19 in the Hikaru White and Red colors or the VF-1A in the YF-19 colors That would be sick -

Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I will admit, episode 6 is a cause for concern and it appears sadly that episode 7 will suffer from at least some or all of the same problems, based on the preview. It sucks, but this is anime. I'm sticking through the story no matter what, but I just hope Macross Frontier doesn't suffer from these weaker animated episodes to the degree that the original show did. But personally the animation for episodes 1-5 looked above average to me. It was a tight package until episode 6 came along. A shame, but I was expecting it to hit eventually. -

WHOA! This is a major discovery. Are the class names in english? Do you have a time index? If this is correct, I'll have to rename the Bolognese Stealth Frigate to Northampton Class Stealth Frigate. -
Hahaha, that's great! I can see you doing stand-up

The Reason You Watch Macross Frontier
Mr March replied to MisaForever's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ultimately, story. I love characters and mecha and all that, but ultimately if the story is no good, I just won't revisit the show. SDF Macross has aged poorly, the music is dated, the animation is weak, the dialogue can be chessy, but the story keeps bringing me back every time. If I analyze the shows I've watched in the past and ask why I'll never watch them again, it's always because the story was weak. They could have everything going for them, but if the story falls apart I won't waste my time. -

I will grant that the drop in animation qualtiy for episode 6 is a cause for legitimate complaint. However, I agree with you that it doesn't justify the fanboy wrath that it's getting nor does it excuse the previous 5 episodes where fans called foul without a good excuse. But we're talking Macross World here you silly Meltrandi defective! How dare you question the illogical nature of it all -

Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I admit that episode 6 did suffer from a noticeable and episode-wide reduction in animation quality. I suppose after 5 episodes of getting it wrong, the shotgun complaining was bound to guess a winner The actual cel count and fluidity of the animation in episode 6 remains at the same level as the rest of Frontier, but the style and skill of the art is definitely less accomplished. Scene composition and dramatic angle is what takes the biggest hit. The scenes simply aren't as visually interesting and attractive as they have been for the first 5 episodes. The CG work remains the same and had quite a few amazing shots. Still, we all knew it would happen eventually, so I'm not getting my Zentradi-size panties in a knot just yet And quite honestly, this is nowhere near as bad as the Anime Friend via STAR PRO debacle of SDF Macross that we've all come to know and loathe. I hope my word is good as a big fan of the animation thus far, but yes, the episode 6 animation is a noticeably worse. But don't worry, if this is as bad as Frontier ever gets, we can stomach it a lot better than the drops in past Macross shows.
