Macross Frontier Episode 12 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
Mr March replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I don't see Macross Frontier as toned down in violence compared to SDF Macross. So far Macross Frontier has been pretty bloody. Gilliam's red waterfall of death, the Vajra's throat geyser death at Ozuma's knife, Ozuma's injury, the suicide of Mikhail's sister; the violence seems to be on the typical broadcast anime level. There was nothing in SDF Macross that was extremely violent; Kakizaki's death was probably the most visually/audably graphic violence in SDF Macross, at least in a disturbing way. The Zentradi soldier's death at the hands of Hikaru/Roy was very brief. Roy's death was pretty tame and largely bloodless. And there's more than a few "GI Joe" battles in SDF Macross. Max and Kakizaki chased off a bunch of Zentradi soldiers by shooting at their feet. Hikaru dispatched a Zentradi soldier with a rifle and his helmet glass made him nice and faceless to tone down the violence. The entire "First Contact" story arc in SDF Macross was very GI Joe-esque by the same benchmark that fans in this thread are using. In fact, nearly all the Zentradi soldier sequences in SDF Macross were typical no-one-harmed, everyone-surrenders fare. Do You Remember Love? is where all the graphic violence was found; Max's head shot, Milia's blood bath aboard Britai's ship, Focker vs. Kamjin, etc. That was the really good stuff But that's what you can get away with in a movie versus a television series. -
Can I egg you on with a comparison picture? Seriously, that's not bad fan art, but it doesn't look quite right. Check out this schematic and tell me what you think: SDF-1 Macross official line art schematic That fan picture is an interesting wallpaper, but it's kinda "off".

I think impatience has hit an all time high I've been unsatisfied with only two episodes out of the 12 that have aired thus far. I'd call that great, but that's just me. Only once the series is over will I know for sure if it works as a complete series. Other than that, this narrative complaint just comes across as another extreme; some fans are complaining Macross Frontier is too modern and not Macross enough and now here we have a thread claiming Macross Frontier is too much old school Macross and not modern enough. I'm gonna go with slow and steady wins the race and see how the show turns out.

Wow! This is like THE book to get. -
Hehehe, nice pictures. Looks like YF-19 and Prime are dancin' I purchased both the YF-19 and YF-21 yesterday, but haven't had a chance to take pictures as yet. I'll try to get some out in the next day or two.

Whoops, sorry about that. I corrected the second link. These are just links to material that's already on the Macross Mecha Manual, so should I fumble posting links on occasion you can just look under the line art section of the YF-19 profile in the Macross Plus section of the site. -
Quite right. Just a single engine on the Megaroad must have been more expensive than a SDF-1 class, so that's probably why they built so many of those cheaper red-colored, SDF-3's Hear, hear! The resources the UN Spacy had post-SWI would have been enormous, so it wasn't for lack of money and raw materials that they didn't build SDF-1s. It's likely the UNS wanted to produce colony fleets quickly so built smaller, more numerous escorts. I think that happened several pages ago, so I just jumped into the current

I gotta find a more affordable way to start picking that series up. -
I agree, the Megaroad was far more expensive and required far more resources than even a dozen SDF-1s, so it wasn't for lack of either that stopped them building more SDF-1 ships

An excellent find Kronnang! That is a fantastic painting! -
TheLoneWolf Hehehe, if I were a more devlish person... shogun029 Nope, you're right. Looks like they got the scale wrong. http://www.new-un-spacy.com/scalecharts/sizechart-1.gif

Seems filled with machinery, buildings and equipment to me, and tens of thousands more crew. The SDF-1 was the empty "space" can until the civilian pop filled it up. Megaroad volume alone would be several hundred times that of an SDF vessel and as a colony ship requires far more resources to supply, fuel, and maintain for multi-year, long-distance exploration than a naval vessel almost one-fifth the size. Yep, less resources. Roll eyes smiley engage!

The YF-19 also had a second seat that was not deployed most of the time, so the VF-25 Messiah's second seat isn't exactly something new. YF-19 single seat config YF-19 two-seat config EDIT: Corrected links -
The UNS had not the resources to build a 1,200m long ship, so they use their "limited resources" to build a 5,000m long ship instead? Yes indeed, I see the "logic" I think azrael is right, I'm just gonna wait this one out

Not exactly the VF-1's finest hour

Form of civilian government in the Macross Universe

LOL So many societies and group now, I don't know which to choose -
Ah, so that's where the Macross Compendium got the reference. Yeah, I knew it was way back in the SDF Macross era, just didn't know where. Excellent work frankmu.

Form of civilian government in the Macross Universe
Mr March replied to dreamweaver13's topic in Movies and TV Series
I love your way of thinking. I agree the idea of a mobile government is a very fresh idea for most tv/film style science fiction. I hope Macross Frontier explores it a bit more. -
Maneuverability and speed without doubt favors Macross. The VF-1 Valkyrie has nearly three times the maneuverability of the original Gundam just comparing statistics (VF-1 Valkyrie T/W ratio is 2.49 vs. RX-78-2 Gundam is 0.93). Advancing beyond the VF-1 vs. RX-78-2, the performance gap increasingly favors the Valks. A single VF-1S Super Valkyrie (T/W 6.36) beats everything in the Gundam franchise except G-Saviour and possibly Wing. If we assume the VF-1's standard weapons won't penetrate Gundam armor I see no reason why heavy weaponry wouldn't, like the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie's high-powered beam cannon, the VF-1 Armored Valkyrie's high-speed armor-penetrating projectiles or any Valkyrie converging energy beam gun (Destroid guns too). Newtypes might help, but given the vast performance advantage the Valkyries enjoy, I don't see what good enhanced awareness would do for such slow mecha. Even if they see it coming, the mobile suits wouldn't be able to react in time. Max is in a league all his own, like Einstein Personally, I see the Macross Frontier scenario as much like a Macross vs. Gundam showdown, though performance would favor Macross. The super armor red Vajra = Gundam while yellow Vajra = GM/Zaku.

VERY much appreciated I see now what you're saying and technically, you're correct. There was indeed more than one SDF Macross built and certainly plans for more. It was never finished, but as you say there were clearly more on the way according to the official word. Plus common sense dictates you don't build one-of-a-kind ships in a military force I suspect many fans consider the SDF-1 Macross iconic and singular, so I'd guess most objections to a second or more such vessels somehow diminishes the greatness of the original. Plus the lack of any more ships in the anime gives us the impression there was only one. I think ultimately it's a dramatic conceit. Logic tells us there shouldn't be just one SDF Macross class ship, but because it's all a fictional world we go with it because it's so dramatic

If the ship on Gallia 4 were an ASS-2 (so much fine booty in this thread! Damn girl, shake that thang!) some humans had to rebuild it for that episode 12 ship to look the way it does. The ARMD carrier arms are human designs, not Supervision Army nor Zentradi. Also, the ASS-1 wasn't a transforming design and the ASS-1 DYRL version looks nothing like the ship seen in episode 12. Then there's also the fact that as far as we know there's only ever been one SDF-1 Macross class ship, though I will concede the UN Spacy certainly had the capability and need to build more.
