Did you look at all of the pictures? It appears there's going to be a giftset with a Shin VF-0A, but they will also sell a standalone ghost. The standalone ghost appears to have more white coloring.

Beautiful. I think this is going to be a strong contender for Toy of the Year. Probably a 3-way race with YF-19, Starscream, and SOC Gunbuster. Maybe DMZ-02 Strikedog as well. The elbows look nice and thick to me. The elbows on the old YF-19 always bugged me a little, glad they updated them.

Dude. It's not a model kit. BBTS regularly gets information wrong about japanese toy preorders, it's all just secondhand info from some distributor who probably doesn't share a common language with Joel (no offense to BBTS, I love em). Hell, someone along the line probably saw 'Wave' and assumed 'model kit'. We've had it confirmed by multiple sources now that the SDF is pre-assembled.

Saying 'instability is a good thing' is obviously an oversimplification. I'm assuming 'instability' means that when you tilt the aircraft, it tends to amplify the tilt (continue to tilt further) rather than correcting back towards the flat (stable) condition (in electronics we'd call this 'positive feedback'). If this is the case, then a small amount of instability would be nice, given that you can incorporate electronics that will provide 'negative feedback' to prevent utter disaster. A little instability would theoretically give the plane the ability to maneuver faster. But, if the instability were too great, it would become increasingly difficult to design electronics capable of compensating, and you'd have a deathtrap. I would assume that David is correct: practical unstable jets are just barely unstable. I had always heard that FSW automatically increased instability past the tolerable level, but I'm willing to accept that this information is incorrect if people can provide some references on it.

My anonymous second-hand source says this is a joint effort between Wave and Yamato (sculpted by Wave, jointed and fitted by Yamato). Completed, toy-like, metal and ABS with minimal PVC. FWIW.

Amen to that. There's a similar dynamic in the transformers community .. sooper secret plans, a few insiders in the know, a big show of righteous anger when news leaks out. Long ago, under a different name, I was the first to post illicit pix of Yamato's 1/60 vf-1. That post got taken down mighty quick. Of course, that's Yamato's call, I don't blame Graham for following their wishes (although I do blame him for all the taunting! ). Yamato could learn something from Bandai: advance news and teasers whets the appetite of the fans, and builds up buzz. I think that lesson may be slowly starting to sink in. We do have to bear in mind one thing: they don't want to tell us about plans that aren't finalized, because we'll be even more pissed if we hear there's a yf-21 coming and then it gets cancelled.

um.. actually, the reaction to your post seemed incredibly calm, dispassionate, and reasoned... in fact, you did seem like a nutpicky nitcase to me, I would have come down on you like a ton of bricks if I had mustered the energy to reply. (but macrossworld in general seems like a haven for nitpickers, so I don't bother to attack that kind of thing here)

I understand where you're coming from, but as a general engineering principle, more gimmicks always come at the expense of sturdiness. For example, the more 'gimmicks' that your car has, the more likely something will break, in general. Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to this shoulder gimmick. It's just not something I find very exciting. And when I hear that it's just one of many (3?) gimmicks being added, I get nervous about sturdiness. Of course, this could all prove unfounded. I've had very good luck with my 1/48 vf-1's and 1/60 vf-0s.

There is no question that Shaggydog is most definitely crazy. For one thing, he talks about himself in the third person. ..oh, and I've wasted a lot of time defending the Toynami MPCs on MW. Which is pretty much the definition of 'crazy'. But, this thread is about the 1/60 YF-19. Which I'm eagerly anticipating. I just don't want it to break.

OMFG! Hinged shoulder pads! It's a REVOLUTION in toy making! Please Yamato.. the cheesy little gimmicks are cute.. but you've historically had problems with fragile or defect-ridden toys. Make the thing solid before you make it gimmicky.

All those weapons would be great, but I'd settle for a more manly-looking gunpod (like the one shown in that art). The new pix look fantastic, though - my concerns about the gullet have been erased by one of the side-view shots.

I don't like a lot of spare parts on a toy, because then you have to keep track of them. I prefer a toy that can carry all of its critical parts. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to removable landing gear if it gave the fighter mode a significantly better appearance. But I do find it amusing that folks are getting so worked up about it, since it seems that Yamato has already designed the toy and the chances of the YF-19 having removable landing gear are essentially zero. Nothing wrong with doing 'what ifs', but don't get too excited about something that's not gonna happen.

Well, brother, it could be that the whole frickin' ball o' wax is make-believe, so the designer didn't have to worry about the physics of flight. I'm no aerospace engineer, but I don't get the strong sense that the yf-19 would fly in any case. Who cares? Cool looking plane, anhedral wings or no

An unnamed source informs me that Yamato is shipping another production run of Garland on the week of Aug 28th. I'm told this is fairly standard practice (not just for defective/problematic toys). Graham, if you read this, do you know if this 2nd production run is 'corrected'? If so, I'm gonna do what I can to obtain one... thanks
