  1. Cripes, every time I see there are new posts here, I check the thread to see if there's new MPC news. Instead it's always some goddamn basher bellyaching about how toynami sucks. Here's a thought: if you hate toynami so frickin much, DON'T BUY THEIR STUFF, AND JUST IGNORE THIS THREAD. Why do you want to add stress to your life? I can understand complaining after an initial purchase, but if you're still complaining years later, you need therapy.
  2. Graham... look up the definition of gratuitous and there is your answer. I don't mean to be flip, but if you've read the series then you will know what I mean. He just keeps adding more and more and more. Maybe my point of view has changed since I started having kids. But I think even someone without kids would agree that the use of sex in this book is starting to get a little silly. 348596[/snapback] Well, I've read the first three books and I'm about a third of the way through "A Feast for Crows", and I disagree with you. I like the sex, I think it adds flavor to the books. (Oh, and I have kids.) Now, if you want to argue that Jordan shows a little too much fascination for the humiliation of bitchy women (and that pretty much covers all of the women in Jordan's books), I think you might have a case...
  3. Luckily it's a totally imaginary made-up make-believe vehicle, so he can pretend those things are whatever the heck he wants em to be
  4. Amen, brother. A big focus of the series is medieval politics, and I figure sex played a pretty big role in that. Seems entirely appropriate. And as anyone who reads 'savage love' can attest, the world is chock full of freaks and perverts. God bless 'em. drew: I read the latest Jordan book myself. While it sorta gets things back on track, to me it still seems like he's lost his touch. It's just not as creative or interesting as the first books were. But, mileage may vary. I'll be reading the rest of the series in any case
  5. I'm interested, but I don't have great model building skillz. Is this a very difficult project to complete?
  6. As you can guess from my username, I'm a big fan. Especially since Jordan seemingly lost control of his series, A Song of Ice and Fire is the best epic fantasy out there, IMO. But then again, I like Toynami Veritechs, too, so you might not wanna take my word for it
  7. Interesting. On my blue version, the cockpit won't stay locked down, but it's fine on my purple version. Maybe that part of the mold wasn't really changed, and it's just a statistical/QC type problem?
  8. If you only buy valks, I suppose there's no reason to use HLJ. I've had great experiences with many other online retailers (V-E amongst them), but honestly the main reasons that HLJ gets most of my business are (1) the simplicity of having all my preorders for SOCs, FIXes, Binaltechs, SSGs, Max Gohkins, and Valks in one place, and (2) the ability to easily check, modify, or cancel those orders before they are released. I agree that HLJ's packing is not optimal (nor is the slowness of SAL shipping), but I'm not much for pristine toy packaging anyways. Now that BBTS has improved their site, some of my business may move there.
  9. up for preorder on hlj cheaper? uh - no
  10. Cheaper? My goodness, that's some optimistic thinking! It seems to me that Yamato has been engaged in a funny little experiment where they try to determine just how ridiculously overpriced a toy has to be before the fans balk at buying. If you look at the pricing of some of their recent items (the scopedog accessories, the 1/48 GBP armor, and so on) it's clear that they're getting worse, not better.
  11. 'fastpacks attach via magnet' looks like yamato learned a little something from toynami there, eh, boys?
  12. The only problem is that actual science is not scientific. Scientists won't admit openly their own mistakes and especially the mistakes of past scientists who they worship as their masters. In the 20th century, two revolutionary theories overturned many phyical ideas that were widely accepted. These were quantum mechanics (later extended to quantum electrodynamics) and special relativity. These theories were proposed because they fit with some experimental observations which had not been adequately explained previously. Like all good scientific theories, these theories were 'falsifiable' - they made specific predictions about the physical world that could be tested with experiments. These experiments have been carried out by multiple researchers in many settings, who have published their results along with all the details of their set-up, in such a way that the experiments could be repeated by other researchers, and the entire works subjected to rigorous peer review. Given the rather bizarre nature of some of the predictions, many people were anxious to discredit these theories at first, but to date they have passed every test and their predictions have been verified. Thus, quantum mechanics and special relatively are now widely accepted. This is the scientific process. Today, there are still folks working to find alternative theories and test the predictions of quantum electrodynamics and special relativity. Moreover, there are yet-stranger theories that have been proposed, from general relativity to string theory, which have not yet been sufficiently verified, and many people are working to test those theories and propose alternatives. It is important to remember that if tomorrow someone were to prove quantum mechanics false, there would be rigorous scrutiny applied to that claim (given that the theory has passed so many tests so far); however, if he or she had a reproducible experiment that showed unquestionably that the theory was incorrect, that person would likely be given a Nobel Prize in physics and would become one of the most famous physicists in history. Scientists are not taught to 'worship' previous physicists or theories, but to question everything. To all of you who hate science or think it's a sham, I beg you to consider the next time you use your cell phone, or read this message board, or cook something in the microwave, or enjoy air conditioning on a hot day, or drive to the store, or fly in an airplane, or play a video game, or even flush the toilet that these things did not come from magic, they came from SCIENCE and engineering. By using all of the above comforts you are implicitly acknowledging that science is pretty darn useful. I'm sad to see my thread has turned to this.
  13. not sure if this is new, but hlj has nice flipper/action pix: http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN932864
  14. It'd be nice if mahq had a search section, but you can use Google instead. Search 'mahq' and 'mobile suit name'. Example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%2Bma...G=Google+Search
  15. The toys haven't been made yet, ya morons. They've just been announced. Personally, I think this stuff is cool, but I grant you it's very different than Macross. Kawamori has moved on. Something to think about, eh? *cough*
  16. Our friends at zipa remind us: to view more images, click the tiny 'Next' at the top of the image window!! (there are 4 images of the scopedog, total) Also note the exciting Huckebein news!
  17. Max factory is working on a non transformable one thought, right? The one on both displays are the same exact one. I think Bariaburu faita was right about the other stand was the sculptors stand and the other was Yamato. I think we haven't seen Max Factory's yet. Well, we don't know for sure if the Max will be transforming or not, all I've seen is pure speculation based on the fact that they haven't made transforming toys in the past. I'm still wondering if Yamato and Max are working together on this, but time will tell.
  18. both max factory and yamato are making garland toys, which is why there were garland prototypes at two tables: http://www.zincpanic.com/view_article.phtml?id=18609 Kind of weird, maybe they're working together on this. Max Factory is new to the toy scene, it made the excellent diecast genesic gaogaigar toy recently, as well as some decent MaK powered armor toys.
  19. Kind of ironic, Toynami made sturdy MPC VF toys and everyone at macrossworld b*tched because the MPCs weren't as pretty as those fragile 1/60's. So apparently Toynami was stupid enough to listen, and they made fragile, pretty MPC Alphas and everyone at macrossworld b*tches because they aren't sturdy. Another toymaker churning out collector's items instead of toys. Oh well.
  20. C'mon Cyc... let's not keep giving out the handy answers all the time. That hinge was trouble from the start. It's suppose to be double jointed but only one hinge moved. The other shoulder opens the way it's suppose to. When someone defends the Gakken you root for Toynami. When the Toynami has a weakness you blame it on Imai... That sucks about the piece breaking off exo. there's no way that should happen, it's clearly a serious problem if that happens to a significant number of people. I have some sympathy for cyc's position, I think some of us are really excited to see serious new mospeada toys, and we feel like toynami never gets a fair shake around here. But, assuming you didn't take a hammer to the toy, parts shouldn't be breaking off.. that's a disappointment for sure.
  21. Thanks for the comprehensive review exo, although I'm not sure I saw any flaws there that looked serious other than maybe the landing gear issue. (of course, 'serious' is in the eye of the beholder.) Tam at tmpforums said that the landing gear could be pulled out further to (barely) lift the underside off the ground, and ali sama's pix in this thread seem to confirm this. Is your alpha unable to do this? Maybe there's a quality control problem..
  22. Yeah, I agree with haterist - magnets are a great concept, it's a shame toynami didn't use more powerful ones. Oh well, the legs are usually supported by the ground or my hand in fighter mode anyways, and they sorta stay put with the peg they provide.
