  1. Same thing for the DVD version of Caprica (which I recommend watching rather then the plan). Pretty standard practice for SciFi, throw in gratuitous nudity on the DVD version that can easily be cut out for the TV version.
  2. The entire American Anime market is still a pathetically small group of people, most likely there are the same number of people that prefer to see Das Boot in German with subtitles as well. (If the market were larger then the Japanese companies making Anime would put more effort into wringing some profit out of us) I'll hazard a guess that the two primary reasons we prefer Subs to Dubs are. 1 - English VAs are not as good as the Japanese VAs (not even close in many cases) 2 - Dubbed shows often got chopped into kiddified versions stripped of their essence. (Clash of the Bionoids anyone?)
  3. The elite groups were the aliens (FBI guy). The Terrorists were the ones trying to expose the aliens. Our aliens must not have a great need for medical treatments (hit by a car, doesn't appear to have happened to the infiltrators for example) or they would have been exposed long before (or they are more infiltrated then shown, enough to cover up an alien in a person suit getting hit by a car for example). Time to stop before I ramble too much.
  4. Also - the show had it's ups and downs, at one point I personally thought it got really bland, but then it got better then ever (or at least as good). Final episode - I thought it was a little silly, but I still liked it too.
  5. The only reason he doesn't is becuase he doesn't pay ANY attention to anything but his singing...
  6. I'd read that the Live Action Akira got canned a couple months back. (or am I missing a joke?)
  7. Fair enough, but what DOES he say that protoculture does now? And why were the Zentradi/Masters so intent on getting back Zor's ship if the protoculture in it was not so useful? Eventually they sent nearly the entire Zentradi fleet to get it back. (unlike Macross where it was just one small portion of the Zentradi) Personally I don't have a problem with them changing continuity - it's the fact that it seems to change willy nilly that is bothersome.
  8. Those are invalid copyrights, patents, whatever. You can't copyright things already existing in nature. What they *CAN* copyright/patent/whatever is artificially created stuff - GMO crops for instance. Which is still a tricky legal question - it's not the same thing as copyrighting naturally occuring organisms.
  9. the Doctor Who episode "Tooth and Claw" has the origin of Torchwood. But it is a different Torchwood then what you see in the show.
  10. Liquid Sky (Don't look for it, just take my word on it). Runner up is Battlefield Earth (at least Liquid Sky didn't have any budget to speak of)
  11. I'd have to go with Akira. Strong runner up for "Averiderci Yamato" (Yeah, I butchered the spelling - and I've heard at least 2 other possible English titles for it)
  12. Very Nice. (you keep doing enough of these alterations you could have a small animated scene done...)
  13. Much better.
  14. I could swear there is a shot of the old style Basestar in Razor (DVD version)
  15. They don't need to go on without him or Lisa, the characters don't have the Macross names, and no longer look anything like the Macross characters (Rick isn't bad, Lisa looks like a bodybuilder, I still like it - at least from the Shadow Chronicles art, but would hate to see what the animation of her will look like considering what all the other female characters look like). They certainly could go on without the character though, his character was nothing but window dressing the Shadow Chronicles. If anyone would watch is the question.
  16. And then Jedi council was a pack of idiots. Especially in the Clone Wars series - whatever they say to do, do the opposite.
  17. For the TV Series get the Animeigo release. It is subtitled instead of dubbed. Available on Amazon. There is also a dubbed version by ADV, personally I was not impressed with it (that one can be rented on Netflix). The DYRL movie has not been officially released in the US, but check the fan works section here for options on that.
  18. I'm not exactly sure what that bit of slang means (forgive me, I'm getting on in years) but I'm sure WB and Tobey figured out the situation with the rights before they put any money into the live action movie. (The Watchmen problems aside)
  19. Make this a fifth, I just read it a few weeks back and found it to be the best book of the lot, it even filled in some silly holes from the sentinels books. (I'll not mention them so as not to spoil anything). The book is the least "Robotechy" of the lot though - much less combat (although still plenty) and more of the plot driven along by other events (which I liked)
  20. I REFUSE to sin Sin City because I did see 300. Hard to choose which is worse, that or that Beowolf disaster. (I can't tell if you like his movies or not, no offense meant, but if 300 the movie is any indication of 300 the comic, then comics are not for me)
  21. Yup - lack of funding is a real pain in the arse
  22. He is sort of at fault, but only since he showed the way forward in regards to how merchandising could make money. But I remember what Hollywood productions were like before Star Wars, and saying it was better then is really a case of wearing rose tinted glasses... (not arguing with you, just with those that think Hollywood was corrupted by Lucas, it was corrupted long long long before him)
  23. Unless I have my facts totally wrong, GL has so much money he had a free hand to make the prequals however he wanted. So he IS to blame for them being soulless crap. Sadly, George had great vision, but his ability to craft all the details was sorely lacking.
  24. It's pathetic. These people have to get a life. Only thing worse are the people who make Star Trek fan productions - use that talent to get a paying gig! (And I say this personally knowing a couple people that are involved in doing the Star Trek fan shows) Yes George is a licensing nut, yes everything after Empire Strikes back stunk like fresh guano, and yes (never mind, the other two thoughts cover it all), but nobody is forcing people to watch any more Star Wars.
  25. I've been wondering what the expected audience age was for animated shows in Japan. It's hard to guess from the content of the original shows since I'm hardly familiar with what passes for acceptable for children's viewing over there. (I'm a little better off then the average US citizen, but not by much) I'm guessing that Macross was originally intended for a young teenage male audience, but it had a major crossover to mainstream. So, does anyone know what age bracket all the following were intended for? Yamato series 1 Farewell to Yamato movie Mobile Suit Gundam Macross series DYRL Macross Plus (the subject matter in this would have made it a possible R movie in the US, PG-13 certainly) Macross 7 (hard one to pin down, partly since I just didn't get it personally, looks like the young male teenage audience again) Macross zero (I don't even have a guess here) Macross Frontier (I heard it was on later at night in Japan, but at least one episode seemed to be geared more toward a teenage audience)
