Man, when I was looking at people photos, I noticed the head laser on mine looked a lot shorter than everyone else's. I thought maybe I mistransformed it. So I kept trying to pull it up and stuff thinking it was like the arcadia VF-19s where the lasers can slide forward and back. Nope, I transformed it to battroid and it's only got the pivot point. The reason it's so short is because I think the tip snapped off while it was being assembled or before it got assembled. I probably wouldn't have noticed and thought that's just how they designed it, but seeing everyone else's, it's obvious and bothers me now. Chances are pretty much nil for getting a replacement part also for Bandai stuff... This sucks. Crappy phone pic: Huh, well then. I guess I'll have to give them a pass on that, even though the CG model on the inside cover of the manual has it. I'll get around to it eventually. I still have so much other stuff to do and no time to do it. My VF-0D is still in pieces and covered in masking tape and I haven't even sprayed any paint on it yet.

I got mine this morning and just had some time to play around with it. My first impression is that I love the extra panel detailing this has over the Arcadia version. I hadn't been keeping up with things lately, so some of the gimmicks were a surprise to me as I discovered them while transforming it. I like that they tried to do something with the gunpod angle by having the gun bend in the middle so that it isn't pointed so downwards, although I would have preferred that the handle extended or something. I thought that the inner leg part was ingenious. I knew that the panel folded up before, but didn't realize that the lower part then pushed out as well when you extended the feet. Overall, it seemed to fit together pretty well without super parts on. with super parts, it came together better than the Arcadia did, although I don't like that a tab and gap is left visible between the wing glove and the leg. Transformation was surprisingly familiar, but it was like a mix of the Yamato and Arcadia versions. I was left a little disappointed with how the locking of the upper chest was practically non-existent or just very weak. Just trying to move the arms would cause the chest and nose to lift up. Aside from the boosters having a tendency to pop off easily, transformation from fighter to battroid and back was doable for me with the super parts on. One other thought... why is it that Bandai forgot to paint the gray stripe on the edge of the upper intake piece just like Arcadia did? I mean come on, they put all this extra detail in and then forgot something basic. It's even on the CG model so one can't say that it wasn't there to begin with.

Evolution Toy - VF-2SS Valkyrie I 《MACROSS II ~LOVERS AGAIN~
MacrossJunkie replied to joppewo's topic in Toys
This seems more along the quality of the Studio Half-Eye and Experten transformable valkyrie kits which never really impressed me in any way. Definitely not the sort of quality you would expect from Arcadia or Bandai. Reminds me more of a garage kit and the price seems about what you would expect from one also. The Experten made VFs ranged between 18,000 - 25,000 yen, were smaller at only 1/100 scale, and looked cruddy as hell. I'm not sure how much the S.H.E. stuff cost, but I'm sure they were expensive as well. -

Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
MacrossJunkie replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
The series had the benefit of using 3D models, yes, but the proportions for the Yamato toy were still off. It was already quite apparent given how much wider the Yamato VF-0's looked in battroid mode compared to the show. The 0D and the upcoming Arcadia 0A and S have proportions much closer to the show. For the pilots bouncing around, just stick a little putty under the pilots and that fixes it. The Yamato pilots were definitely too big for the most part. One thing about the Yamato made pilots is that the proportions for the pilots were vastly inconsistent, even between two releases of the same pilot (YF-19 Isamu vs VF-11B Isamu), which Arcadia seems to be doing far better on. Arcadia's Isamu, Shin and Edgar are proportioned much more consistently with each other at the very least. -
Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
MacrossJunkie replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
That's a feature! To simulate Edgar banging his head on the console during the first dogfight in M0. He must have a penchant for that while Shin pulls off some high-G maneuvers Definitely nothing like that. I don't see the same gray component in the blue in that pic. That is from the first prototype, right? -
Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
MacrossJunkie replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
Not really. I can see under any lighting in my house so far that it has a grayish component to the blue that is unlike any blue on my Max 1A, VF-25G, VF-19, YF-21 or GBP-1S armor, but very dark and very saturated. So I wouldn't call it a Max-ish blue. I would consider it its own category, but it's also just so far off the mark from what it ought to be. -
Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
MacrossJunkie replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
Just got mine today and fiddled around with it a bit. Some random thoughts: First thought when I took it out of the packaging (aside from the color) was just how fiddly it was in fighter mode since the fins and canards aren't really locked in place in any way. Putting the pilots in, you'll see that they aren't secure in any way, but that's nothing a little putty on their butts won't fix. Transformation was simple. If you've transformed one of the previous iterations of the VF-0 or even the VF-1, there's really nothing here to surprise you except for maybe having to pull and slide out the heat shield before folding the chest down, which on the other VF-0's wasn't a step that had to be done. When I got it to battroid mode, I found the joints were a tiny bit loose and couldn't hold some positions, but wasn't completely floppy like the Yamato VF-0's. If I pulled the legs out for the full hip movement range, they somehow became completely floppy, but putting them at a midway point seemed to fix that. I guess when fully extended, the socket doesn't have as much pressure around the ball so the legs just flop around. It looked silly with the legs that far out anyway. The gunpod handle is not floppy (yay!), so it stays in place pretty well both when fully extended and retracted. I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but the T-bar lock doesn't work well on mine. It's constantly popping out of the locking mechanism under the nose cone and the grip on it when in place is very loose. I've never experienced this with either the VF-1's or previous 0's. As for the color, I might experiment with masking and spraying a light gray filter to maybe get it somewhere in the ballpark of where the color ought to be, because right now, it's not even in the same municipality. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they got it so so wrong when it was blatantly obvious just how far off it was. Aside from that, it looks very very good in all modes and a vast improvement over the Yamato VF-0's. Putting it next to the VF-0S, the 0S just looks so much wider. I couldn't find my tape measure to properly measure it, but I would say just by eyeballing it that it's at least half an inch difference in width. -
I've never had to do upfront payment at CDJ with any of my pre-orders there, but I always elect to pay by credit card. Edit: Geez. Replies keep coming in as fast as pre-orders are going. Anyway, good luck to everyone else still looking to get one.

I personally haven't bothered with Amiami in years. Even if you were able to secure one from them, their customer service is poor and if there was anything wrong with the toy at all, you're pretty much out of luck. They might offer you a slight discount, like $5 or something.

Takes a little while to show up. Don't worry about it. Happens every time I order too. 17000 17,100 yen, I believe.

Wow, the sculpt in general and those proportions look so much better than the Yamato version. Why is there that little winglet on the 0S intake? The 0S doesn't have that in the line art or in MZero.

Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
MacrossJunkie replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
Dang, is that what they settled on? *sad* I would consider repainting the blue areas, but those faded wavy edges where blue meets white are going to be hard to do properly. -
... If that's the early bird price, what's the normal?

1/48+fp's, 1/60+fp's, 1/72, 1/2k, 1/3k,1/100 and now 1/144

Nice shots, Saburo, as usual Dang, that reminds me that I have my 25g tornado packs to do... grr... That's been sitting on the backburner forever. I also forgot about my Q-Rhea still sitting in the HLJ warehouse waiting for something to be shipped along with it. -

That's pretty comparable to Dying Light. If memory serves, the requirements, particularly in the minimum category, used to be higher but they lowered it for the game a little while later. The RAM reqs were double in both the min and recommended categories what they are now. I don't know if it was because the initial specs were mistaken or because people were going "wtf?"- 7040 replies

I had to look up what this Plasti Dip was. Is there any particular reason you want to use plasti dip instead of paint made for models? It looks like it's a rubberized spray on coating that you can peel off. Probably would be pretty thick as well and seems like it could peel off along with the masking when you remove the masking. As for the masking itself, all you would really need is Tamiya masking tape, an x-acto knife, and maybe some liquid masking film.
-
Wow! Just got it off of CDJ. Actually got to apply some points and brought it down to $228.75 after EMS shipping. Hmmm, HLJ is way cheaper. Oh well. I got a pre-order. I'm happy and done with tonight.
-
I don't know why I'm even bothering to stay up. I've got work in the morning and I've never been able to secure a pre-order on these Bandai releases because they somehow disappear in the 2-5 seconds it takes to refresh a page.

You probably wouldn't miss the toe break pedals anyway. I can't find a good use for them because of the way games seem to see the axis. For example, star citizen and other games don't see the left and right toe brake axis as a 0-100 scale, but as a -50 to 50 scale and at resting position, it's at -50 instead of 0, so whatever I try to assign it to is unusable. I can't even get them to work right in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. I also wish it was a bit smaller (it's huge!). At any position than the one I have it at right now, it bangs against the frame. Even now, there's maybe a few millimeters of clearance on either side when I slide the pedals back and forth. That aside, I'm loving my current setup. Things that require subtle movements like the Murray Cup races in Star Citizen or just aiming at ships is so much easier now compared to the X-55 with all its stiction problems. Took me a couple days to get used to it. The stick is a solid metal casing and with enough heft that I could unscrew the handle and easily bludgeon someone to death with it if someone were to attack me. The centering tension is much higher than even the heaviest spring for the X-55. Even some of the buttons require some finger strength to push. My right hand was hurting and my arm was tired after just 40 min of using it on the first day. Now it's not so bad. Hmm, I guess I'll have to figure out how to make my own. I'd probably need to get a sewing machine though I can't use a needle worth a crap. I think one made out of black leather or leather-like material and red stitching would look great.- 7040 replies

Glad you're having fun with it so far. I'll be continuing to keep an eye on the game's evolution. I know what features they've promised to add in so it will be interesting to see how the actual implementation goes. Nice! Can't really go wrong with any of those. That's strange they they leave it up to the customer to figure out how to mount the tabletop. Is it supposed to go on top of the steering wheel platform? I've had to change out my HOTAS. The stupid X-55 Rhino developed massive issues with static friction on the stick to the point where moving it to a direction would sometimes just get stuck there and just trying to make a tiny movement in a direction from center was impossible. It would be stuck until I applied enough pressure and then go way over because of all the pressure applied. I couldn't even modify it it to try to smooth it out because of the way it was built which prevented me from doing so. So I bit the bullet and got the Thrustmaster Warthog which Newegg had a sale on during cybermonday where they offered the warthog + saitek combat pedals together for $400 which was an amazing deal. Here's mine as it is now. I wish I could do better cable management but I'm finding most of my cables are too short to give me enough slack to hide them. Also, where did you get the covers for your HOTAS?! Those are great. I really need something like that. I'm just using the clear plastic bags the warthog came packaged in to keep out the dust and it looks like utter crap. Have you tried the Diaspora mod for Freespace 2? I thought it did a pretty good job getting the feel of combat in BSG.- 7040 replies

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
MacrossJunkie replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I had been hemming and hawing for weeks before the release on whether I should buy it or not. I had been following its development since its early days but never backed it. It looked interesting initially, but there was just something about it that never managed to convince me to pull the trigger. I watched tons of gameplay videos from people who were playing through the beta throughout the year. In the end, the final game just didn't seem to provide much that would keep me playing long enough to get my money's worth out of it. The impression I continued to get from the beta videos a mere couple weeks before the actual release was the gameplay was rather shallow once you looked past the actual flying. The exploration, grouping, and social functionality are particularly lackluster. The flying portion itself looked great. I like the beam weapons, heat and signature management which gives possibilities for sneaking past people or ambushing, and the manual station docking is cool. They're going to continue to develop the game and add more features, but as it stands right now, it's rather disappointing, imo, since I was looking for another good space sim. That said, what's your impression of the game after playing it some? Currently keeping an eye on No Man's Sky. It looks pretty promising, especially for people who like to explore.- 7040 replies
