That spring loaded tab is there specifically to keep the front and back halves together in Battroid mode. When pressing it down to disengage from Battroid to fighter it is always best to hold the back plate so you don’t force the metal shoulder hinges to warp and eventually break the plastic clips that keep them in place. Plus it keeps the Battroid tighter. If you often mis-operate these parts the front and back halves will get very loose and sloppy over time. And when you pose an arm with the GU-11 pointing forward the two halves will often split and the arm droops down. And as an FYI, a similar clip system is used in the 1/100 Takatoku figures, but the clip is attached to the nosecone underside and has no spring tension. Hope this helps.

As such, here's Wotafa demonstrating his "own way" of untabbing/disconnecting the peg by pushing it down with his forefinger starting at the 13:14 time-stamp (turn on english-subs for context): snapshots: That is the process that you and Betsuni discovered, right? Or at least, close to it? I know I've both read and watched some fan/fans detailing or at least noticing that particular part some years ago before, but I can't seem to find it anymore right now. Maybe it's in one of the old MWF threads back in the day. Maybe in this very thread itself since this thread has been active since 2005... 😅

I think Chromebooks and the cheap Windows laptops just got serious competition with this release. Schools looking at un-tethering their students from Google could probably do it with the Neo. College students who only need the bare essential laptop could also use this one (let's face it, kids these days will use the phone more than anything). You are not gaming on the Mac. Period. But parents wanting to limit their kids to school work, videos, web. This is that laptop. And you are not the target demographic for this device. Dell consumer or enterprise (i.e. servers)? And Dell and Lenovo sent out notices that prices would be increasing in March. I see the Air (M4 or M5) as the "traveling-work-laptop" now. It's lightweight and can do professional workloads for brief periods. The Neo feels like the M1 Air replacement. The "Couch computer" would be a good take on the MB Neo. After using my M3 Air (and an Intel-based Air before that), the Air feels like the best everyday-worker's laptop. I've had family say they would upgrade to the Neo because the use-case matches exactly what they want. If you are planning on going iPhone, the iPhone 17 (no Pro, no Air) is the best bang-for-buck. Unless you need more lens for those perfect shots, the Pro is overkill. The Air's only selling point is the thin-ness. The new 17e is an upgrade to the children's or older parents' phone. It works and it's cheap, but there's better options. -
Latest was probably the best episode of the season. A legitimate good episode. I still question the intelligence of Star Fleet. Earlier on in the episode the command staff start sharing notes trying to guess what the bad guy's plan is. It is pretty obvious. You'd have to be a complete idiot not to figure it out. They're bunch of idiots.

Bummer. That's been the bane of Macross collecting since, well, forever, I guess. Neither Arcadia nor Bandai really provide any global support for their toys. Only jp-residents get support. We foreigners may get some occassional courtesy-support like Arcadia's, but your experience seems to have ended even that courtesy. As such, we're all stuck with only respective jp-shop "support", with really only returns/refunds within certain times after purchase-date. If even at all...

Most likely missed it, but is it easier or more convenient or less pricey for you to get that CostCo prebuilt you linked earlier than building one yourself? -
Built up a tiny PKA with my kiddo. I really like these 1/35 Artpla MaK kits. They usually come two or three per box so you can give one to a friend or build them up with optional gear/parts that they come with. Great value and smart fool proof construction that has creative peg shapes so there is no guess work. Mak for dummies. Hahaha

I am due for a new phone... Any upcoming iPhones have a better camera (read: zoom/night performance) on the lower-end versions? "ultra-super-duper-wide panoramic selfie" is of zero use, but if there's a second lens, that's what it's for. "optical zoom" is only ever present as a third lens on the highest-end version. But really, it should be the first, default lens. (because the actual default lens for about every iPhone ever is zoomed out to 0.75 or so--it's not even "reality", just giving me 1:1 zoom compared to what I see in real life would be an improvement) -
Ok, yeah, it doesn’t “launch” the tab out with spring action like the missiles in the gunpod😂. It just releases it so you don’t have to use force to pull it out. But as you mentioned, it was also probably designed to reduce stress and breakage even if you don’t press down to release.
-
Yeah, I know. It does have a spring in the assembly of it. But it doesn't do any springy-action when you push down to disconnect it. I can only guess that Takatoku engineers figured out that it helps in easier alignment connection and cuts down on structural breakage by isolating it.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
sketchley replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yeah, that was where I was coming from when I brought it up. It's old and decrepit enough to look like it's been around much longer than the Macross 7 City Ship it's attached to, and Macross Chronicle's description is pretty suggestive... Thanks. I didn't really look at it that way—gotta break out those meme's about Macross 7 having everything, again! This adds so much. Not only the out-of-universe evolution of Fold Quartz, but also suggests so much about the in-universe discovery and initial exploration of the material's capabilities. The other line of thinking I had is "what real-world situation or country was Kawamori-san basing it off of?," as he is quite concerned about justifying fictitious things (E.g. the "dancing Battroids" in Macross Delta to justify manned transforming humanoid robots when a drone jet would suffice.) The coal-mines is admittedly a blink-and-you-miss-it, throw-away line that I'm probably overthinking, as it's goal was most likely only to justify the need for the YVF project in Macross Plus. Agreed. While the Master File books hold a bit more weight (as Kawamori-san was directly involved as a "supervisor"), ultimately they are glorified fan fic. And as Kawamori-san has said himself: each Macross production is a dramatization made in-universe about real events, the same holds true for the Master File books (as in-universe publications—that may or many not be fanciful extrapolations—about "real" events, technology, and equipment!) -
I don’t have any Takatoku or early Bandai chunkys easily accessible to see but from the pictures I’ve looked at and SH saying he has it on his Jetfire, I’m assuming it must have been an original design that was on all of them. You can see in this picture that @jvmacrossshared of his Strike Valk, that it seems to have the same design. So that tab sticking out, push from the top (above it) down (towards the black screw) and you should notice it is spring loaded. I’m definitely also curious if it is not on some versions. Again, that would be very interesting since every write up I’ve seen that mentions differences in the various releases has never made any mention of that clip and if they were aware of it, surely thy would have mentioned the existence or non existence of it.

Debating it. I really like the color, and although it's not a real Apples-to-Apples (pun totally intended) until they benchmark the Neo, synthetic CPU benchmarks of the A18 in an iPhone suggest that it is an improvement over the M1. I could spend extra and get an Air M4, if the prices go down when the M5 hits, but since the M5 has a price increase over the M4 I think there's less pressure to do so. Right now an M4 looks to be around $900 still, which is half again the price of the Neo. I mean, so do I, which is why I have a 2025 Zephyrus G14. I take that with me when I travel, and I'll bust it out if I want to do some real work but don't feel like going upstairs and getting on my desktop (which is where I do 99% of my gaming). I mostly use my M1 Air when I'm couch surfing but need a real keyboard, because it's lighter and has better battery life than Zephyrus. I also have a stand by my desk so that if I need to look at the internet or something while I'm playing a game on my desktop I don't have to alt-tab out of it. Yeah, that's my real point. A MacBook Neo isn't a high-end computer for gaming or professionals, but if you're in either of those categories you're already budgeting for more. But I think the majority of people are doing most of their computing in a web browser, be it streaming video, surfing the web, checking email, doing schoolwork, etc. Those sorts of people don't want to spend a ton on more power that they don't need, and I really don't think there's a better sub-$600 option right now. When I bought my new G14 my dad was freaking out because his laptop had Windows 10, Microsoft was ending support for it, and it was so old he couldn't upgrade to 11. I wound up just giving him my old G14, but if he asked me today what he should get I'd tell him MacBook Neo. I'm less enthusiastic about the iPhone 17e. I mean, it is probably a good deal, and I expect I'll be buying one in the near future for my daughter, but I personally don't like iOS. -
That's what I did and there is no springy-action that you and Betsuni were talking about. The peg just gets un-tab when you press down on it since you're giving it space to unhook. There is no springy-action, tho. At least, not on my Super-1S. edit: btw, we should be clear that one pushes down the peg area below the trap-door, instead of the trap-door or the backplate itself. Pushing down the trap-door or the backplate itself may just result in tragic breakage...

Ok, I’m not sure if I can post a video as easy as photos here but I think I can explain. See the top part circled in this picture? That tab that locks into the hole in the fuselage circled below it, is spring loaded. From the perspective of this picture, you could push up on it. When transforming to Battroid like in the videos you posted, you can see the same tab from a top view through the door that the head fits through and you can press down on it to make tabbing it in easier, and when transforming from Battroid mode, you can open the door and press down on it to release the tab without forcing anything. It’s definitely not obvious unless you know it’s there, which is what makes it another insanely cool feature that I went decades not knowing. I hope that makes more sense now.
-
Hmm. Maybe you need to demonstrate it. I took out my old Super and tried it. It only untabs the the clip when I pushed down the backplate, but with no springy action.

Exactly! @betsuni is the only person I've ever seen mention that when transforming from battroid mode, you can open the back door and press down on the spring loaded latch for easy release. I'm wondering who else knew that because I sure didn't and not ashamed to admit it.
-
Yeah my point of reference was 1985 when I was a kid and had G1 Jetfire. Nothing was mentioned in the G1 instructions and I wondered what the part was for. I also never owned the Takatoku 1/55 VF-1 as a kid. Congrats to the person who knew it before others. Here's a cookie. The question was how many people knew about the feature.
-
I edited my post after you quoted but once again, not a single one of those mentions specifically the spring loaded nature of the clip and that you can press down on it to release. They only mention the clip in part, which I think is obvious and the part that is kind of mind blowing is the easy release part that no one mentions.
-
Yeah. That will be kinda bizarro weird to it take apart for a feature. Got me interested a bit to check out if other reviewers that touched on this easy-to-ignore feature and remembered CDX 2009-review of the 1990 Super Valk did point it out at the 12:13 time-stamp here: and kinda did at the 13:23 time-stamp with the hard push-to-click stuff on the Origins VF-1S back in 2010: Like most everyone else, we just kinda muscle-memory/habit it just like EVA_Unit_4A did without really dwelling on it since it's just so logical... add/edit: here's Peaugh's talking about it back in 2010 at the 6:09 time-stamp: Really assumed @jenius old reviews may have mentioned it in passing as well, but not sure anymore... edit2: Yup. @jenius kinda alluded to it briefly when clicky-unsecuring of the backplate in his review at the 6:29 time-stamp: @Slave IV was talking about the "spring-action" unhooking by pushing down the peg/peg-area instead.
-
I get you don’t have to take it apart. Not really a feature if that was the case. I meant it makes sense someone who took the whole toy apart would notice it. Either way, thanks for sharing the video. That is the only other time I’ve seen it mentioned now. Edit: After watching it again and listening to the translated version, he doesn't mention the spring loaded feature at all. Just that you need to clip that part in, which you never need to know about the feature to do. He doesn't transform back from Battroid mode where it could be mentioned that you can press down on that part to release the clip.
