  1. Read 'em an' smile....or...um...read it...and smile? http://www.cnngo.com/tokyo/visit/tokyo-hotel-targets-geeks-gundam-theme-rooms-317336?hpt=hp_bn5 Pete
  2. While MP10 is definitely on my list - I'm not going to get MP Sideswipe or Red Alert. I don't like the characters enough to bother. MP Nightbeat, Siren and Hosehead...there's three Autobots I DREAM of. And an in scale Miss Fatale and related henchmen :-) Pete
  3. Thanks, but I prefer the Japanese. It would be tempting if I still lived in the US and could just walk into a Target or Toys'r'us or whatever - but given that I have to ship from overseas anyways and pay hefty import taxes one way or another - I prefer to go for the Japanese version :-) Although in the case of FOC Bruticus - I am getting the US version for sure. Takara-Tomy wait-time and paintjobs just don't work for me. I went with BBTS. Pete
  4. Speaking of starting things up again - I just went and ordered myself a FOC Bruticus and MP-10. Let the good times roll (out) ! :-) Pete
  5. Ok - this makes sense I guess. It's just that for a supposedly out-dated model, the AEUG's MK II performs so much better against anything that the titans throw at them - so I wondered - if in actual combat the MK II outperforms all of the Titans latest MSes...then wouldn't they be wise to maybe build some more MK IIs themselves? Then again - the real problem is with their pilots, not their MSes....I mean, AEUG have Char, Amuro and Kamile - all Newtypes, and two of whom are veterans of the OYW. The Titans just don't have anybody who can match them - Jarid being the prime example of a pilot who just never ever is effective - to the point where it's almost sad to watch him being ambitious... Pete
  6. I tried using the search..... Anyways - here's the question: In the Zeta Gundam anime - why is it that the Titans suddenly stop using the MK II pretty much around the time when the AEUG repaint therir MK II? Technically, before the Zeta shows up, the MK II is the most powerful MS in most battles - and I just kind of figured that if the Titans had a whole bunch of them - equally powerful - competing against ONE AUEG MK II, they would most likely have won... Or...am I wrong?? Pete
  7. Uh....ok - kind of detoured and built the original Gundam first...sorry for the crap picture quality - my digi-cam battery is charging :-) Pete
  8. Oops I did it again... Next up - HGUC Zeta Gundam :-) Pete
  9. I was also initially excited about the MG Marsai - but ultimately the fact that it's the same inner frame as the Zaku II/Gouf made me say "meh" - I'll end up getting the HGUC probably... For now I'm aiming to get the Asshimar :-) Pete
  10. Moving right along...I built an HGUC Psycho Gundam...he's left purposefully blurry to give him that "looming menacingly in the backgroud" feel :-) Pete
  11. Hm. That link mainly contains massive amounts of arguments in favor of the theory that Prometheus is actually a Simpsons spin off I saw it on the internet due to it not getting a release in Poland until late July (all movie releases are being pushed to July because of the Euro 2012 taking up everybody's evenings)... I will see it in the cinema in July - but for now, I must say I'm moderately happy with it.... I kind of missed the aesthetics of the actual Aliens...the new T2-ish aliens are...well...it just looks like something out of the Abyss.... but the story is good - and that's what counts! This definitelydeserves a sequel :-)

    HI METAL LOVE THREAD

Hm - I took to the trouble of reading some of the debate about the financial feasibility of the 1/100 line on this page of the thread and want to just note the one reason that people might want to buy 1/100 Valkyrie like the HI-Metals that has been overlooked: Compatability with MG Gundams! As a Gundam fan - I just like the fact that I can finally have a decent Macross vs Gundam collection without having to fork out for PGs (besides - the PG selection is not as rich as the MG selection)... I think the HI Metals failed mainly because they are still relatively expensive compared to the 1/60s from Yamato... Pete
  13. Sometimes, I feel like I live on a space colony far, far from the rest of civilization...why? Because EVERYTHING is late in coming to Poland. The only thing Poland got BEFORE the rest of the world was Star Wars episode II "Attack of the Clones" - I'm not kidding. There was a special showing 1 week before the world premiere - one showing - that's it - and I was there...oh the joy... Nowadays I can't even see Prometheus because while it premiered all over the world - it premieres in Poland in late July...although...I guess this is because of the Euro 2012... Um...anyways...that long intro was just to lay the groundwork for saying: I finally got Macross The First #3 :-) So - here's some thoughts: 1) What are those...bug things? They look like Invid from Robotech crossed with Vajra from Macross Frontier... I'm not too keen on them. Maybe if I understood the words then I would think differently? 2) So, the Mr. Lingerie scene gets changed ...for the better? I dunno - I kind of prefered the subtle version of the original cartoon...but that may just be the grouchy old nostalgic Pete talking... 3) I like how toned down Misa's civilian fashion is compared to the uber-sex-kitten Minmey. Misa is the perfect lady :-) 4) So, the "poitician" of Macross City is on the Macross? That's an interesting and logical twist. What is this dude's function? UN Spacey honcho? 5) I like that Max pilots a Destroid. The manga would be boring if it featured Max piloting a valkyrie because we've already had lots of nice pictures of Valkyries doing stuff. Besides - it's enough that Hikaru and Roy fly them. Multiple valkyrie works well in an anime format where everything is in motion. But a manga has to offer something fresh to readers - it can't just be more and more pages of the VF-1 doing things (albeit with different heads/paint schemes)... so - kudos to the writers for putting Max behind the "wheels" of a Destroid! I can't help read this and wonder what a new Macross anime based on this manga would look like. Certainly I think it would be a worthy venture. Pete
  14. My first HGUC in...wait lemme count...FIVE YEARS! Wow... But the-O just doesn't warrant an MG version unless people like big bulk. It's just not a complex enough mecha design. It's basic one trick is the saber-claws under the skirt - nothing more... There's really nothing "cool" to work into the bigger MG model - so the HG version is perfect. Pete
  15. I'll probably have Macross the First #3 in hand sometime in the next couple of weeks. That'll be a treat... It kind of sucks not knowing Japanese and having to go by the pictures but...whatever :-) Pete
  16. Yep - I agree Sketchy. The CGI craze really got going with two sci-fi movies: Terminator 2 and the Abyss. Both T2 and the Abyss were AWESOME - and both of them used CGI SPARINGLY. I think that's the point - they used CGI only a little bit to do something truly surrealistic. Nowadays, CGI is used for mundane things - all because a digital toilet is cheaper than a real toilet. It's cost-driven, I think - and that is certainly hurting creativity... Pete
  17. Hey y'all - just thought I'd toss a pic of my VF-1D into the mix. The little Hikaru and Minmey are my MS Paint masterpieces :-) Pete
  18. Hm... recently, I've been rewatching the Charlton Heston sci-fi films like Omega-Man and Planet of the Apes. Yesterday, I sat mesmerized by the simple costumes and action/special effects of Omega-Man and wondering...dag...I really really LIKE this film. The acting, the kind of low budget noir...it really speaks to me. As impressive as the CGI rendered Caeser ape from Rise of the Planet of the Apes was - there's just something about these retro films that I will never stop loving... Same with films like James Cann in Roller Ball... Err...the point? Well - I just kind of realized that lots of films which might be farcicle in some aspects get a lot of my respect. Generally speaking - I can almost be sure that any Sci-Fi movie made post-1993 will SUCK for me. The last "new" Sci-Fi movie I watched and enjoyed a lot was District 9... the Star Wars prequils don't really count...they're good...but they're star wars...different category really...not sci-fi per se for me... Oh boy...sorry... Why is it that I either write short one line posts with a coherent thought or I babble on without being able to express a clear point of view? I don't know what the worse sci-fi movie is... Revenge of the Fallen still hurts - kind of like if somebody shoved a broomstick up my a$$ two years ago - it would probably still hurt today. Pete
  19. Too bad my girlfriend doesn't want to come see this with me. We saw the first Expendables movie together - sort of by accident (we agreed to go to the cinema and see "whatever" was playing at the moment we walked in...) I've been trying to convince her - but she doesn't see the merits of this film :-) Women! Anyway - I'm very happy that this is being made. Stalone is awesome for putting this together! And it will be so good to see Arnold! Pete

    HI METAL LOVE THREAD

BOMBA!! That picture is awesome :-) Pete
  21. Regarding the price on these - 1) I think people over-estimate the market for these things. The hardcore TF collectors who would want this do not number into the zillions. Hasbro's TF appeal is that the toys are relatively cheap and creative and clever - there really aren't people tied to G1 amongst kids and mainstream collectors these days. So, these G1 based third party TFs are more expensive because I would guess they are not mass produced at anywhere near the amount that TFs are 2) Hasbro uses economies of scale and this lets prices be relatively lower. Third party probably doesn't have this benefit due to smaller demand 3) For me - there's a psychological blockade preventing me paying these prices...TFs were always cheap (relatively cheap), and lots of the Third-Party toys, while great, STILL tend to take design liberties...I dunno.... hard to say... I think ultimately the nostalgia factor will win out and I'll go back to collecting G1 :-/ Pete
  22. Interesting to hear that the story veers into a bit of unknown territory. I will have my copy of Macross The First #3 in hand some time in June... Pete
  23. Ok...Link gets a figma figure...but Macross heroes STILL don't ?? I want my Mikimoto style manga Minmey damnit! :-) Pete
  24. Thanks. Well - that certainly is a minor alteration...but I guess it is easier to slide the leg hinges in and out after this? Pete
