  1. That is actually quite logical. So, I guess it wasn't a crazy fashion choice after all Finally... what's that bunny animal of Minmey's? Is it a bunny? I kinda miss the rats (you know you're a hardcore SDFM purist when you miss the rats instead of being happy at the cute animal thingy)... Marii Ijima has a bunny - so is this supposed to be some kind of hommage to that - or is it a space bunny - like something that grew there when the Zendradi still used it, miraculously survived the crash and generally has a cute-span of a 100 years? Pete
  2. Wait... this thing is up to Macross the First #7 !!!??? I just got done "reading" #2 ... My one - well - two minor gripes: 1) Hikaru shows up for his date with Minmey dressed like...well...I don't really know how to call it...is this supposed to signify some kind of dweeb boy-otaku? Personally, I much prefer how in SDFM TV Hikaru shows up in a shirt and tie - maybe not for the date...oh snap!...wait...now my mind is melting... In DYRL he shows up wearing some fancy-pants get up...a t-shirt or something....ok... but in SDFM TV...doesn't he show up in a tie? Anyways - I always liked this about 70s/80s anime that on the one hand you had this super advanced science - but on the other hand fashion remained traditional and reserved and women looked lady like and guys looked like gentlemen. I guess this is why I also love the aesthetics in Turn-A-Gundam... That said, I'm not by nature opposed to fashion updates...but... were they trying to make Hikaru look totally lame here? 2) Swapping Science Officer Man (who got the part of Dr. Lang in Robotech) for Hot Science Chick with Glasses was....not a good move IMO. I understand that the Science Officer was, in Macross at least, such a minor character that in effect it doesn't really "matter" - I guess manga-fans will find it more appealing to gawk at Dr. SexBomb than at a rendition of a boring dude with no character appeal...maybe that was the thinking behind it but... Oh well - in any case - I do enjoy this Manga. Pete
  3. Oh, whoops - clicked on the wrong link. Dag. Is this debate still going on? Wonders will never cease... Pete
  4. The Nimoy news sounds great. And I hope Bay isn't just spewing marketing crap about how there's more depth to the characters this time around. Although...with time...ROTF has grown on me...kind of look at it as a bit of a goofy live action super-robots flick using real robot aesthetics ... We'l see... Pete
  5. I re-watched the Running Man a couple of days ago, and just watched Terminator 2 (although I stopped after they destroyed the T-1000 because I didn't wanna cry when Arnold was lowered into the smelting pools of Polyhex...err...sorry...getting my genres mixed up there!)... Anyways - I need to go out and get T3 and Terminator: Salvation finally. T3 kind'a sucked - until the very end where it was great. T4 I really liked...even though Arnie is CGI - it was a great sequal. Recently, Arnold Schwarzennegger was in London attending Gorbachev's birthday party. He tweeted his approval of Poland's Lech Walesa - which is always nice insofar as it has a remote, tiny-weeny connection to me :-) Oh yeah.... I also watched Arnold's "seminar" on Youtube - from the Arnold Classic...truth be told...the questions were lame... there's such a wealth of things I'd love to ask him about bodybuilding - but in public most of the questions were really amateurish... That said, I didn't know he wrote an Encyclopedia - I have to find it and read it!! :-) And...finally... I think Arnold has to be made President of the World. The UN is pretty lame, but it could become relevent again if it ditched the "Secretary General" girly-man post in favor of the more important sounding "President of the World" post. Arnold could be appointed for life. He could then go around the world telling people to stop killing and stealing and start lifting weights. Pete
  6. From a body building perspective - this guy is not proportional. Arnold talked about how he tried to make sure everything was in proportion. This guy's pec muscles are way too big, he needs to work on his abbs - I mean, even Sly has better abbs at age 60-something than this guy! His arms are ok - lean, but when taken together with the chest - it's like...does he just bench press and work on his pecs all day for some reason? It might be more in accordance with the books or whatever - but truth be told, I read one comic AFTER I saw Arnold doing Conan. I do agree that there's a lot of fake muscles in body building these days - but Arnold wasn't "these days" - Arnold and Lou Feringo were competing back when tone, definition and proportion mattered more than sheer size (look who Mike Katz loses to in Pumping Iron). I'm not saying this Conan choice is horrible - I mean - he looks good - it takes a lot of work to get that result...but...there's just something...strange about his proportions... As for the trailer - the voices stink, and the narrator is terrible. There's not much to be said for visual content - just some smoke, screaming faces, and this guy swinging a sword and saying one line... We'll see. But when I compare this new Conan to Sly in Rambo III.... dag... this guy is wasting his youth... Pete
  7. This is awesome!! :-) I used to make Transformers videos when I was a teenager all the way through college with a cam-corder, but have since taken to photo-comics. This just needs a good plot! Also - I would recommend that you do your own voice-overs - it'll broaden the scope of what you can do with the story :-) But awesome dog-fight!! :-) Wheeljack is mis-transformed in one scene...but that Ford Mustang mould was always a pain... Congrats!! Pete
  8. Hm. This is turning into a regular soap opera. At this rate, Haruhi better start piloting transforming super robots fast... Pete
  9. So they make a new leader Bumblebee...with no hand. Not getting that! Pete

Thanks. I guess if you have an image of Mikuru in your mind then you are afraid of being dissapointed by the "real" Mikuru in the series... That's understandable. I had a similar problem with Transformers: Beast Wars. First I got the toys, then I read the TMUK fanzine Beast Wars comics (drawn by Nick Roche - who a decade later would be drawing for IDW), which were a continuation of the TMUK TF: G2 comics (which itself were an unofficial continuation of Furman's TF: Generation 2 from Marvel). And the characterizations in Beast Wars there were totally different - a kind of murky "state of nature" thing...sort of like what was suggested by the original toy designs in general.... Then I watched the show many years later and it was totally different - not worse, I loved it - but totally different... and sure, there was this initial apprehension... Although Neale Davidson's BW fanfics helped iron things out... Err... anyways - go watch Haruhi :-) and thanks for checking out my web site! I really need to get down to reviewing the rest of season 2 - I've only reviewed Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody... Pete
  11. Glad to see Leader class Ironhide. Is that a new Leader class Bumblebee next to him? The supreme class one supremely sucked - not just because of the lack of a hand, but also the hood of the car didn't really transform. This one looks to be different...or amy I just seeing things? In any case - nice to see Ironhide getting some love. Pete
  12. My initial reaction this is luke warm - mainly because of an instinctive "Blade Runner is fine the way it is!" feeling - but I guess the worse that can happen is that this new thing will turn out lame and I'll just forget about it and continue enjoying the original. Or it'll be good. Pete
  13. I don't really tink a pre-built core body with add on bits qualifies as a model kit :-) Pete
  14. Watched all the new trailers for this and I must say it looks great - I just hope the plot is not as brazenly disjointed as ROTF. I really don't demand all that much from TF. The first movie was IMO great - it held togetehr very well in terms of plot an pacing. ROTF was just a disaster, although lots of eye-candy... DOM seems to be conceptually strong and I am eager to see how this installment plays out! Pete

Oops...didn't notice this - so anyways... here's my Macross site (although other anime and stuff are here too) :-) www.dyrl.pl Pete
  16. I'm confused. What scale is that core fighter in?? Pete
  17. Initially, I thought this thread would be about a Macross anime that is based on the Macross: The First manga and is a retelling along the lines of the new EVA movies. Oh well. Pete
  18. As time goes on, I miss my MG Exia. I built it but then had to sell it a while back. I had the ignition mode. Insofar as I wasn't bowled over by the OO anime, and I've heard some negative things about the Trailblazer movie - I will admit that while vaguely non-complex, the MG Exia was a fine Gundam - if for no other reason than it was unique and extremely poseable. I think I might like to try to acquire a new kit to build of it... But for now, I'm itching to maybe one day get my hands on a Nu Gundam kit. I've also been thinking about enemy mecha. I have the UC Char and Gouf, and I guess I should maybe try to acquire some other Zeon stuff, but I'm repelled by the Sazabii... it does seem a bit ungainly and bulky... The red mecha from Unicorn looks cool though; although a bit too overly complex... and... I'd have to get the Unicorn too :-) Oh well - lots of goodness ahead... I think instead of wondering about future Gundams, I should get around to reviewing the Red Frame Astray I just built - I'm really happy with it... just need to build the stand so I can put it in some killer poses :-) Pete
  19. Here's what's currently on my nightstand: - "Falling in Love with Holy Mass" by Father Boguslav Nadolski - "Guide for those who feel disuaded" by Father Tomasz Pawłowski (no, I don't feel disuaded, but it's part of my First Communion for adults prep class) - "Strength Training: Muscle Mechanics" by Everett Aaberg (I don't know if this is the original title, because mine is the Polish translation. This is a book about muscle pyshiology, with bits on skeletal and organic biology as well) - "More than Body Building 2" by Pavel Tstatsouline (former trainer of Russian secret service agents) I just finished Poland's second place Body Building champion's Tomasz Brzuska's book "Fitness for Men" (still need to watch the CD) and keep the book handy because it has lots of good photographs with descriptions of proper form/breathing techniques for exercises. I also fnished a number of books about the eucharist (once again for FC prep). Finally, I have Ayn Rand's Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged on my book shelf - waiting for my girlfriend to read them, as well as the third book of the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. There's also some book about some kid in Africa that I got for Christmas and still haven't read, a book about the philosophical history of European fairy tails I haven't read and two books about Catholicism and sex which I read, tried to return to the person I borrowed them from, but I guess I can keep them - so there you go... Finally - all six Star Wars movies - at the behest of my star wars loving new girlfriend... Pete
  20. I like all the pictures above my post. The Kshytiria is great - but I'm still going to hold out for a 1:100 Mastergrade ... the HG core fighter is beautifully painted...man would I like to do that to my stuff...maybe one day I'll find the time to learn how to paint models... the other Gundams are also neato. Pete (a bit plastered)
  21. Seeing as how the poll compelled me to vote for girls from each series - here's the what and why: SDFM: Misa - because she's hotter than Minmey, smarter than Minmey and more of a loyal woman than Minmey. Macross Plus - Lucy - because all the other girls are boring and only remotely hot. So, while it is true that Lucy is also boring, she's certainly amazingly hotter. Given this context - go for Lucy. Macross Zero - Sara - she's romantic, has an excellent religious and philosophical education, is an excellent political ruler and is amazingly hot. Macross Frontier - Ranka - for the "why" just see the ten million pages I've already written on mwf about why Ranka is great. and finally... Macross 7 - Milene .... This was actually not really much of a choice... I mean...who else is there to pick in Macross 7 beyond Mylene? Vefidas is not very feminine; though she certainly is wise - but that's not enough. Flower Girl, Sivil, even the Bridge Bunnies and Rex...none of them really get much character development - they're kind of one-dimmensional. In the end - what alternative is there to Mylene? I mean - who is the mature, stable female lead in this anime? Gamlin? Pete
  22. My heart will always belong to Misa Hayese :-) Pete
  23. My throat was cured by watching this episode - so... makes sense to me! :-) Pete
  24. I might get one to go with my Mastergrade Gundams - but I'd prefer it if Bandai got to work on a version 2.0 1:60 scale VF-25 that would have the same transformation and sculpt of the 1/72 model - particularly the swivel hinge on the legs - the DX is like Yamato's version 1 VF-1 in 1:60 scale... needs work. Pete
  25. Actually it makes perfect sense to me - I'll add a more serious attempt at understanding the M7 Chiba Science later - maybe tomorrow - when I wrote this review, my throat ached and I felt lousy - so I couldn't really think, just listen to the music and let it move my heart (and heal my throat ache) Pete
