It’s gonna be weird if the go to live action movie still remains the Dolph Lundgren version. It’s such a low bar, but if they can’t clear that, it will definitely be a waste of time Quote

I can’t remember much of it, i think it was a cg show. But she loved it so much when she was only a few years old that she made me buy her the toy of him and she took it everywhere. I remember her disliking the movie though. She always did like the less girly shows even when she was younger. Anyway, this does already look like they’re butchering He Man. Quote

I also didn't like the Max Steel reboot, it strayed too far from the original. I hope that in the next version, they bring back what made the previous one what it was. As for He-man, the behind-the-scenes photos aren't really convincing me to like him. OK, I know that the initial plot is that he "lost his memory" due to a plan by Skeletor, and was sent to an "Earth reality", leaving Teela to go and save him. I think that even the plot of the film canceled by Canon (which later became Van Damme's Cyborg) would have been much better. Quote
Thom Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Anyone else getting Thor-vibes? Super strong hero with mystical weapon (sword instead of hammer) comes to Earth and must regain his memories (powers)? He even has a run-in with a car too! Yeah, they really should have kept this on Eternia. Quote

To me, it looks too cartoony... I know, I know... I think they would have been better as smaller devices with the blade a bit narrower at their juncture. Quote

I guess with all the other stuff that bugs me in the photos, the sword is the only thing that’s trying here. I don’t mind it, as long as He Man somehow looks much larger when he uses it, it could work. Quote

Thom Posted May 13 Posted May 13 21 hours ago, pengbuzz said: Yeah; sounds like a cheat to use conventional locales instead of far flung exotic ones... >_> My thoughts too. It's cheaper to film in the 'real world,' but that can also cheapen the plot far too much. There was another fantasy movie done quite a while ago, He-Bro(?), I think, or something like that anyway, where that made it just fall flat. When I think of He-Man, I think of another world and fantastic settings, not, 'oh look, another hero comes to Earth again...' Quote

Honestly, I remember the cartoon in mostly desolate settings. I get the feeling that the animators were trying to save some cash as well and only occasionally had a forest or ocean setting. I think most of it could easily be filmed in the desert or maybe even an area with mountain settings. Then all you gotta worry about are the castle sets Quote

Just go film around Vasquez Rocks and do a matte painting of the castle in the distance. Done! Quote

Since they didn't have any more money from the budget for it. So much so that they tried to make it cheaper by using Earth as the location and very tight shots. But because of that, we were lucky (or not) to have Van Damme's Cyborg 🤣 Quote

Done! Pretty much. All they really need the studio for would be interiors for the castle or the palace or snake mountain. Other than that, there’s plenty of great locations outside of the city. And they wouldn’t even need to block traffic or anything Quote
