areaseven Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Man of Tai Chi is an upcoming Chinese/American martial arts film directed by and starring Keanu Reeves; this marks Reeves' directorial debut. The film also stars veteran martial arts stuntman Tiger Chen and Cantopop artist Karen Mok. Man of Tai Chi is scheduled to be released in China on July 5. U.S. and European release dates are unknown at this time.
badboy00z Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Interesting...kind of reminds me of Blood Sport and Mortal Kombat simply because of "Finish HIM!!!" lol
Ivan Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 This had literally zero substance... I am waiting to hear some Keanu Reeves jokes, or are they not funny anymore?

renegadeleader1 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I hate to admit this, but that trailer was no worse than 90% of the Van Damme, Norris, or Segal guilty pleasure films from the 80s-90s.
Duke Togo Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I hate to admit this, but that trailer was no worse than 90% of the Van Damme, Norris, or Segal guilty pleasure films from the 80s-90s. Guilty pleasure? Where was the pleasure?
karmajay Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 So, we need our Martial Arts films to have a deep and engaging story now...? Looks like a action packed martial arts flick to me.
raptormesh Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I think Mortal Kombat has a more coherent story than this. Either that or the trailer's just horribly done and sounds like a junior school lunchtime fanfic/scribble.
RD Blade Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I hate to admit this, but that trailer was no worse than 90% of the Van Damme, Norris, or Segal guilty pleasure films from the 80s-90s. I just bought Kickboxer on BluRay. "I wa...I want Tong Po!!!" still makes me nod in approval.
areaseven Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Just wondering, has Keanu Reeves ever played a villain before this movie?
RD Blade Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Just wondering, has Keanu Reeves ever played a villain before this movie? He played a serial killer in "The Watcher".
areaseven Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 He played a serial killer in "The Watcher". Just read a little about that. He claims he was forced into the role when someone forged his signature in the contract. Currently, it's his second-worst reviewed movie (10% on Rotten Tomatoes). So Keanu in a bad guy role proved to be disastrous the first time around, but it was supposedly not of his choice. On the other hand, Man of Tai Chi is his pet project, so maybe he'll actually be a decent villain here.
Ghost Train Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 At 1:50 it looked like he was about to shoot out a Hadouken at point blank range .
areaseven Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 71% - "It may not be groundbreaking, but Man of Tai Chi represents an agreeably old-fashioned picture for martial arts fans -- and a solid debut for first-time director Keanu Reeves." Metacritic Score: 53 out of 100
areaseven Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 "You owe me a life." Finally got to see this film a couple of nights ago. Yes, Keanu Reeves is still an overrated actor and yes, he's the weakest part of this film, but Man of Tai Chi is a surprisingly good martial arts movie. Beyond all the fights is a moral lesson of one man's fall from grace and his struggle to find his resolve. And despite a lot of wire-fu, the fights are well-choreographed. Here are a couple of fights from the film.
