TG Remix Posted December 7 Posted December 7 15 hours ago, Seto Kaiba said: I'm hoping they include some of the stuff from the lesser-covered games like M3... like the unconventional enemy mecha. I'm hoping too, since the cover on the middle left lists practically almost everything made from both VF-X games, the Ride, and 30. M3 is listed alongside Advanced Valkyrie, which makes some sense considering the VF-9 and VF-3000 came from that project, but the Variable Glaug and combiner mech is brand new from the game. A part of me wishes it didn't just limit itself to VFs and Destroids though, since that blocks off the conventional Zentradi mechs and others like the Gilgamesh. Looking into it for a bit, turns out it's being made by GA Graphic, the same people who's behind the Master File books...Which explains a bit of the preview pages. Turns out there's some in its Amazon listing, with particularly interesting paragraphs. There's old forgotten lore like the VF-2 being based on the VF-XX Zentran Valkyrie, and more interesting additions, like the VF-19EF/A specifically being a contender against the VF-31 for the next main variable fighter. An interesting one, considering the former is a 4th gen Valkyrie with VF-25 technology that's customized for Isamu to be close to the original prototype (Maybe it means for the Caliburn in general?) It also drops the VF-24 when talking about the VF-31 Armored Siegfried instead of the YF-24, which I don't think any other source does, and it states the YF-30 being a 6th generation prototype like the YF-29, which was the telltale sign for me that it was connected to the Master File books. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/481562674X Quote

Even Macross Chronicle mentions it. Probably because it's one of the very few details ever published about the VF-XX. 43 minutes ago, TG Remix said: [...] and more interesting additions, like the VF-19EF/A specifically being a contender against the VF-31 for the next main variable fighter. That's new... -ish. I think they may be riffing on a statement Masahiro Chiba made in Great Mechanics DX back in the Frontier era about how the NUNS toyed with the idea of doing an upgraded VF-19 with ISC as an anti-Vajra VF but ultimately opted to develop a new fighter for economic reasons. AFAIK, they've never actually tipped the VF-19 as a serious rival to any 5th Gen machine though. 43 minutes ago, TG Remix said: It also drops the VF-24 when talking about the VF-31 Armored Siegfried instead of the YF-24, which I don't think any other source does, I think Master File is the only other book to expressly acknowledge the VF-24. 43 minutes ago, TG Remix said: [...] and it states the YF-30 being a 6th generation prototype like the YF-29, which was the telltale sign for me that it was connected to the Master File books. Not necessarily. After all, the first statements that the YF-29 and YF-30 had been retconned into 6th Gen prototypes came from the Macross Delta TV series Blu-ray extra features that used such as a way to justify classifying the Siegfrieds as Gen 5.5 machines. Still... sounds like this book will be very much worth the cost of importing two or three copies. At least, for my purposes. Edited December 7 by Seto Kaiba Quote

I guess if the VF-31 was a solution to the Brisingr Globular Cluster's budget being what it is, it could make sense if a ISC equipped VF-19 was to replace their VF-171 stock before the Kairos was realized as a better viable option to sell locally. Does kind of make me wonder what would a production 6th Gen VF be in that case, since those two are the closest things the franchise has to Gundam tier superweapons. Wish I had that money too, it's been quite some time since we got anything like a dedicated lorebook for this franchise. Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted December 8 Posted December 8 I'll answer the tech-y bits in a more appropriate thread. 7 minutes ago, TG Remix said: Wish I had that money too, it's been quite some time since we got anything like a dedicated lorebook for this franchise. How much lore this book'll dispense is unclear right now... it seems to be light on text, so I wouldn't expect too much. Certainly not a lot in terms of new detail that we haven't got from existing sources already. Quote
Big s Posted Monday at 07:06 AM Posted Monday at 07:06 AM Saw this one up for preorder at hobby search, sounds pretty cool and would love the translations since the description says it gets into the design process for those classic kits which were in many cases were way ahead of their time Quote

Just hoping my translator works, cause I’m really interested in the process from back in the pre computer days for sci fi kits, especially at the high level of cool with those Imai kits Quote
